The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello all and happy weekend. I took a month long unexpected blog break but am catching up a little this weekend. I have missed you all. Life has been busy, both my kids had birthdays these past few weeks and work keeps me busy as does life in general. I  know you can all relate to that. And lately the nicer weather has kept me outdoors in my free time so blogging tends to take the back seat. Most afternoons after work have been spent out in my yard reading and relaxing or crocheting in bed watching movies and shows. Our pool is open but I still haven’t gotten it, the weather has been warm but it needs to be really hot for me to go in. I did read a book, a big one too, over 500 pages and my review is up for Doctor Sleep .

Also wishing the dad’s a very Happy Father’s Day today. Yesterday was spent at a Father’s Day BBQ with family so that was really nice. One of the guests was 98 years old and we enjoyed chatting with her and hearing her stories. She was telling us how she was traveling to Russia when Chernobyl happenedAnd that she has volunteered with her church’s food bank for the past 22 years and still does! She said they take her there a few days a week she and sits in a chair and helps place the food on the plates for the homeless. And that she obtained her science degree and she is the last living founding member of a women’s group from Brooklyn who recently sought her out to honor her and she met Mayor de Blasio at the ceremony. She brought the ceremonial booklet and honorary sash with her to show everyone. Founded in 1954 the group has grown and has chapters in several states including California. I could go on and on about the chat I had with her. Amazing and inspiring. I could hardly believe she was 98. God bless her.

Onto my bookish updates…

Recently on the Blog:

My thoughts on Doctor Sleep are up. It was fantastic.

Reviews Coming Soon:

Alot. I am behind on reviews so….

Watching:
Big Little Lies Season 2  is on and it’s good so far, I’ve got my daughter hooked on this one too. I also recently watched They Come Knocking on Hulu which had a slow start but was surprisingly good, this is an Indie horror film. I’ve been watching Castle Rock here and there which is also entertaining. I knew I recognized Bill Skarsgård, he plays Pennywise in the new IT films so it was neat seeing him in Castle Rock too.

In My Mailbox:

  1. I haven’t written a Sunday Post this week but thought I’d still visit some friendly bloggers 😉

I completely understand, blogging is fun and a great way to pass the time but is usually way down the list of priorities in life! Lol! Cute picture of Otis ❤ I did enjoy the last season of Big Little Lies but haven't started watching season 2; I felt they just wanted to cash in on a success, I wasn't sure where they'd take the characters and my warm fuzzy feeling for it would be corrupted.

I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reads. x

  2. There’s a lady at my church who just turned 100. Amazing. She’s been retired for longer than I’ve been alive.

Yay for bookmail! I just recently started using Bookish First a lot and so far I’ve had good luck with them. I won three books and almost have enough points for the book of my choice. I hope you like them.

  3. Happy Sunday!

It has also been a bit cool here on Long Island. We went to the beach yesterday but I did not stay in the water long as it was not really warm enough.

Talking to older folks can be so enlightening. The world is changing so fast. People in their 80s and 90s grew up in a very different place.

    • Happy Sunday Brian 🙂 I know, it’s been mild here mostly too but still nice. A relaxing day at the beach sounds great.
The world changes so fast it’s really interesting hearing about it.
      Enjoy your week!

  7. I’m planning to catch up with Big Little Lies – meaning I need to watch season 1. Somehow I missed watching when it first came out. And I didn’t read the book either. So many books, so little time… Enjoy the summer activities and you’re reading.

I wanted to read the book too but may choose a different one from the author.

  8. It’s been HOT here and I’m sure the pool water is warm.

The family get together sounds like so much fun – especially chatting with the 98 year old.

I’m glad to see you liked Dr. Sleep because my son has it on his birthday wish list.

  10. Sounds like you’ve been busy. I love your books by the pool photo. Glad you are enjoying some warmer weather. It has to be almost heatwave before I’ll go in our pool.

  11. How lovely to have a pool in your backyard. My kids desperately want one but their father has firmly said no. It’s great you’re enjoying the weather and spending free time reading.

    • The pool was actually my husbands idea, he loves the water. Now that our kids are older, they don’t use it as much but he still does. Happy weekend!

  12. Hi Naida,

You are making me feel tired by just reading about your hectic last few weeks – no wonder you decided to put blogging on the back burner for a while – something has to give right? and family time is so important.

I haven’t come across Meryl Moss Media before and as all your featured new books seemed to have a bit of a common theme running through them, I assumed they were a specialist publisher. However, I have just spent a lovely few minutes checking out their amazing portfolio of authors and titles – so thanks for sharing the link and I hope that you enjoy your new books.

    Welcome back 🙂

    • Thank you Yvonne, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Glad to share, Meryl Moss Media is a great publishing company, they have sent me some nice titles since last year. They do mainly thrillers.
I hope you are well and enjoying the weekend.:)
