Mailbox Monday 8/28/17: The Little Library by the Lake

Mailbox Monday  is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Happy Monday everyone, well, almost Monday here. I’m posting this a few hours early. I still can’t believe the end of August is here. I love this time of year though, as the season is beginning to change and cooler mornings and evenings feel nice.
I found a cozy little library on our family vacation at the lake last month within walking distance of our cabin community and I’ve been meaning to post about it. I stopped in to visit one morning, they allow non-state residents to borrow books for the week with picture i.d. and they have free wi-fi and offer you cookies and coffee and tea. Then the kindest librarian brought out a box of ARC’s for sale and told me to help myself. I’m not making this up, it really happened. There’s also a little gazebo nestled outside where you can sit and read outside if you prefer. You can see some of the gazebo if you look through the window in the picture below.

These are the books I bought that morning. It’s the best deal I’ve seen all year, the librarian gave me all three for just $2.00. She told me the library regularly gets ARC’s but they are not allowed to shelve them with the regular library books so they sell them.

–A God in the Shed  by J. F. Dubeau  ARC that came out on June 13 2017. This one sounds like a nice suspenseful small town thriller with a little bit of supernatural horror mixed in. “Though if an out-of-towner stopped in, they would notice one unusual thing―a cemetery far too large and much too full for such a small town, lined with the victims of the Saint-Ferdinand Killer, who has eluded police for nearly two decades. It’s not until after Inspector Stephen Crowley finally catches the killer that the town discovers even darker forces are at play. ” 

–The Postmistress  by Sarah Blake, a hardcover copy which I’ve had my eye on for some time. “The Postmistress is a tale of two worlds-one shattered by violence, the other willfully naïve-and of two women whose job is to deliver the news, yet who find themselves unable to do so. Through their eyes, and the eyes of everyday people caught in history’s tide, it examines how stories are told, and how the fact of war is borne even through everyday life.”

–The Missing    by C. L. Taylor ARC due out November 2017. I can’t wait to dive into this one. “Combining an unreliable narrator and fast-paced storytelling, The Missing is a chilling novel of psychological suspense that will thoroughly captivate and obsess readers.”

They also have a fireplace, how nice is that.
