The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….
Happy Sunday all. Another busy week has come and gone. We had flurries a few days this week but tonight we are expecting more snowfall, could be up to 8 inches. I feel like this always happens in March. It will start later this afternoon and continue through the whole night into the early morning so I’ve got my fingers crossed for a snow day tomorrow.
Also of note this past week, we went ax throwing with a group of friends and that was alot of fun. I want to go back again. I had beginner’s luck and got a bullseye on my first throw.
Onto my updates…..
Recently on the blog:
Last week I posted my thoughts on Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty which was morbidly interesting and funny as well.
Up Next:
My reading has been slow lately and I fully blame work. Most days my eyes are too tired from the computer strain to be able to read in the evenings. I’ve been doing most of my reading on the weekends. I am still in the middle of The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld #1) .
And I finally started reading My Lady Captor by Hannah Howell. This one came through NetGalley. I like the updated cover and the pink sky. And, I like that the heroine has taken him hostage instead of the other way around but I realized I’m not a fan of reading the Scottish accents.
==============================
In My Mailbox:
Far Side of the Sea by Kate Breslin arrived via Bethany House for an April review. Look at that gorgeous cover. I will be reading this one this month.
“In spring 1918, Lieutenant Colin Mabry, a British soldier working with MI8 after suffering injuries on the front, receives a message by carrier pigeon. It is from Jewel Reyer, the woman he once loved and who saved his life–a woman he believed to be dead. Traveling to France to answer her urgent summons, he desperately hopes this mission will ease his guilt and restore the courage he lost on the battlefield.
Colin is stunned, however, to discover the message came from Jewel’s half sister, Johanna. Johanna, who works at a dovecote for French Army Intelligence, found Jewel’s diary and believes her sister is alive in the custody of a German agent…”
Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine was free with AmazonPrime membership. It sounds really good since the main character’s husband is a serial killer.
“Gina Royal is the definition of average—a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband’s secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor—the ultimate warrior mom.
With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband’s crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace….”

I’ve been having eye strain issues due to the screen I think, as well; it sucks.
Didn’t know axe throwing was a thing. You live and learn.
The Stillhouse cover is eerie (I like).

I also have been too tired to read much at night. I have found this to be a source of frustration.
We expecting the same snow here on Long Island. I hope that we will get less then predicted as I will likely need to venture out no matter what.
Ax throwing sounds like a very cool thing to do! Congratulations on your Bulls Eye!

Hi Brian, it is definitely frustrating being too tired to read. Ugh with the snow already. We didn’t get a full snowday, just a delayed opening and I don’t like to drive in it.
Ax throwing was very fun, I want to do it again.
Enjoy your week and stay warm!

Stay safe and warm with all that snow! I hope you get your snow day tomorrow. Ax throwing sounds like so much fun! I wonder if there’s anything like that around here . . . I ended up ordering a copy of Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty after reading your review. It sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you are enjoying The Darkest Night. I want to read that one. I really want to read Stillhouse Lake! I have enjoyed other books by Rachel Caine before. It’s been a relatively quiet weekend for us. Our last one before the busy-ness of rehearsals start up again. Mouse finished up a report for school and will be presenting it tomorrow if all goes well. I hope you have a great week, Naida!

lol about the Scottish accent! I know, I’ve read this genre before and it never bothered me, now for some reason it’s pulling me out of the story a little bit.

Hi Naida,
I have never heard of axe throwing before, but when I checked it out, it seems that it is also a well established sport over here too. Although to be honest, we are so flooded with knife crime and attacks right now, that anything involving sharp objects probably isn’t going to be top of my list of things to do!
‘Far Side Of the Sea’ and ‘Stillhouse Lake’ both sound really good to me, however I was a little concerned when I checked them out, to discover that there are now three books in the ‘Stillhouse Lake’ series, with each story seemingly following on one from the other. I shall be interested to know if they can therefore be read as stand alone stories, or if they need to be read as a series in sequence, which wouldn’t be for me!
I love the colour of the wool you are working now, as so beautifully modelled by Otis! Hopefully you will allow us to see the finished item, as I am interested to see how the randomness of the colour changes works out.
Thanks for another amazing look into your week, I always enjoy your Sunday catch-up posts.
Happy Reading 🙂

Ax throwing was alot of fun and it seems pretty popular. yes, I saw Stillhouse Lake is part of a series, but it’s the first one so I don’t mind.
The wool is a pretty coral ombre, I love it. I’m actually working on the second sleeve today, it’s a sweater I’m making and so far, the fit is perfect so I’m proud of myself since I worked it up freehand and jotted down the pattern as I went along. Hopefully I’ll post pics next Sunday updates.
Enjoy your week, I enjoy sharing the weekly updates and seeing what everyone else is doing too.

I would love to try throwing an axe at a target! It seems like a fun thing to do! Nice job getting a bullseye. You did get it on camera, right? Proof for eternity! Also, are you crocheting? It’s been ages since I’ve made something (too busy juggling other things), but I love to crochet while I listen to audiobooks. It keeps my hands and ears happy.

I love the detail you put into all the books and combining it with your personal life, too. (I have zero desire to throw axes! But I sure love watching my hubby chop wood in our cul de sac. it’s like L.A. meets a cute woodsman!) Anyway, I’ll be back! Thanks for posting and best with the snow.
