Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 4/29/18: The Beach, Crochet, Books etc.

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy rainy Sunday everyone, the last one in April. This month flew right on by. I took an unscheduled mini-blog break these past two weeks. I had the regular every day stuff going on so I didn’t get much blogging time but I will be playing catch up today and blog-hopping. I want to see what everyone is up to. My skin allergies are better, no more shiny Vaseline face lol, so thank you for your comments and advice on that. I did get some good reading in these two weeks and we took a day trip down the shore last weekend which was really nice.

Yesterday I participated in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon  and I read up to the 79% mark of Earl Interrupted (The Daring Marriages #2) by Amanda Forester on my Nook. I want to finish that up today so it will make 3 books read for April, which is great for me since last year in April I didn’t read one single book.

Onto my mailbox:
dishcover
Dishcloths to Crochet: Fun Designs to Brighten Your Kitchen! came via Dover/NetGalley and I am excited to whip up a dishcloth using one of these vintage patterns. I have to look through my yarn stash, I need red and blue cotton yarn for the one I want to make.

Previously on the blog:

For National Poetry Month I shared two favorite poems from Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Anne Sexton.

Coming Soon:

I will have 3 book reviews to write up! First of all, Oh. My. God. The Pisces by Melissa Broder was fantastic and shocking and weird. Has anyone read this one?

Also coming soon are my thoughts on In Places Hidden (Golden Gate Secrets) by Tracie Peterson which I finished last week and Earl Interrupted (The Daring Marriages) by Amanda Forester which I aim aiming to finish today.

Crochet:
I am still working on my aunt’s blanket, it is coming along nicely. I am itching to start a new project, but NO, I have to finish the blanket first. I keep seeing so much crochet inspiration online like this and this , pretty cardigans and shrugs, but I will start that next.

Those are my updates, I will close with pics of our shore trip last weekend. It was such a nice day, especially since the 1 1/2 hour drive down there was easy with no traffic. The boardwalk and beach were nice and quiet since it is still the off-season but the shops and places to eat were all open.

My youngest walking along the sand. It was breezy and sunny and we brought our blankets along to wrap ourselves up with.

Chocolates from a favorite shop on the boardwalk. How cute are these chocolate heels especially with Mother’s Day around the corner?

I love the caramel apples from this place.

That wraps it up for now. Enjoy your week. What are you reading? Doing?

  1. Congratulations on finishing the Readathon. I also am finishing about three books a month lately. I am not reading nearly as much as I want to but I also am terribly busy and I do read some long books.

    • Thanks Brian, three books a month is good and as you mention, if they are long, it’s like two or even three books in one sometimes. I know, sometimes it is hard to find any reading time at all.

  2. That blanket is turning out so well! I can’t wait to see it when you are finished. I know what you mean about wanting to start something else. I’ve been knitting a basic baby blanket for my cousin for over a month now… and it still looks like a scarf.

    • Thank you 🙂 I know, I usually have a few projects going on at once but then it will take me forever to finish any of them so I try to stick to one.
      Enjoy your knitting!

  3. I had to check out ‘The Pisces’, as that cover was so intriguing – Definitely not what I was expecting! – I’ll say no more until your review goes up!

It has been a very cold, damp and miserable Sunday here also, although we used up vouchers which were a Christmas gift from family and enjoyed a champagne high tea, on board one of the many reconditioned steam trains to be found around this part of the world. The train journey itself was quite short, however the food was amazing, the service excellent and if the sun had shone down on us just a little, it would have been perfect. In fact, one of those choclate shoes would have been the perfect end to the day 🙂

The crochet work s looking as good as ever, I am sure it will bring a tear to your aunt’s eye when she sees it.

    Have a good week 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, oh my gosh that book. I loved it.
I hope it warms up a little over there. That high tea on the train sounds wonderful! Good food too is a bonus.
      Enjoy your weekend too 🙂

  4. Glad to hear your allergies are getting better. Dealing with those is never any fun.

Your crochet blanket is looking so amazing, and I can’t wait to see what you end up making from the dishcloths book. The ones on the cover are so cute!

Hope you have a great week!

  6. I haven’t read that Pisces book but I’m intrigued! And, those yummy shoes – too fun! Looks like a fun trip to the shore and I’m sure you needed that after your crazy work schedule. I missed out on the readathon this time but there’s always the next one!

  7. I love the book of crocheted dish cloths! I can’t wait to see what you crochet. The blanket for your aunt is stunning. I hope you’ve had a good week, Naida. It’s nearly Friday! 🙂

  8. I am glad to hear your skin allergies are under control now. I really hate allergies of any kind. 😦 I am glad to hear you liked Pisces. That cover is quite something. Such beautiful photos! It looks like you had a lovely trip. Our trips as of late are to the dance studio and back for rehearsals. LOL I wish I could say that meant more reading time for me, but the other parents and I get to talking all too often . . . Look at those chocolate shoes! I hope you are well and have a great week!
