Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 4/7/19: A Little of This and a Little of That

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday all. After a very rainy Friday, we are having beautiful Spring weather this weekend. This is my kind of weather in the 70’s, it gives me more energy. This week flew right on by again. And I was busy with the usual Saturday errands and housework yesterday so I skipped the 24 Hour Read-a-Thon this time around. I just couldn’t fit it in like I had hoped to. Hopefully I can do the Fall one. I did get some good crocheting and film watching in this past week which was nice.

Onto my updates…

Recently on the blog:

I reviewed The Disgraceful Lord Gray (The King’s Elite #3) by Virginia Heath. This was fun historical romance and left me with a smile on my face. I recommend it.

Up next:
gonefar
I sound like a broken record but I have to get my thoughts up on Gone Girl next and I will be reading and posting about Far Side of the Sea in April as well.

On Tuesday, I’m posting the “Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books”.

In my mailbox recently…

I received a copy of The Perfect Girlfriend via Amazon Vine. I keep seeing this one around blog land and I am very intrigued.

A copy of Swann’s Down (Henry Swann Mystery) arrived via Partners In Crime Tours for a June 24th review.

Watching:
We recently watched A Quiet Place and it was good. I enjoy post-apocalyptic horror stories and this one was full of suspense. I also got my husband to watch an old childhood favorite with me, The ‘Burbs. Because who doesn’t love 1980’s Tom Hanks movies or Tom Hanks at all for that matter? He is the most awesome.

We went to see the new Pet Sematary because if you know me, you know Stephen King is a top favorite and I can’t not watch any film versions of his books.

I’m a little torn. This version is different from the original, which is a good thing to change it up some but they didn’t develop the characters as much here. Even with the kids, there are really no scenes of them interacting or playing. Gage barely had any screen time. And they left an important flashback out which surprised me. Zelda was changed up a little and that was really scary. I liked what they did with Ellie’s character as far as the creepy factor goes, it gave me the chills. And I liked the new ending. So, overall, worth the watch especially in a dark theater with surround sound. It’s my favorite King novel and I was excited to see this remake of an old classic.

Crocheting:
I am still working on my Spring sweater but I did take a break and whipped up the Trenton Shawl  this past week, which I finished this morning. This is a project I made with another crocheter I met online. We’ve been online friends for several years and it was fun working on our shawls together and kind of cheering each other on. This is mine in progress. I’ll show a finished pic next updates when I take one. I used LionBrand Shawl in a Ball in Community Coral which is light and colorful. I love the colorway on it.

  1. Thanks for reminding me that I want to watch A Quiet Place and for your thoughts on Pet Sematary. I couldn’t decide from the trailer if it looked good or not and I read the book so long ago.

  2. It is really nice on Long Island too. I am about to head out.

I really want to see A Quiet Place. When I first heard about it the idea seemed gimmicky. However, I have heard such good things about it.

i look forward to your upcoming post on Outrageous Things and Books.

    Happy Sunday!

    • Enjoy the Spring weather Brian, it’s supposed to be nice this weekend also. A Quiet Place was good, it reminded me of Bird Box in a way. I think it’s an interesting concept, having to stay quiet. I can’t imagine that would last long.

  4. Happy April! I am hoping the spring will bring me more energy–I am sure feeling better will help too. I am so tired of being sick. I look forward to reading your thoughts about Gone Girl and Far Side of the Sea. I love Tom Hanks, but I don’t think I have ever seen The Burbs. I should probably remedy that! A Quiet Place sounds good. I hope you have a great week, Naida.

  5. I love staying up late but man, it jacks up my biorhythms. Even going to bed at 10 makes me all groggy in the morning. You go on seeing the new Pet Semetary; I saw the old one years ago and got freaked out. It’s always fun to see the color change in those kind of yarn balls.
I finished a pair of booties and will post about it on Tuesday and I’ve shown two birthday cards that were for birthdays this past week. The second one felt like the vibe I’ve been reaching for for the longest time. Can’t wait to try such a thing again.

    • Ugh, I know. I have to be in bed early or I’m sleepy and cranky the next day at work. lol The Pet Semetary movies are nice and creepy.
I love the pretty colorways in the different yarns. I finished my shawl and will post a pic tomorrow.
Yay, I want to see the booties and birthday cards. You do a great job!
      Enjoy your weekend.

  7. The Perfect Girlfriend has me intrigued also. I do love anything Tom Hanks but Steven King is a no go for me. Such a pity I can’t do horror (If you want any sleep for weeks after) I think I’m missing out on some good stories.

  8. I loved the original film of Pet Sematary but haven’t watched the latest, though. And I’ve to smile at the last image because that is so me, lol.
