Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 3/18/18: New Books in the Mail While I Wait for Spring

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello all, I almost didn’t have time to do my updates post this weekend but then I made the time. It is blogging tradition and I really like chatting about my week and hearing about what you are all up to also so thanks for stopping in.

It has been another hectic work week for me and it snowed a few mornings too. Just a few inches but enough to have me up earlier and cleaning my car off. I put in a 6 day workweek with late nights, 52 hours this week so the OT is a nice perk at least. Also, they feed us and cater lunch a few days a week. I’m part of a team of employees that was chosen for a project throughout the month of March and it has been interesting meeting new people and learning a different skill set. We even got a St. Patrick’s Day get together with wine, beer and good food on Friday after work so that was really nice too. The Irish Soda bread was so good! I cannot complain. It is nice to be appreciated.

Onto bookish things….

In My Mailbox:

IMG_7539
In Places Hidden (Golden Gate Secrets) by Tracie Peterson arrived for review via Bethany House. Isn’t the cover gorgeous? I am really happy to have been accepted into the Bethany House reviewer program and I can’t wait to read this one soon.
And I treated myself to a printed copy of Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks because I want to re-read it. Maybe next month. I had a few dollars left on my Amazon gift card from Christmas and I couldn’t resist grabbing a copy along with a few hair products I like to order online. The best part about online shopping is not leaving my couch.

On The Blog This Week:

sweta (291x450)
I finished up Louisiana Catch by Sweta Vikram this past week and my review post will be up this Thursday as part of a book tour.

Reading Next:

I honestly do not know what to read next. Definitely In Places Hidden but aside from that I’m not in any rush for reviews since I still have time on my other review copies. I might start watching something on Netflix or Prime and crochet as well in the next few days. I also almost want to re-read a King book in the upcoming weeks, a shorter one. I have been eyeballing my well worn copy of Pet Sematary, so maybe.

Crocheting:
I finished up my neon stripes pooled blanket and will share pics next week.

Last but not least, here is Otis being Otis. I wonder what he would say if he could speak. That about wraps it up for now, enjoy your Sunday and what are you up to?

  1. Hi Naida,

It has been a rather strange and unsettling week here too.

My FIL is in hospital with an infection and as he also has quite advenced dimentia, they are treating him with an end of life care package. Upsetting enough for all the family, until we hear today that he has made something of a rally, making us all feel rather bad at agreeing to the treatment plan – Stil you can only put your faith in the health professionals and hope tha they have got it right!

A huge snowfall last night has made it a stay indoors Sunday and we are just hoping that the forcast big freeze tonight, doesn’t happen.

It seems as though everyone I talk to lately, has been really stretched at work, although the fact that you get OT payments is a good bonus which we don’t all enjoy. I love Irish soda bread and if you ever get the chance, try Welsh lava bread as that is delicious. Let’s face it, I just love bread, although I try to steer clear of it as much as possible, as it is so bad for you.

Finally, my most terrible piece of news. My laptop has been one of the many PC’s which has died whilst trying to install the latest ‘windows’ update and once I power it down, that will probably be it! If that is the case, I shall still try and post reviews via ipad, to Amazon, NetGalley and Goodreads, but the blog will probably have to be consigned to its grave. I will let you know by email if the latter is the case, unless of course you hear anything on the news about a mad woman trying to get her hands on a member of the Microsoft management! 🙂

Your new book has been getting some excellent ratings and reviews, so I hope that you enjoy it 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, I am very sorry to hear about your FIL. It is so hard when loved ones are ill like that. My grandma had dementia and I know how devastating that is for the family as well as for the person suffering it. I am keeping you in my thoughts.

Weatherwise, I hope it’s warmed up by you. We are expecting a snowstorm again early tomorrow, the usual delays have been announced but I’m hoping we just get another snow day and not have to go out in it at all. The snow from the last storm hasn’t fully melted.

I hope you get your computer problems fixed! What a pain. Yes, keep me updated when you can!

Take care and enjoy your week 🙂

  2. Mmmm, those food pics are making me hungry 🙂

I hear you on those 6 day work weeks. I’m doing those right now too and am just so tired, especially since the one day off I have is spent running around doing all of the chores and errands I didn’t have time to do the other 6 days.

That’s great that you’re caught up on your review books and have a breather to read whatever you want to read. I love weeks like that.

  3. I can relate to that 52-hour work week, but at least they’re feeding you and paying you well! I’m facing one of those myself, beginning right after choir rehearsal this evening. I’m trying to catch up with my freelance projects. (I don’t get any overtime, though… one of the few drawbacks of self-employment.) Enjoy your new book, and I look forward to seeing pictures of your blanket!

  4. I love soda bread. I make it every year for St. Patrick’s day and every year I say that I will make it more often… and then never do. LoL
I can’t wait to see your blanket next week! I’ve been working on a baby blanket for a couple weeks now and it’s only now starting to look like a scarf. Thankfully, I have three more months until I need to give the blanket to my cousin.

  6. Otis is a cutie. I like the cover of In Places Hidden. I like it when I don’t see the faces of who is supposed to represent the main character. Imagination is the best. I love it when professional development provides food! I miss those days, LOL.

    • Yep! I know, it’s been extra hours weekdays and working a Saturday that brought it to that number. Funny enough though, it all went by fast looking back on it.
      Happy reading too!

  8. Congratulations on becoming a Bethany House reviewer.

I also love shopping from home. Amazon is such s great site. I tell everyone who asks for gift ideas that Amazon gift cards are a good choice.

I also wonder what animals would say if they could talk.

    • Thanks Brian, I was happy when I saw I was approved for the Bethany House review program.
Totally agree, Amazon gift cards are the best gift. And I wonder what animals would say. I feel like Otis wants to start talking sometimes lol. They communicate in other ways which is very neat though, to see their intelligence that way.
      Enjoy your week.

I have enjoyed a number of Tracie Peterson titles and that is a nice cover.
Hope you find another book to dive into after that. I’m staying busy with Take Control TBR books this month.

  12. It does sound like you’ve been busy! The project you mentioned at work sounds interesting–the part about working with new people. Your night out on Friday sounds especially fun. 🙂 I have been training the new supervisor this week. He seems nice and I think he will work out well. Although I have a feeling he will want to move on in another year or two. He’s young and ambitious.I love the cover of In Hidden Places! I look forward to your review of Louisiana Catch . I have only read one of her poetry collections and was really moved by it. Otis is soooo adorable. I love it when you share pictures of him with us. 🙂 I hope you are having a great week, Naida!

    • Hi Wendy. I’ve been so busy but now it’s dying down so I am glad it’s about over at work with the extra hours. Training new people is challenging, that’s good he is ambitious. I’m sure you are doing a great job!
