Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 5/27/18: Books, Flowers, Brad Pitt, Etc.

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Good morning everyone and Happy Memorial Day. It is a 3 day weekend here in the U.S. and the unofficial start of summer and it is really needed. Yesterday was gorgeous out and the temps were in the upper 80’s. I headed out early to meet with my girlfriend for a walk at the gardens I like to visit near home so that was a nice way to start my Saturday. It is very picturesque there and I am lucky to live close by enough that I can drive out there often.

The rest of yesterday was spent tidying up the yard and my the garden and I re-potted a few of my houseplants that sorely needed it. I love this time of year and spending time outside in my yard is therapeutic, I find it very relaxing. I spend alot of my free time during the summer lounging out there on a lawn chair in the shade either reading or crocheting. Hubby is usually out there with me as well and we use the grill often during the summer. I forgot to take a pic, but my son’s friend brought her Pug over yesterday afternoon and he is so cute and funny. Otis was not impressed …lol. He was not interested in having puppy company but the 2-year-old Pug, Rocco, was just hanging out wanting belly rubs and being amusing. Their little scrunched up Pug faces are very cute. I’ll have to remember to snap a pic next time they visit.

Book-wise, I am still immersed in Needful Things this week and have been enjoying taking my book outside lately.

I finally got my daughter to watch Interview with the Vampire this week, which I think is wonderful in every single way. She is not a Brad Pitt fan and so far we watched Legends of the Fall and Fight Club which are both fav Brad Pitt films of mine but she didn’t like those. She thought Interview was good, but still doesn’t like Brad Pitt. She did however really like Meet Joe Black when we watched it a few months ago. She believes that every actor’s true personality can be seen in all the movies they make if you look closely. And she says Brad seems like a jerk in real life. Maybe she is onto something….lol. It does make sense, although I could watch Brad Pitt movies all day long and be one happy camper.

Onto my mailbox:

The Body in the Ballroom: An Alice Roosevelt Mystery arrived via PICT. It sounds very good, I’m looking forward to reading it as part of a book tour in late July.
“President Teddy Roosevelt’s daring daughter, Alice, leaps into action to exonerate a friend accused of poisoning a man just about everyone hated.”

Technically not in my mailbox, but my girlfriend gifted me two Stephen King paperbacks to add to my shelves The Mist and Thinner. They are older used copies but in good condition and I happily added them to my King collection. I enjoyed the film and tv mini-series versions of these two books but haven’t read either yet.

That wraps up my weekly updates. Hopefully I will have a review post up this week. I am very slow with my blogging during the summer especially but I will do some blog hopping today and see what everyone has been up to. Thanks for stopping in and for your comments! I always enjoy reading them. Have a great week 🙂

  1. Gorgeous blooms! I do love the idea of gardening, but I’m allergic to almost everything outside. I do plan to clean my patio today, though, and clip back the greenery.

Your books look good, especially the Alice Roosevelt mystery. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

    • I like working in the garden and during the warm months, its relaxing. I know allergies are such a pain. And I have a few bug bites from this weekend and have been using witch hazel on them. Enjoy your weekend and happy reading!

  2. It is poring rain here on Long Island. I am still enjoying the day. We had nice weather yesterday, I got some yard work done.

I read Thinner a long time ago. I remember liking it a lot. I have not read The Mist. I really liked the movie.

  3. Oooh that Interview gif got me! I love Interview with the Vampire, the movie, the book, the whole Vampire chronicles, loved 90s Brad (and on and off since)… so thanks for that. Going to re-read for gardening tips; I may have killed a plant this week (will see) lol

    • I love Interview with the Vampire too, I read the first two books in the series and need to revisit them one day. 90’s Brad is life. I hope your plant is ok. Happy reading 🙂

  4. Your garden is lovely. How I would love to have one but the dirt here is bad. I’m used to the rich soil from my many years in Iowa and Minnesota. I did lots of veggie and flower gardening there. But I am renting where I am plus the yard is mostly dirt and pine needles, a little moss and a few weeds. I miss having my own tomatoes or snow peas or zucchini or peppers fresh from the yard.Plus the fresh herbs. But it was only half the year.I could do some planters here and bring them inside in the winter, but I’m too lazy these days. I’d rather go to the farmer’s market. Enjoy your books! • Thank you, those white flowers are not in my garden but it’s a local park. Growing fresh veggies is wonderful, I used to do zucchini and tomatoes also.I know what you mean, there is just never enough time. I need to grow those again.
      Enjoy your week also 🙂

  5. A walk in the garden is the best isn’t it? Hope you’ve been enjoying the holiday weekend. I’ve spent a bit of time with my books and we also went to a State park for some hiking but oh boy, too hot already in Texas! 🙂

  6. A very hot and sticky May Bank Holiday weekend here, with some spectacular lightning storms and flash flooding in various parts of the country.

Visiting gardens is a very therapeutic way to while away a few hours and this weekend is always reknowned for being the time to catch the azaleas and rhododendrons at their best. Hydrangeas don’t bloom here until the autumn.

Our own garden is a little like a bomb site right now, although hubbie chooses to call it a ‘work in progress’. We had major renovations done about 20 years ago now, so things are starting to look a little tired and in need of some regeneration. Unfortunately, he likes to have several areas under construction at the same time, whilst I am of the mind to begin and complete one section at a time! I guess that after almost 40 years, we are never going to agree now 🙂

Just about every other blog I have visited seems to have featured a Stephen King book, he is obviously one very popular author!

Have a good week and Happy Reading 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, wow, the lightning storms must have been nice to see though, the flooding isn’t good. Yes, visiting gardens is wonderful. I’ve been working on my own a little at a time. There is always something else that needs to be done and never enough time. Renovations are so nice when everything is finished and you can enjoy the view!
      Enjoy your weekend too 🙂

  7. The flowers are so gorgeous, Naida! I like to be outside, too, gardening and reading, when the weather’s nice. We haven’t grilled anything outside here in a while, but we will, soon. Oddly, it has been warmer back east then in Cali recently. We’ve had a very pleasant long weekend. I’m glad that you’re enjoying Needful Things. Have a great week ahead!

  8. Those flowers are gorgeous! What a beautiful garden. I read The Mist years ago and barely remember it, but I think I enjoyed it? I love the look of those older paperbacks. Have a good week and happy reading!

  9. I’m not a huge Brad Pitt fan but Fight Club and Interview with the Vampire are two of my favourite movies of all time lol

I feel like with the rise of social media and gossip sites, that we know way too much about celebrities these days. Plenty seem like total douchebags tbh, but unless they’ve done something awful in real life, I’m happy to ignore it 😛

I hope you had a wonderful week 🙂

    • Those movies are two of my favorites too 🙂
I know what you mean, social media gives us a peek into their daily lives and into their personalities a little bit. Who knows, so much can be fabricated on there anyway,
      Enjoy your weekend!

  10. The photos of the flowers in the garden are beautiful 🙂

I think I read Thinner years ago and don’t think it’s one of King’s better novels, but I look forward to hearing what you think about it.

I laughed at the Brad Pitt comments your daughter made. I haven’t seen many of his movies – but I did watch Interview with the Vampire in high school (I remember the Kirsten Dunst character best from that one – so sad and creepy, and a good performance from her).
