Good morning and happy Saturday. Another week has come and gone and I meant to log on and post a list of my favorite scary books and get my review of Rebecca typed up but the time slipped away from me. Hopefully this upcoming week I can get some blogging time in.

24

Also, today is Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon for October. *yay*

Today I will be reading Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill:

heart

“Aging, self-absorbed rock star Judas Coyne has a thing for the macabre — his collection includes sketches from infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy, a trepanned skull from the 16th century, a used hangman’s noose, Aleister Crowley’s childhood chessboard, etc. — so when his assistant tells him about a ghost for sale on an online auction site, he immediately puts in a bid and purchases it.

The black, heart-shaped box that Coyne receives in the mail not only contains the suit of a dead man but also his vengeance-obsessed spirit… “

Heart Shaped Box is actually a re-read for me, but what made me pick it up again is I enjoyed it when I first read it in 2007. I don’t remember too much about the story so I want to re-visit it and I think the read-a-thon is the perfect time for that. One day to revisit a scary book.

I’ll be popping in and out today updating this post. Are you participating? What are you reading?

updates:

I finished up Heart-Shaped Box around midnight last night. It was the perfect book for the read-a-thon because it was fast paced and really creepy. I am glad I re-read it. I had forgotten much of the plot so it was nice to revisit it.

 Closing Survey
1. Which hour was most daunting for you? I read my book on and off for most of the day and I think around 6pm-ish I started to get distracted. I ended up watching two episodes of The Haunted on Netflix and picked up my crochet for a little bit before getting back to reading.
2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read! 1 book read, Heart-Shaped Box, which is my usual for this event.
3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners? Something fun and fast paced. I’ve read historical romance in the past for this event and that has worked well too.

  1. Good luck and have fun with the Read – a thon. One of these days I will participate in one of these. Heart – Shaped Box sounds interesting. I tend to like stories that revolve around rock music.

  2. I’m trying to finish up two, brutal fantasies. While they’re not Halloweenish, they sure keep me in suspense as I cringe at all the danger present and think about what could happen.
