Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 2/25/18: Books, Crochet and A Few Hot Book Covers

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday everyone. This is the last Sunday in February, this month flew by so quickly. I don’t mind that, bring on the Spring! Typical Jersey weather, we had a snowstorm last weekend and then by Wednesday the temps were up in the 70’s which was so nice. Now it’s been a quiet, rainy weekend. I took these pictures last weekend on the day it snowed. It was such a pretty snowfall on a Saturday and the sun was shining bright. We took a drive out early afternoon and I got these shots.

I haven’t gotten as much reading time in this past week as I would have liked to but that’s okay. I will try to read more this upcoming week. Work is to blame, I’ve had to learn a new computer program since being chosen as part of a team project for the next several weeks and then working late nights has had me too tired to read when I get home. I also hit a reading slump in the middle of a thriller so I re-read Nights in Rodanthe, which helped me out of it. I have been crocheting alot though and watching the last of the Olympics in the evenings.

Onto my mailbox which contains some smoldering book covers this week. I am definitely on a romance kick lately.

In My Mailbox:

I was bad and look at what I got from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley.

My Lady Captor by Hannah Howell.
I like the sound of this one because she is the one holding him hostage…
“New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell pens a sweeping romance set against the breathtaking Scottish Highlands, where a young woman holding a warrior hostage tries to resist his passionate seduction. . .”

Caught Up in a Cowboy (Cowboys of Creedence) by Jennie Marts. THIS is how you do a cowboy cover IMO. This is part of a book tour for Sourcebooks Casablanca. My review will be up on April 17th.
“Rockford James was raised as a tried and true cowboy in a town crazy about ice hockey. Rock is as hot on the ice as he is on a horse, and the NHL snapped him up. Now, injuries have permanently benched him. Body and pride wounded, he returns to his hometown ranch to find that a lot has changed. The one thing that hasn’t? His feelings for high school sweetheart and girl-next-door Quinn Rivers.”

Thirsty: An Eastside Brewery Novel by Mia Hopkins
After reading the blurb, I just had to. I am hoping to find Spanish phrases and dialogue thrown in here.
“A gangster hiding from his past. A single mom fighting for her future. Can she show this bad boy the man he’s meant to be?
My name is Salvador Rosas. Back in the barrio, my past is written on the walls: ESHB. Short for East Side Hollenbeck, my father’s gang—my gang. Hell, it’s a family tradition, one that sent both my brothers away. They used to call me “Ghost” because I haunted people’s dreams. Now I’ve got nothing going for me except a hipster gringo mentoring me in a new career. An ex-con making craft beer? No mames.”

Last week I purchased A Precious Jewel (Stapleton-Downes Book 2).
As soon as I saw the blurb I was interest in this one and I have been wanting to read more from Mary Balogh after I read one of her Christmas romances. I have high hopes for this one.
“New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh weaves a sensuous spell of romance that brings together the unlikeliest pair of lovers in the unlikeliest place of all– an infamous London house of pleasure.

I’m in the middle of Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase which I purchased a while back. It is a good one and I am loving the back and forth between the strong heroine and the dark and moody hero. I am aiming to finish this one this month so I can start fresh for March reading.

Reviewed Last Week:
nights
I re-read Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks last week which was wonderful the second time around. So good. Re-reading an old favorite doesn’t disappoint.

Crocheting:
I’m still working on my neon colored pooled blanket and I am just about done with it. I also submitted two patterns to the Crochet Pattern a Day Calendar which has published my patterns on and off since 2008. The folks over there are so nice, I submitted a cowl pattern and this coaster pattern for the 2019 calendar. I am trying to get one more pattern submitted, I had an idea for wine bottle cozy. For every pattern you submit that gets published you receive a free calendar. There have been years I’ve gotten four calendars in the mail so I give them out to friends and family.

That covers my updates for this week. I hope you all have a good weekend, what are you up to?

  2. I love your snow pics, although I’m definitely ready for spring. We had those same crazy temps here in Virginia. 40 one day, almost 80 degrees the next.

Looks like you got a lot of great books from Netgalley this week. Hope you enjoy them all!

  3. I have a small stack of books to re-read on my nightstand…and now I’ll consider them for my reading slumps. I agree that an old favorite can jumpstart the reading mojo.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  5. That is so cool about the crocheting calendar. I actually want to knit scarves and Santa hats for wine bottles as stocking stuffers for friends next year. I love the idea of a wine cozy.

  6. Hi Naida,

Winter hasn’t done with us here in the UK yet either. Temperatures are due to fall to about -15 with the wind chill, making it colder than either Norway, Russia or the Arctic. Snow is going to be dry, drifting and in blizzards of up to 7″ – and that’s just here in the south of the country, which is known for its temperate climate!

I hope that things don’t get too bad around the airports though, as my youngest niece and her partner are due to fly out on February 28th to New York for a week’s break, to celebrate his birthday. She has visited before and being super holiday orgainised, their itinerary is all worked out and all the discount tickets purchased, so bad weather delaying or cancelling would be a real blow for them.

Maybe I should borrow some of your hot and steamy reading to keep me warm 🙂

It is so good that you have your crochet patterns out there in print, it must give you such a buzz. Now you know how the authors of some of the books we read must feel when their books are accepted by a publisher – Good for you!

    Have a great week 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, I have seen posts on social media about the snow over by you. I hope it isn’t too bad and that your niece was able to fly out to NYC. We’ve had rain and snow here since about midnight.
Hot and steamy reads are always good for staying indoors on snow days lol.

It is nice having my patterns published, it feels special.Thank you and enjoy your Friday!

  7. Oh Naida I hope your photographs get chosen. Love your crochet work and think it would be perfect for a calendar. What a nice way to be recognized for your talent! Hope all those romance novels help you get over your reading slump. I know I’ve turned to them at times to get out of a reading rut! Hope you have a great week and hopefully you find a bit more time to read amidst all that work!

  11. Great snow photos. I will be happy for Spring too, but these months go too quickly.

Beautiful crocheting. I have no talent in that area.

CONGRATS on your crochet patterns being submitted and accepted. That is great.

Those definitely are smoldering covers. 🙂

    Have a wonderful week.

  12. Good luck with your pattern submissions. I like your mailbox house. Many of us have locked mailboxes here because there was a string of mail thefts around our neighborhood niche.

    • Thank you, that’s awful about the mail theft! That’s not my mailbox though lol…it’s the mailbox near a historic park/museum we sometimes drive through.
      Happy weekend!

  13. How I wish we’ve snow here! Our weather’s been hot and humid again after December is over. I miss the cooling weather and it seems like we’ve to wait until October (the earliest) before we’ve those weather again. Hope you enjoy your books, Naida!
