April 9: Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s TTT topic is Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books 

1. Book Blogging. First on my list, not so outrageous but definitely a labor of love. Running a book blog takes time and effort as you well know if you are reading this.

2. Accepting Books for Review. This goes hand in hand with #1 on my list. I love getting review books and am honored when I receive them from the publishers and authors but it is again, a labor of love. And it’s alot of work especially when you have review deadlines to meet. Just count the hours you take reading a book then add the time spent reviewing and sharing it on social media.

3. I once had my husband drive me from the airport directly to the bookstore so I could pick up my copy of the latest Harry Potter installment which I pre-ordered. I can’t remember if it was the last book in the series, but it was being released the day we flew back in from vacation and I didn’t want to go home without my copy. I needed to know if Snape was good or evil, I remember that because my book came with a free bumper sticker that said “Snape is Good”. Hubs double parked so I could run in and grab my book. He’s a keeper.

4.  Collect Books even though I don’t have room for all of them. I’m being kind to myself and using the word “collect” instead of “hoard”.

5.  Read all day. I’ve done read-a-thons before and you basically read all day as much as you can.

6. Photographing Books. Not too outrageous, but I enjoy taking pictures of books. Enough so that I tend to bring books along with me if we are going to the park or for a drive just in case I find a nice spot to snap a book picture for my Instagram or Blog posts later.

7. Purchase books that I know I won’t read anytime soon. I do this all the time. This goes hand in hand with #4.

 

8. Definitely fan-girly, I’ve written to Dean Koontz and mailed him a crocheted stuffed animal that I made for him with a note saying how I loved The Taking. He responded with a personally autographed hard copy of The Taking so that was beyond awesome. The inscription reads: “To Naida, this hopeful little end of the world story!”  I tell this story to all who will listen. Also, do you see how crochet is magical?

 

9. Gone to see book to film adaptations when I should have known better. When Twilight (don’t judge me) was popular, I’d read the books with my girlfriends and as the films came out, we’d go and watch them. Waiting on a long line to get in, then sitting in a crowded theater with a bunch of teeny boppers screaming basically every time Edward or Jacob made an appearance on-screen was definitely annoying.

10. Talk and talk and talk about books and analyze books. I can talk all day with another bookworm. This is not outrageous, but I am so that person who loves recommending books and who when watching any kind of book to film adaptation will always be like “in the book this happens this way actually…”. It causes alot of eye rolling with the non-readers.
