Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 12/29/2019: Happy New Year and Bookish Best of 2019

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday and Happy New Year. Can you believe 2020 will soon be here? I like the sound of it though, twenty-twenty. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas if they celebrate it. Christmas here was nice, I spent two relaxing days at home. I made the peanut butter blossoms I had been wanting to bake. I also baked chocolate chip. If you try the peanut butter blossom recipe, it says bake at 375 degrees for around 8-10 minutes…that’s a big no-no. They bake at 325 for 14 minutes then I let them sit on the baking tray for another 4 minutes before putting them on the cooling rack.

Book-wise, I’ve been bad with reading and reviewing in December, I just did not have enough time. My last read of 2019 was A Crafter Quilts a Crime: A Handcrafted Mystery so I am going to try and sneak that review in by tomorrow to wrap start fresh for the new year.

Onto more updates….

in my mailbox:

I grabbed two vintage copies for myself while Christmas shopping for my kids at a vintage book and record shop: Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King and The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Crocheting:
I whipped this cowl up as a gift and included a pair of tan gloves to compliment it.

  1. We had a lovely Christmas and I’m looking forward to a quiet NYE with a couple of friends. They come over to our house, we play games and watch the countdown to midnight on telly. I’ve got to say both lots of cookies look delicious, I wish I was more of a baker to give them a try. 😉
Happy New Year and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week. Here’s my Sunday Post

  2. The cookies look so yummy! My husband baked some new cookies yesterday and they turned out delicious but kind of hard. I guess he’ll have to make a new batch. Thank goodness I love to help out by eating. haha… Sounds like a great bookish year. Can’t wait to hear what you’ll be reading next year and of course your crochet projects!

  5. Hi Naida,

Christmas Day went really well for us, visiting with my brother and his family. Watching the excitement of our G.niece and G.nephew was amazing, if rather tiring. I am going to gloss over the intervening days, as a sickness bug which hit me and much of the local population, has meant that I can remember very little else of the holidays! NYE will be as always, a quiet affair for just the two of us, as I am finally back in the land of the living!

We have so much Christmas food and goodies left over that we are going to have to waste, but I can now appreciate looking at those cookies, as I love peanut butter, even though I am not that much of a home baker these days.

I haven’t really even felt like reading, although as some consolation, I have managed to exceed my measly Goodreads target for the year. I did have some great reads however, although picking my favourite would be quite difficult. The only book I awarded 5 out of 5 stars to was ‘A Sinner’s Gift’ by Zoe Beesley, so I guess that’s a good place to start.

I already have a full review and blog tour schedule for the coming weeks, so I need to settle in for some marathon reading sessions. The weather certainly isn’t anywhere near cold enough for snow days in the foreseeable future, so that’s not going to help me any! It has been so mild that we have been out and about in December without jackets most of the time – what gives?

I hope that you have a happy and peaceful New Year and speak to you in 2020 – a whole new decade and leap year to look forward to 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne! Happy New Year! I hope you are feeling better. Glad you had such a nice Christmas with your family.
I almost reached my Goodreads goal again, but maybe this year. I remember your review of A Sinner’s Gift and it sounds like a good thriller.
Enjoy the mild weather, it’s cold here but today I’ll be home in my pajamas all day. 🙂

  6. As often as I write the date, I am looking forward to writing 20 instead of 19. I think it has a nicer flow to it. 🙂 Those cookies look so delicious! I would really like to read The Exorcist. I hope you have a Happy New Year, Naida!
