The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….
Happy Sunday all. Why is it so cold out? Yikes. And that wind. These long winter months are so bleh. I can’t wait till the Spring arrives. For now I’ll keep wearing my extra puffy winter coat, which reaches down to my shins and has a big fur lined hat and is pretty much as close as I can get to leaving the house wrapped in my comforter.
Onto bookish things….
Recently on the blog:
I posted my thoughts on Mind Games, which was fantastic.
Coming soon:
This Wednesday my thoughts on Immortal Hunger will be up.
In my Mailbox:
Guess what e-book I downloaded? Free with Prime. I’m pretty sure I’m reading this next since I just finished Immortal Hunger. I’m scared already though.
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
“When originally published in 1971, The Exorcist became not only a bestselling literary phenomenon, but one of the most frightening and controversial novels ever written.”
Also in my mailbox via Prime:
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
“Brilliantly inventive, Wicked offers us a radical new evaluation of one of the most feared and hated characters in all of literature: the much maligned Wicked Witch of the West who, as Maguire tells us, wasn’t nearly as Wicked as we imagined.”
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory
“Armed with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre, Caitlin Doughty took a job at a crematory and turned morbid curiosity into her life’s work. She cared for bodies of every color, shape, and affliction, and became an intrepid explorer in the world of the dead. In this best-selling memoir, brimming with gallows humor and vivid characters, she marvels at the gruesome history of undertaking and relates her unique coming-of-age story with bold curiosity and mordant wit.”
Watching:
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on NetFlix. Based on the Archie comic book series, this show is so good. I am pleasantly surprised.
And last but not least, we had margaritas and Mexican food last weekend at a favorite spot. Hmmmm. I like my margaritas frozen with salt on the rim.
Enjoy your week. What are you up to?

Brr, stay warm over there! I just looked at my library and they have Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. Sounds like an interesting non fiction. And, you are braver than I am… I don’t think I could read The Exorcist! Keep us posted!

I am also looking forward to spring. Or is 29 degrees Fahrenheit here in Long Island. When I think about it I realittfar is not that cold for this time of year. But it feels very cold.
The Exorcist is a book that I always thought about reading. I think that I would like it.
That Margarita looks so good. I am drinking an orange- cranberry martini right now!

I have never read ‘The Exorcist’, the original film was bad enough. I used to lap up books from the horror genre, but my reading habits have definitely changed over the years and now I wouldn’t be in too much of a rush to add it to my list.
I stopped by and checked out your review of ‘Mind Games’, as I was really quite sad to have to decide that this probably isn’t one for my list, as there are just so many great books waiting to be read that may be more for me!
Likewise, I have never read the book of ‘Wicked’, although I have seen the London West End stage show a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it, so Happy Reading!
The weather here hasn’t really been too cold considering it is only January, but it is just so grey and overcast that it makes me feel more miserable than I should be. I am saying that with all my fingers crossed though, as it is forecast to get quite cold over the course of the next few days and there is a small possibility of some sleety snow, although hopefully that will stay up north, where they are much more used to it 🙂
Stay warm and enjoy your reading this week, that’s if you can see the words after a few of those margarita’s 🙂

Hi Yvonne, I breezed through The Exorcist, I will have my thoughts up this week. It was terrifying but also really well written.
I enjoyed Mind Games but I do know some would be put off by the religious aspect of it, I don’t mind it so long as it’s not overboard. And Bethany publishers specializes in the Christian fiction. I was curious to read a serial killer mystery with a twist of faith.
I’ve wanted to see Wicked on Broadway, I’m sure you enjoyed seeing it on stage.
Stay warm and hopefully the sun comes out. I don’t like this cold weather either. Happy reading!

It’s been cold here too (although maybe not as cold as where you are). We’re expecting a week of rain–so my goal is to stay dry. I would like to read The Exorcist one of these days. I really enjoyed Wicked and hope you will too. Doughty’s book sounds fascinating. I hope you have a good week, Naida, and stay warm as best you can!

I won’t rub it in too much but it’s hot, hot, hot here. I can’t read horror books I wouldn’t be able to sleep for weeks. I do remember when The Exorcist was at the movies, after 5 minutes I closed my eyes and had them closed through the whole movie.

Ugh the cold. I hate to think about it because it will be around for a few more months in my area. Seeing The Exorcist takes me back. I read it while in HS – back in the 70s. Scared the heck out of me.
