Hello blog friends and happy Sunday. Oh my gosh, December is flying by. Christmas is coming soon and as always life is busy and hectic but I am trying not to get overwhelmed. It is cold by me, so very cold. It makes me want to stay inside as much as I can. I did some online Christmas shopping on Cyber Monday so that was good and the rest I’m doing at the mall one night this week. As of yesterday my tree is up and it smells so nice and piney. I enjoy relaxing in the living room and looking at the tree this time of year. Do you do the same?

I haven’t holiday baked yet but soon I hope. I like to make sugar cookies using this recipe but the mood hasn’t stricken yet.
Aside from that I’ve been doing alot of crocheting and watching scary ghost documentaries on tv as per my usual. I will watch the occasional Hallmark Christmas movie here and there too.

Also, I’ve been blasting Queen music on my morning commute more often than not lately. By the way this gif also represents how I act when I finish crocheting a blanket and show it off to friends and family.

Finally I have some reviews ready. I LOVED Dark Places. As much as you can love a dark, twisted and sad story. I’ve scheduled my review to go live this upcoming Tuesday and my thoughts on Heart Shaped Box are scheduled to post this Friday.

  5. Love Christmas trees/decs, ours doesn’t go up til 12 days before and down 12 days after. I have read the Gillian Flynn and Joe Hill books. And guess what, I am trying to learn crochet, got a wee starter pack but trying to learn from the tutorials. It took me all morning to make a chain of 8, I am not very good. Do you have to learn all the basics before trying to make something? I think I need to buy a book xxx

    • Hi Lainy, yay for crochet! Have fun! Practice makes perfect.
      I’d recommend knowing the basics first yes, at least the starting chain and how to turn your rows.
      Neat about the 12 days before and down 12 days after tradition. Merry Christmas 🙂

  6. Your tree is so sparkly! We just got ours up, and I love it when the house smells like pine. We only have lights though, because we like to make our own decorations every year. It’s fun and the kids enjoy seeing their creations on the tree.

    We’ve actually don’t a lot of baking this month and I look forward to many more cookies!

  7. It is also cold here on Long Island. I used to enjoy the cold but now I am starting to dislike it. I am looking forward to reading what you think of Heart Shaped Box.

    • I dislike the cold myself, it is too much. Heart Shaped Box was a re-read and I finally got my review ready for this Friday.

  10. I love your tree – nice and traditional. The shops have been manic over here, although the stores don’t seem to be carrying quite so much stock this year, so places are selling out of things quite early. I guess the biggest battle, that of the Christmas grocery shop, is just about all there is left now and that is sure to be the usual free for all!

    I love the crochet book and the lemon wool you are currently working, with the help of Otis of course!

    I already have ‘Mind Games’ on my radar and with the amazing ratings and reviews the book has been attracting, we should both be in for a treat when we get to read it, which I see you are doing now, so I shall look forward to your review.

    • Thank you Yvonne, I prefer the real ones and we had a nice time picking this one out and setting it up. I feel like with online shopping the stores would be less crazy, but they do get pretty crowded especially the closer it gets to Christmas.
      My daughter came home with that yellow yarn a few weeks ago and asked me to make her a scarf so it’s done already. Otis enjoys cuddling up in crochet himself.

  12. December has gotten away from me. It is speeding by! I am so behind on everything it feels like. We only just decorated for the holidays today–we haven’t had time before now. I think most of my Christmas shopping is done except for a handful of gift cards I need to get for my daughter’s dance teachers and school teacher. I think then I’ll be officially done. I hope. Dead as a Door Knocker sounds like it will be fun. I look forward to reading your thoughts on Dark Places. I have been wanting to read that one. I have read Hill’s book and am anxious to hear what you thought of that one as well. I hope you have a wonderful week, Naida!

    • Hi Wendy, I know time goes too fast especially during holidays. Dark Places was dark yet I really enjoyed it, very engrossing. The Joe Hill was a re-read and also very good.

  19. It looks like you have some great books. I’ll be interested to hear if you like Mind Games, that is a kind of book I often like. Do you try some of the patterns when you review a craft book? I’ve reviewed a few recipe books where I tried some of the recipes. I did get a knitting book which I didn’t try the patterns but I read them through to see if I would actually make them or not.     • Thanks Anne. I am enjoying Mind Games alot.

      And yes, I tend to make something with the patterns from the review books so I can share that in my review. This time around I don’t think I will be doing that due to time constraints but this pattern book is really stunning. I read through the patterns as well to see if they are easy to read, etc.

    • I haven’t baked yet either, but maybe this week. I wanted to bring something into work also and I was thinking either apple cake or sugar cookies which are the two things I can bake that come out yummy every time lol.

  22. What a wonderful tree you had put up. From what I read I assume it was a fresh one? How lovely it must have been for the pine smell to fill up your living room. How festive it must have felt.
