Top Ten Tuesday 2/6/2018: Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest and I Still Haven’t Read

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

February 6: Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest and I Still Haven’t Read

I could be here all day. I have so many books on my TBR mountain. I am notorious for holding onto books that I hope to finally read one day. It is so book hoarding. It was hard to narrow this list to just 10 books. Some in this picture aren’t mentioned below and a few are e-books.

1. Dark Lover: The First Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward
I purchased this one at the height of the popularity for this series and now I feel like the last one left that hasn’t read it. It’ll be a paranormal romance classic by the time I get to it. Then I will have to read the rest of the books in the series so it is an endless cycle.

2. The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss.
I just had to buy this classic and I still have yet to read it. Mind you, I had to have it. I remember having to have it on my Nook. That was at least 6 years ago.

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is a classic that I never make time for. I don’t know why. I actually have two copies of this one on my shelves because I purchased a second copy when I forgot that I already had one. That means I really want to read it right?

4. Six of the Christina Lauren Beautiful series books arrived back in 2013 from the publisher and I never took the time to read them. I never requested them, but back then I was book blog reviewing on a regular basis and the book mail from the publishers was oh so yummy. I miss those days but I don’t miss the stressing out over getting all the reviews done on time. I need to read these, I think I’d enjoy them. The covers and titles are great. I feel like I need to binge read these.

5. One Hundred Years of Solitude has been on my TBR mountain for years. I have a love/hate relationship with Márquez and I purchased this one several years ago. I only read Márquez during the hot summer months. I don’t know why. I think it’s because I read Cholera and a few of this other books during the summertime on vacation.

6. Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates has been on my TBR mountain since the last film version came out in 2008. So why haven’t I read it yet? Maybe because I watched the film version already.

7. I swore up and down that I was going to read High Fidelity by Nick Hornby the same week I bought it several years ago. It has been sitting on my shelves since. Maybe I will read it for Dewey’s next 24 hour read-a-thon in April.

8. I keep meaning to read World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks every Fall and I never do. Another one I bought back in 2013 when the film was released. I think seeing the film already is what has put me off to this one. I might have to donate it to the library. Brad Pitt immediately comes to mind when I look at this book.

9. I don’t know why I haven’t read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier yet. I have both print and e-book versions and I know I will like it when I get to it.

10. I’ve had Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen on my shelves for a very long time and I never think to myself “Oh, I will read Sense and Sensibility next”. I need to get to this one.

Well, that rounds up my list. Have you read any of these? What books make your list?

  1. I sympathize with your plight. I have books laying around the house for over ten years that I still kind of plan to read. It is so much easier to obtain a book then to read it. The good news is that I have occasionally read a book that I had sitting around for over a decade.

    • Hi Brian, I know you understand. It is definitely easier to get a book than to actually read it. Plus I tend to be impulsive when it comes to books, I have to have them sometimes. That’s good you are reading through your TBR pile, I’ve been doing that since late last year with my review books and I have been making a little bit of a dent.
      Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I think you have some amazing reads ahead of you but I totally understand this. I have shelf sitters that have languished on my shelves now for 10-15 years. Yikes. One day right?

  3. Naida,

Many of us can relate to this post: so many books, and not enough time to read them all! You have some good choices on this list. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, just read them when you can.

  4. I think High Fidelity would be interesting, and Revolutionary Road too. I remember when that mvoie came out, but I never did get around to seeing it…

  5. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of my favourite books, I really hope you`ll get to it. Although I love the classics, I always struggle with Victorian literature. Hopefully, I`ll read “Jane Eyre” this year because I have been putting it off forever. Good luck with your reading!

    • I need to read One Hundred Years of Solitude one day and Jane Eyre too. I sometimes struggle with the classics but they are satisfying reads. Enjoy your weekend!

  6. I too, wouldn’t really know where to start when someone poses a question like this. Like Brian, I have had books knocking around the place for donkeys years and just occasionally I will take it in my head to read one of them, but that’s generally just to make room for another new book!

I too, am getting quite bogged down with Blog Tour posts, especially this month, when a generally considerate publisher, has really swamped me with titles. I sometimes wonder if they actually register that many of the bloggers they rely on do have day jobs and for most posting is a hobby done late at night or early in the morning.

I have to get toughter with them if I am going to survive and actually have time to read a book in peace and for my own enjoyment.

You really must read ‘Rebecca’, I just know you will enjoy it! – If you can get your hands on a copy of the film, that would be even better, but for me personally, I recommend reading the book first!

Speak Soon and Happy Reading 🙂

    • I know, I have had books sitting around here for years and years. I never heard that expression before “donkey years” lol. I hope you get caught up, I know how time consuming the blog tour posts can get. Especially with “real life” things to get done first. I used to blog early mornings before work, no more! I just mainly get online on weekends and take care of everything that way.

Yes, get tougher and just say no. So you can read your own books.
      Enjoy your weekend Yvonne.

  7. I only read the first book of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series; I had liked it. I didn’t like the Beautiful Bastard book; it wasn’t realistic for me. I’ve listened to audio versions of Jane Austen’s books; they were entertaining; Pride and Prejudice is my favorite. I read a modern version of Sense and Sensibility – Jane of Austin: A Novel of Sweet Tea and Sensibility by Hilary Manton Lodge; I liked it. I didn’t like one of the recent retellings of P&P. I listened to an audio version of Jane Eyre; it was interesting. The retelling version: Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye was a good one.

    • I really wanted to get into the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and bought that first book, but I don’t know if I will read it. Then it’s another series to commit to. That’s too bad Beautiful Bastard felt unrealistic, I just finished a contemporary romance that was unrealistic too. I love P&P too. Thanks for stopping in and your comments!

  9. What a great list! Some of these I have read and others I want to read. Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorite novels. And I really enjoyed World War Z. I need to make time to read Sense and Sensibility and High Fidelity.
