Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 9/2/18: Hello September

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

September has arrived so fast it seems and I am not ready to say goodbye to summer yet. Labor Day is here in the U.S. already and it’s nice to have a long 3 day weekend. I really love lazy summer days and quiet summer evenings, I have more energy during this time of year. Well, it’s not quite over just yet so I will definitely be hanging onto summer as long as I can. I enjoy the Fall season too but there is something special about the summer months.

One thing I am dreading about September being here is my morning work commute on Tuesday since schools are back in so I’m back to my 45+ minute drive due to traffic jams. During the off school months it’s just a 20 minute drive. *sigh* I am going to have to start listening to audio books in my car in the mornings, I need to download the app and hook it up to my bluetooth.

Onto my mailbox…

The Guilty Dead arrived via Meryl Moss Media. This is part of a series and I’m hoping it does well as a stand-alone. I’ve read alot of thrillers this summer.

“In 2003, P.J. TRACY, the pseudonym of mother-daughter writing team P. J. and Traci Lambrecht, released their first thriller, Monkeewrench, which became an instant hit with readers. The duo crafted seven additional novels featuring Grace MacBride, founder of Monkeewrench Software and chief computer genius, and her motley crew. Two years ago, Patricia Lambrecht passed away leaving many fans wondering if Traci would continue writing this popular series.”

On the blog:

I posted my thoughts on An EveryDay Thing by Nancy Richardson recently. It was a nice set of poems.

Coming soon:
needful
My thoughts on my re-read of Needful Things by Stephen King will be up soon. I started re-reading this one in May and have been on and off again with it in between other books. This has really been my summer long read.

Reading now: Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks

message
Here I go again with the re-reading, but I couldn’t help myself and this seemed like the perfect end of summer read. It’s a quick and easy read. Theresa has found the first message and has published it in her column already….

“Thrown to the waves, and to fate, the bottle could have ended up anywhere. Instead, it is found just three weeks after it begins its journey. Theresa Osborne, divorced and the mother of a twelve-year-old son, discovers it during a seaside vacation from her job as a Boston newspaper columnist. Inside is a letter that opens with, “My Dearest Catherine, I miss you my darling, as I always do, but today is particularly hard because the ocean has been singing to me, and the song is that of our life together…” For Garrett, the message is the only way he knows to express his undying love for a woman he has lost. For Theresa, wary of romance since her husband shattered her trust, the message raises questions that intrigue her. Challenged by the mystery, and driven to find Garrett by emotions she does not fully understand, Theresa begins a search that takes her to a sunlit coastal town and an unexpected confrontation…”

Watching:

My daughter and I have been on a Pride & Prejudice kick lately so we watched the 2005 film and are halfway through the BBC version. She thinks the BBC Darcy is best. I don’t know, I like them both. I am just happy she is finally watching P&P with me.

I’ll close with pictures of a sunflower field we visited recently, it was a nice day trip. They are my second favorite flowers next to my favorite pink roses.

  1. I am actually sorry that summer is akmost ended, but I admit that fall has its charms. I also have a long commute so I also have to deal with back to school traffic.

I am looking forward to your thoughts on Needful Things. I need to catch up on some King books that I never read.

  2. Your sunflower pics are so gorgeous! And I love that your daughter is watching P&P with you. I can’t remember if I’ve watched the 2005 movie yet, but I did love the miniseries version that aired on A&E years ago.

I hope you enjoy your 3-day weekend!

  3. September did seem to come upon us fast, didn’t it? I hope you are enjoying the long weekend. It hasn’t been a particularly productive one for me, but I am enjoying it. 🙂 I hope you enjoy the PJ Tracy book! I enjoyed the earlier books in the series quite a bit. I agree with your daughter about the best Mr. Darcy. 🙂 I love sunflowers too. Such pretty photos! Thank you for sharing, Naida. Have a great week!

  4. Here in the UK, we had a long holiday weekend last week, although unfortunately after so many weeks of blazing heat, holiday plans were ruined by rain and cold conditions. This week and for the forseeable future though, we are back to summer conditions and certainly today has been shorts and t shirt weather.

I’m afraid I have to disagree with your daughter about the best Mr. Darcy, The picture you feature of the film version Mr. Darcy is Matthew Macfadyen, who also starred in the BBC drama ‘Spooks’, which is one of my all time favourites, as he is just so dishy and suave … Ah! If only I was 15 years younger 🙂

The schools are all due back here from tomorrow, so like yourself, my commute time changes dramatically, although I do try to leave earlier, as I would rather get to work a little early, than sit in the extra trafiic jams.

‘The Guilty Dead’ looks really good, so i hope that you enjoy it and Happy Reading 🙂

    • Hello Yvonne, I hope the rains have let up a little by you. We’ve had so much rain here lately too. I totally agree that Matthew Macfadyen is handsome, I liked him in Ripper Street which I used to watch on the BBC channel.
I hope the traffic hasn’t been too bad for you. Have a good week, I’m trying to play catch up on blogland as usual this morning a little bit. xo

  5. Those sunflowers are gorgeous! Enjoy the last summer weekend, and I hope your Tuesday morning commute isn’t as bad as you fear.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and I remember loving Message in a Bottle. The movie was great, too.

  6. Those are great photos of the sunflower field. I love that your daughter is watching P&P with you. I need to rewatch the movie which I had brought on Prime and give the BBC series another chance.

  7. Naida,

I love your sunflower photos! I wish there was a quicker way for you to commute to work during the school year. I lok forward to your post about Needful Things. Have a great week ahead!

  8. I love sunflowers. There a festival in PA for them. Loved going this year. I’m not ready for September to be here. I hope you daughter loves P&P. Mine is not ready for that yet. I love MacFadyen as Darcy best. Firth looks too constipated in some of his scenes…

    • I have grown sunflowers a few summers, different varieties and yes it is such a battle with the squirrels and birds! One year I planted like 12 of them out in the yard, only 2 survived! The rest were chopped right off and eaten at the tops. Very frustrating but its so worth it when they make it and grow tall.
      Have a great week!
