Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 3/10/19: Books, Crochet etc.

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday everyone. The day is already breezing by since we lost the hour to Daylight Savings but that is fine by me since that means Spring is closer. It has still been very cold here, especially in the mornings in the single digits and last week we had a small snow storm, but no snow day.

The cold dreary weather is draining and March is always a long month. I want sunshine and warmth. I know it is coming soon. This weekend the temps went up into the high 40’s so that was better and we are supposed to reach 60 this Friday.

Onto my updates….

Currently Reading:

darkestmy

I am so slow with my reading this month, I am pretty much in a slump. I am still in the middle of  The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld #1)  and My Lady Captor. Hopefully I will finish at least one of them this week because I have been reading these two books for way too long.

In My Mailbox:

secret
One Little Secret: A Novel came via AmazonVine.
“Everyone has a secret. For some, it’s worth dying to protect. For others, it’s worth killing.

The glass beach house was supposed to be the getaway that Susan needed. Eager to help her transplanted family set down roots in their new town—and desperate for some kid-free conversation—she invites her new neighbors to join in on a week-long sublet with her and her workaholic husband.

Over the course of the first evening, liquor loosens inhibitions and lips. The three couples begin picking up on the others’ marital tensions and work frustrations, as well as revealing their own. But someone says too much. And the next morning one of the women is discovered dead on the private beach.….”

summer

One Summer in Paris also came via AmazonVine.

“To celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, Grace has planned the surprise of a lifetime for her husband—a romantic getaway to Paris. But she never expected he’d have a surprise of his own: he wants a divorce. Reeling from the shock but refusing to be broken, a devastated Grace makes the bold decision to go to Paris alone.

Audrey, a young woman from London, has left behind a heartache of her own when she arrives in Paris. A job in a bookshop is her ticket to freedom, but with no money and no knowledge of the French language, suddenly a summer spent wandering the cobbled streets alone seems much more likely…until she meets Grace, and everything changes.…”

Last week I posted a pic of my current crochet project, a sweater for myself. I’ve made more progress and am working on the second arm today actually. I didn’t follow any set pattern, just Pinterest and Instagram for visual inspiration and I jotted down my own instructions as I went along. The color looks more pink in these photos, but the yarn is actually a coral ombre color. I want to finish it soon so I can wear it. I purposely chose the bright yarn for Spring. I will post finished pics when it is complete.

That wraps up my weekly updates. What is going on with you? Reading? Crafting? Watching? Have a nice week!

  1. Your GIFs are funny. That is a pretty pink yarn for Easter. I bought some Loops & Threads Joy DK from Michael’s for a charity drive. I’m waiting for the arrival of my US 5 circular needles (24″ each) so I can get to work.

  2. Our weather has been horrible, too. We have had rain, rain, and more rain and we are so over it. I like the longer days but it’ll take me a week to adjust to the new time. One Little Secret looks good.

  3. Gale force winds and hail storms today, but thankfully we don’t lose our daylight saving hour until Sunday March 31st, which also happens to be Mother’s Day here!

I am looking forward to seeing your finished sweater, which looks as though it will be just the job for those cool spring evenings. I haven’t so much as picked up a crochet hook or knitting needle in the last month and I am seriously considering getting rid of some of my huge stash of wool, as I can see it never getting used up!

I have seriously over-committed to blog tour schedules, reviews and book promotions again, even though I had decided to set myself some strict deadlines. I’m still not quite sure how I am going to juggle everything to get it all finished on time, so I can see some very late nights coming on!

I too like the sound of ‘One Little Secret’, which would definitely be a little light relief after the chunkster ‘Scottish Noir’ thriller I am reading and thoroughly enjoying, right now. My reading is almost always in pretty much a vegetative state, with just a couple of snatched half hour breaks a couple of times a day. I just keep looking longingly at my TBR pile, as I rush by on the way to do my next task!

Thanks for sharing and try not to overdo things at work.

    Happy Reading 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, Spring is finally here so I am happy about that. I’m still working on the sweater, the sleeves have been the toughest part. I know, unused wool can accumulate, like books lol.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend, I can relate to over-committing to blog tours. It always seems like a good idea in the moment lol.
Enjoy your books and have a nice week!

  4. I also have been reading at too slow a pace. In my case it is lack of reading time. The Lost hour is not good, but I am happy that it will be getting dark later.

One Little Secret sounds like it has anvil intriguing premise. I would be curious to read what you will think of it.

    • Hi Brian, there’s never enough time for it all. I am glad that Spring is here though.
I’m looking forward to reading One Little Secret . Enjoy your Sunday and happy reading 🙂

  5. “I’m tired as shit” lolol that cracked me up. 🙂 Yeah I need spring. It warmed up here too, a bit- 30’s- but it’s been super windy and then we head freezing rain. Yay!

    One Little secret sounds awesome.

    • Ugh lol I have been tired as shit but at least Spring is here and I have more energy, the sun is shining and the weather is warming up some.

  6. I like how you incorporate both the books and your yarn projects. It is like talking to a friend. I also love the idea of affiliate links but I don’t do that yet. Maybe one day when I upgrade my site. For me, right now, just blogging every day is a victory. (But I love that you do once/week. Seems very manageable that way… especially with the book reviews, etc.) Anyway, talk soon!

    • Thank you 🙂 I need to update my site actually, but I haven’t made the time yet. Yes, blogging itself is a little victory, and such a nice way to unwind. I like typing up the review and updates posts, it’s a creative outlet in itself. And the updates posts are a nice way to refer back, sometimes I’ll refer to my updates posts to see what reviews are due etc.
Enjoy your week and thanks for stopping in. Happy reading and blogging!

  11. One Little Secret sounds good. I’m attracted to any book with secret in the title. I love the colour of your wool. I’ve been slowly knitting a cardigan for my granddaughter. I’ve made it a size bigger because it takes me so long to finish a project.

  12. I love the sweater color. I hope you get to wear it before it gets too warm. My reading is slow also! I’ve read a few poetry books, some kids books with my daughter (but that’s required by school homework), and a couple audio books. I’m hoping my March arcs will jumpstart my fiction reading again.

    • Thanks Serena, I wanted something bright. I know, March has been a slow reading month for me but I’m trying to get focused. Enjoy reading with your daughter and have a nice week!

  13. Sunshine is here in my part of the world. We are expecting a warm weekend, which I know my daughter will be happy about. 🙂 We have a big weekend planned too, so it’ll be a busy one! My reading is slow this month too. 😦 I hope it picks up. The Darkest Night interests me. I hope you are enjoying it! Your new books look good as well. Mouse and I are thinking of taking on a blanket project. We can’t knit of crotchet, but the Blanket EZ seem simple enough to put together. I think we could probably do that together. I hope you have a great weekend!

    • Hi Wendy, enjoy the sunshine. Aw, how fun. Have fun with the blanket, I saw that and it looks like interesting yarn. There’s also the ‘loop it’ yarn by RedHeart, where you pull through the loops with your fingers.
Enjoy your week and happy reading and crafting with the little one:)

  14. While last week was up/down, this week was finally more normal 60-7- with sun. Except today it rained (Friday) but that’s ok. Next week is 55-60 with sun. I think I’m tired as shit when it is dark and cold, so most of the time in winter. It’s better now with the sun. I’m knitting if you saw my Sunday post, but while listening to audiobooks. I do hope to Netflix tomorrow for the first time in probably 8-9 months?

And my daughter and I have been going to a quilting group every Wed night, so yes to crafting. I’m also reading lots.

I love seeing photos of your project. I hope you have a great weekend!
