Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 7/7/19: Summertime Vibes

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Good morning all. I hope you are having a nice weekend. It has been hot and humid here, on 4th of July the temps hit 90. I prefer this over the bitter cold winter though.

It has been a busy few weeks. I recently got back from vacation. I relished being on vacation. It is always hard getting back to work after time off but that’s life. I mainly did this by the lake for a week:

I’ll share a few more pics at the end of this post.

Onto my updates….

Recently on the Blog:
I read and reviewed 3 books these past 2 weeks, that’s alot for me:

In My Mailbox:

The Romanov Empress: A Novel of Tsarina Maria Feodorovna by C. W. Gortner arrived via LibraryThing early reviewers. I’ve read this author before so I am excited about this one.  Oh my gosh, this cover is gorgeous.

The East End by Jason Allen, The Summer Cottage by Viola Shipman and In at the Deep End by Kate Davies all arrived via AmazonVine because I have zero self control. The Kept Woman: A Novel (Will Trent Book 8) by Karin Slaughter I found through AmazonPrime. I’ve read her before and she’s a favorite in this genre.

Currently reading:
jj
The 3rd in the Alex Cross series, Jack & Jill. I really enjoyed the first two in this series.

Watching:
Toy Story 4 was fantastic and cute and funny but I wish Buzz had more film time. I recently saw Annabelle Comes Home at the theater, very scary with alot of jump scares. I’m finding Big Little Lies is still juicy. Stranger Things is back and it is soooo good. I watched 3 episodes this weekend.

That wraps up my updates. How have you been? What are you watching? Reading? Crafting?

I’ll close with a few vacation pics….enjoy your week.

The view from the cabin. It is very peaceful here within walking distance of the water and private beach.

It rained overnight and early one morning the fog was so thick you could barely see the lake. This mist all around was hauntingly beautiful.

Pastries and morning coffee from the local bakery in town.

And last but not least my crocheting with a view from the cabin porch. It’s a sweater for Otis. I will have to have him model it and share a pic.

  1. I find it very hard going back to work after vacation. It looks like you had a good time.

I have never read James Patterson but my wife is a fan. I think that she has read a couple of Alex Cross books.

    • Hi Brian, it is definitely hard coming back to work after vacation. We did have a great time away.
I am enjoying the Alex Cross series.
      Have a nice weekend!

  2. Hi Naida,

Some great holiday snaps and the peace and quiet sounds like just what the doctor ordered, especially with the side order of pastries and coffee 🙂

I haven’t read any James Patterson for years. I’m afraid the stories all got a bit ‘samey’ for me, but that’s an entirely personal point of view, and of course he is a hugely popular author on the whole!

You have some great new books for your shelf this week and your particular cover of ‘The Romanov Empress’ is definitely stunning and far superior to any of the other editions shown on Goodreads. Certainly one to hang on to!

We never got around to going to the cinema to watch Toy Story 4, so I guess we will wait for the Blu-ray to come out and we can watch it on our home cinema.

I hope they eased you back into work gently, Happy Reading 🙂

    Yvonne xx

    • Hi Yvonne, I loved the quiet time away.
This is my 3rd book into this series and I have enjoyed the first 2 more already. This is still a good installment.
I need to get to my review books after this Patterson read and The Romanov Empress is definitely calling my name.
Enjoy Toy Story 4 if you watch it, it was a good one.
      Have a nice weekend!

  3. It is always so hard to go back to work after a vacation, isn’t it? I am glad you had a nice vacation. Such beautiful photos! Romanov Empress does sound really good! I think that is one I might like. I really liked Jack and Jill, and hope you do too. I haven’t read a Patterson book in years. I am glad you enjoyed Toy Story 4. I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about it. My daughter really wants to see it, and so we may go see it before it is out of the theater. I hope you have a wonderful week, Naida!

I am almost finished with Jack and Jill and I am enjoying it, but I liked the first 2 books in this series better.

  5. A lake with a nearby bakery sounds perfect to me.

Hot and humid here, too, and I do NOT prefer it over the bitter cold. LOL

Hope you have a great week of reading!

  6. Naida, I enjoyed seeing the vacation photos. The lake and cabin look and sound wonderfully relaxing.
I hope to see a pic or two of cutie pie Otis modeling his new sweater in the future. Have a good week ahead! 🙂

  7. Sounds like a very wonderful vacation! I hope you have a great week ahead of you. And, also, I NEED to get my hands on The Romanov Empress. Sounds brilliant. I’m always down for more Romanov based works (fiction and non-fiction) and I’m a little surprised I hadn’t heard of that one.
