Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 8/4/2019: Hello August

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello August. That came around quickly. It was another nice week and I continued to enjoy my staycation. We spent a day at the beach and boardwalk which was nice and it’s tradition so I always enjoy going down the shore. I got good reading time in and finished up reading two more review books. I crocheted, I watched tv and just mostly lounged around.

This weekend I did the reverse read-a-thon and I read Dead as a Door Knocker: A House-Flipper Mystery by Diane Kelly. This read-a-thon was good incentive to get one more review book read so that was great.

Nothing this week! But I am catching up on review books.

watching:
I finally finished watching The Civil War documentary  on Netflix. It was really good. I’m not usually into war history unless it’s the Civil War so I had been wanting to watch this since it aired on PBS a while ago. I was happy a few weeks ago when I realized that Netflix now had it. It starts off with the start of the war all the way through the end and through Lincoln’s assassination and the aftermath of that. Some of it was tough to watch since they have alot of photographs but it was really interesting. There’s also footage and audio of a few surviving Civil War veterans decades after the war. You can catch the youtube trailer here for more details if you’re interested.

Also of note, if you’re interested, I found this video about the true origins of the Cabbage Patch Kids. When I was little I had 8 Cabbage Patch Kids and I remember the frenzy over them. Seeing this video made me angry I must admit it. Have you heard this story about the independent artist who originally handmade the dolls?

==================================

That wraps up my updates for now. What are you up to? Enjoy your week! I will close with a few more pics from our recent beach trip.

  1. I spend yesterday at the beach. I have become a real beach person as I have gotten older.

    The Ken Burns Civil War Documentarian is so well done. It had been a while since I have seen it.

  2. Oh boy, interesting tidbit about the Cabbage Patch dolls. When they came out and were hot, my mom’s coworker bought me one before buying one for her daughter. Your staycation sounds great; good for you on chillaxing.

    • Isn’t that something about the dolls? I never knew that.
      I enjoyed staycationing this time and it’s always nice taking time off work regardless.
      Happy weekend!

  3. It sounds like you are making the most of your staycation. 🙂 Your visit to the beach and walk on the boardwalk sound so nice! The cover of Dead as a Door Knocker is so adorable. I really want to give that book a try too. I saw the story about the Cabbage Patch dolls. It is a sad one. I had two growing up. I still have them around here somewhere, I’m sure. I hope you have a great week, Naida.
