Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 1/28/18 Books, crochet etc.

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Good morning all, I hope you are enjoying your weekend. It’s a rainy Sunday morning here. After another hectic week at work, I have spent most of my weekend relaxing at home. We’ve been working in the middle of construction at the office building since the end of last year and were temporary relocated to another area while they renovated our department for a few months, so working in between departments has been stressful to say the least. You don’t fully unpack your things and you’re often looking for stuff you need and trying to remember what box you put what in etc. We finally moved our things over to our newly renovated area on Friday so on Monday I’ll finally be back at my own cubicle. Sigh of relief. Everything is nice and new so that’s good too. I can stand up now and work that way if I want to, my desk rises with the touch of a button.

Onto books….

One Book in my Mailbox This Past Week:

In the mail this week is a Goodreads win, The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer.
I look forward to reading it and it is nice because The Ten-Year Nap by this author was one of the first books I received in the mail for review many years ago when I began my first book blog. I still have alot of those old review books on my shelves.

“From the New York Times-bestselling author of The Interestings, an electric, multilayered novel about ambition, power, friendship, and mentorship, and the romantic ideals we all follow deep into adulthood, not just about who we want to be with, but who we want to be.”

Finished Reading This Past Week:
spin
Spinster: Making a Life of One’s Own by Kate Bolick. My review will be up this week, it was a good one and I like the pretty cover.

Currently Reading:
sur
Survive the Night (Rocky Mountain K9 Unit) by Katie Ruggle. It is good so far, it is part of a series but I was able to jump right in without having read the others. I’m trying to finish this one up this month so it will make 4 books read for January.

Reviewed:
ocean
I posted my thoughts on The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, which was a wonderful read and I really enjoyed the magical, yet scary aspects of the storyline.

Crocheting:
I finished up a ripple blanket a few weeks ago and finally took pics. Otis always claims the crocheted blankets around here. He is currently sitting on my lap as I type this post up, he is good company.

That wraps it up for now, oh and I had a frozen margarita this past week at my favorite Mexican restaurant. With chicken quesadillas but I forgot to take pics of the food, it was so good though. Sour cream and guac. Hmmmmm. I already want to go back.

  1. I love Meg Wolitzer’s books, so The Female Persuasion is on my list. I also love the look of Spinster.

    Yum, great looking margarita!

I also loved the crocheted pieces. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  2. Wow. That blanket is amazing! I get bored halfway through knitting a scarf! I couldn’t imagine all the hours and days that were put into that, but it looks really good. I actually read Survive the Night last week and I loved it. Otto’s quiet and caring characters and all those animals… he was just too adorable!

  3. We just got home from doing door to door sells of Girl Scout cookies (my least favorite way to sell–and I think my daughter’s too). It’s so hot out already. Nearly 80, which doesn’t sound bad, but under the sun, it gets hot fast. I wish we had some of your rain. Any excuse to stay inside. LOL I am glad you will be settling into your new office space soon!

  4. Mexican food sounds awesome, yum. And I’ve seen Meg Wolitzer’s books I think, the Interestings sounds really familiar for some reason…

    • Hi Mary, I know the basic knit stitches, but whenever I’d try to knit I just kept wanting to get back to my crochet. Maybe I’ll try again one day.
      Happy weekend!

  8. I am so a margarita kind of gal! I used to buy Williams-Sonoma’s margarita mix which is my mum and I’s favorite mix. Great job on your ripple blanket which has zippy colors. Your dog is cute with its long fur.

  9. I do love those Goodreads wins and although I really don’t need any more books to add to my ever growing piles, it is always so satisfying to have them arrive in my mailbox. These days I am quite strict with myself though and I only ever enter the competition for a book I really want to read, which is quite difficult, as I will actually read just about anything and everything!

Whilst probably not one for me, I love the cover of ‘Spinster’, somehow very 1970s looking!

Your crochet just gets more and more adventurous and lovely to look at. Do you keep all those lovely throws for yourself and just change them around to suit your mood, or do you make them as gifts for friends and family?

A well deserved margarita after such a busy week is just what the doctor ordered and hopefully it set you up for the first week in your new office, as I am guessing there must have been one or two teething problems?

    Happy Reading 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, satisfying is the right word for book mail! There is something special about it. Thank you, I really like making the blankets. I’ve given a few away to family and am thinking of re-opening my ETSY shop and maybe listing a few. I have so much yarn! Might as well use it up.
The new office setup has been running pretty well, and I am happily settled into my new renovated location. Construction is still going on around us but I plug my earbuds in and get to work so it hasn’t been too distracting.
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for catching up and tweeting my links!
