Mailbox Monday 5/29/17

Mailbox Monday  is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” ~Joseph Campbell

Happy Memorial Day. I haven’t done a Mailbox Monday post since last year? What?! It is a rainy Monday here and how nice to be at home relaxing enjoying an extra day off. I wish I could always have Mondays off from work, more reading and crocheting time. 🙂
Here are my latest book acquisitions…

FullSizeRender (5)
I purchased an e-copy of A Night to Surrender (Spindle Cove 1) by Tessa Dare. I’ve read two books in this series and I enjoy this author’s work so I am looking forward to this one.

Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the bookish, the shy, the heartbroken or misunderstood. It’s a haven for young women who don’t quite fit in.

Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this village but spinsters and sheep. But he has orders to gather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch–a woman who is determined to save her ladies’ refuge from the invasion of Bram’s makeshift army.

The last thing either of them expects is a powerful attraction. Much less explosive passion…

texas
An ARC of Knight on the Texas Plains (Texas Heroes book 1) arrived via Sourcebooks Casablanca as part of a book tour for August. I couldn’t resist reading about a hero named Duel McClain….

He’ll do whatever it takes
To keep them safe

Duel McClain has lost everything he’s ever loved: his wife, his son, his sense of self. But when a strange twist of fate—and a poker game he’ll never forget—leaves an innocent little girl in his care, Duel vows to defend his new family to his very last breath. If only he knew a single thing about taking care of babies…

Just as Duel swears his life can’t get any more complicated, a beautiful woman stumbles into the light of his campfire, desperate for help. Jessie Foltry is hungry, tired, and running for her life. She agrees to help Duel care for the child in exchange for his protection, even as she fights to guard her broken heart….

almond
An Almond for a Parrot by Wray Delaney arrived via Amazon Vine.

‘I would like to make myself the heroine of this story – an innocent victim led astray. But alas sir, I would be lying…’

London, 1756: In Newgate prison, Tully Truegood awaits trial. Her fate hanging in the balance, she tells her life-story. It’s a tale that takes her from skivvy in the back streets of London, to conjuror’s assistant, to celebrated courtesan at her stepmother’s Fairy House, the notorious house of ill-repute where decadent excess is a must…

light
The Light We Lost also arrived via Amazon Vine.

Lucy is faced with a life-altering choice. But before she can make her decision, she must start her story—their story—at the very beginning.

Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated—perhaps they’ll find life’s meaning in each other. But then Gabe becomes a photojournalist assigned to the Middle East and Lucy pursues a career in New York. What follows is a thirteen-year journey of dreams, desires, jealousies, betrayals, and, ultimately, of love. Was it fate that brought them together? Is it choice that has kept them away? Their journey takes Lucy and Gabe continents apart, but never out of each other’s hearts.

That wraps up my mailbox for now. Happy Monday, happy reading….what books have arrived at your doorstep recently?

  1. Hi Naida,

It has been a very wet and changeable Monday here too – chucking it down with rain one minute then brilliant sunshine the next – Not much consolation for all the outdoor events places had planned for the Bank Holiday weekend!

I quite like the sound of ‘An Almond For A Parrot’, although I couldn’t make up my mind whether I preferred your cover version or this alternative ..

.. I think that mine is slightly more intriguing?

Thanks for sharing, you have some lovely new books to enjoy 🙂

  2. It is nice to have this extra day off. We just got home from seeing the West Coast Thunder ride through our neighborhood. Mouse calls it the “motorcycle parade”, which I suppose it is. This is their seventeenth year. I hope you are enjoying your day!

All of your new books sound good. I hope you enjoy them all!

  3. An Almond for a Parrot sounds paticularlly interesting. There is something about New Gate Prison. It has been the setting of some great fiction over the years.

Happy reading all your new books!

  5. That Tessa Dare book sounds like fun! I can’t remember if I’ve read any of hers before but sounds like it would be a great for summer reading. And, I’m with you, wouldn’t it be great to have three day weekends all the time 🙂
