Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 3/24/19: Spring is Here, Books and Updates

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello all. Ahhh…Spring is finally here. We still have chilly mornings and frost on my windshield but the weather has been getting a little bit milder as the day goes on and March is on its way out. We are supposed to reach the 60’s a few days this upcoming week.

I took an inadvertent blog break these past two weeks (shocker) but I’m playing catch up today. I am afraid to look in my Yahoo mailbox because well, last I checked it said 155 unread emails so then I just closed up the email app and went on about my day lol.

Work has been hectic like always and I had to put in a few extra early a.m. hours to avoid working late evenings. And we finally finished up sprucing up my youngest’s bedroom last week which turned out nicely. She’s got a renovated closet with shelving, a new bed and dresser and a fresh coat of paint, she chose cornflower blue. We hired someone for the closet and new paint but we put together the bed-frame and dresser from IKEA. By “we put together the bed-frame and dresser from IKEA” I mean my husband put these things together while I watched and handed him tools because that part of my brain, the assembling things while following instructions part, simply does not work. It’s a flaw that I have to live with. However, I was there for moral support and that’s just as important. 🙂

Onto my bookish updates….

Reading: I finished re-reading  The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld #1)  so my review will be up soon.

gone
I somehow started reading Gone Girl last week, even though I have review books to get to but I don’t regret it one bit. I love reading Gillian Flynn and I am enjoying this one. I’m more than halfway finished.

Up next: I have April reviews coming for Far Side of the Sea and The Disgraceful Lord Gray by Virginia Heath .

In My Mailbox:
I recently received books with beautiful covers again.
The Woman in the Lake, Lost Roses and If, Then arrived via Amazon Vine. The Poet: Recusant arrived via Meryl Moss Media.

Watching: We recently watched Triple Frontier and Jurassic World  which were good, especially Jurassic World.  I still need to watch A Star Is Born, somehow I know I will love it.

Crochet:
I am still working on my Coral Ombre Spring sweater. I actually made two separate sleeves for it last week and after sewing them on, I realized I didn’t like them and I took them off and unraveled the yarn, so it was back to the drawing board. I started over attaching the sleeves directly onto the sweater and am liking this much better. I’m going to give the sweater a quarter length sleeve then see what it will look like with ribbing for the trim. I also want to give the neckline ribbing too. Then I will be done! I will wear my Spring sweater and pour myself a glass of wine to celebrate it. This is the first sweater I crochet for myself.

That wraps up my updates for now, thank you for stopping in. What are you doing? Reading? Watching?

  1. Oh, those inboxes do fill up so quickly! Good luck.

I loved Gone Girl, and also have the movie, which I watch again from time to time. Rereading the book takes more time, but maybe I will do that, too.

I like the look of If, Then, and The Woman in the Lake. Enjoy! Thanks for visiting my blog.

  2. Hi Naida,

I wish I could be as disciplined as you and just walk away from the computer when other things in my life demand immediate attention. Not me, I make a vain attempt at trying to cram everything into the same amount of time and getting myself totally stressed out to the point of exhaustion – will I never learn!!

Your sweater is looking good with its new sleeves and I think your plan for the edging will work well. I’m like you – if something doesn’t look as good as it should and it can’t be changed or repaired to my satisfaction, then starting over is the only option for me.

I really like the sound of ‘The Woman In The Lake’ and whilst ‘Lost Roses’ probably isn’t one for me, I do agree that the cover looks particularly good.

I though I was about the only person left who hadn’t read ‘Gone Girl’, so I was pleased to see it appear in your reading pile, which has given me the incentive to dig out my own copy.

The weather today has been amazingly warm and sunny. People were out and about in their droves and all the outside seating was occupied in the cafes, tea-rooms and pubs!

I hope that your week is good, that you don’t have to work quite so many long hours and that your reading schedule is amazing 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, yes, sometimes it is good to walk away, or try to get to what needs immediate attention then the rest can wait. I know, it’s hard but the stress isn’t worth it.
Thank you, I am liking the sweater so far and I can’t wait to wear it. I want it to be just right.

I can’t wait to get to these new books, they all sound good to me. I have the 24 hour readathon coming in April so maybe one of these will be good for that event.
Gone Girl is good so far and I want to watch the movie next.
Enjoy the weather, I love outdoor seating! Have a nice week also 🙂

  3. I have also been a bit too busy lately.

I have heard so much about Gone Girl. I never even saw the film. I might give it a read myself. I look forward to reading your thoughts on it.

  6. I just finished reading Lost Roses yesterday and thought it was excellent. I still need to watch A Star is Born too. I almost rented it this weekend but chose something else instead. I’ll get to it soon though. Hope you have a great week!

  7. I still haven’t seen Gone Girl, I figured since I know the plot from reading the book, it wouldn’t be very effective.
It’s still hot and humid here, I’m looking forward to cooler weather.

Have a great reading week and please stop by:)

  8. We are going through the same slight move towards spring. At least it has stopped raining all the time, but it still freezes most nights.

Your sweater looks so cute! I can crochet but clothes never turn out. I can only knit sweaters.

    Have a lovely, warmer week!

  9. That’s a fun, ombre pink. What a lucky gal your daugther is; I hope to have all of our closets fitted with closet systems so my kids can get rid of their dressers. The three of us finished off the last of Glee’s sixth season. What an epic marathoning of that show. We have to find a new one to watch together but Stranger Things 3 is out now I believe!

    • Thank you, I love the ombre. Her closet is nice and organized now. I’ve never watched Glee, but I like Stranger Things. Around here it’s out soon, I think in the summer.
      Enjoy your week!
