Good morning and happy Sunday. January came around so quickly. We had a quiet New Years here, we ordered Chinese food for dinner on NYE and watched the ball drop on tv.  I took the Christmas tree down on New Years Day since I was home. I feel that January through the end of March are the longest three months of the year. These are cold and dark winter days but at least they make for good reading and tv binge watching time.

I signed up for Serena’s Poetry Reading Challenge. I love this idea for a challenge and I enjoy reading poetry. There are a few options but I chose this one:

One of the easiest, and possibly most difficult, will be getting people to sign up to read a poem-a-day through the Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day service. The challenge is to read a poem-a-day for a week once per month and write about which poems were your favorite and why. You can write up a short blurb on your Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, or your blog. I’d love for you to share your experience in the comments each month.

I binged season 2 of YOU on Netflix with my daughter. So good. And hubby and I finished up season one of The Righteous Gemstones on HBO which was laugh out loud funny. And  I’ve been watching The Food that Built America on the History Channel which has been just as great as The Men Who Built America . Thank you History Channel, now I know how Hershey’s chocolate and the Milky Way chocolate bar came to be. Have you seen any of these? What are you watching lately?

  3. I feel that way about the summer months–only they are long, hot, and unrelenting. LOL Daughters of the Lake sure looks good! I hope you enjoy it. I look forward to reading your thoughts on Then She Was Gone. I haven’t watched You yet. I keep telling myself I want to read the book first. I may have to just admit that won’t happen any time soon and go ahead and watch the show. It’s the reasons I miss so many movies . . . I hope you have a great week!

    As there are only the two of us and we were out on Christmas Day this year, we never bothered with a tree or decorations, which is probably just as well, as coming home from relatives on Christmas Day evening, is just about the last thing either of us can remember, before we were both laid low with bugs and viruses. Even now, we are both still suffering and nowhere near back to normal and one of the family we spent Christmas day with, has since been hospitalised, with double pneumonia and a similar virus!

    As just about everyone we meet has similar horror stories of the holidays ruined, I can only come to the conclusion that the excessively mild weather has failed to kill off many of the bugs and germs which a hard winter would cope with. It has been so spring like that the daffodil bulbs are already poking through and we just haven’t needed to fish those winter coats out of the wardrobe yet!

    ‘The She Was Gone’ and ‘Daughters Of The Lake’ both sound good and are both by authors I haven’t read before. The cover of the Wendy Webb book is particularly alluring and the premise in some ways reminds me of the film ‘What Lies Beneath’ with Harrison Ford, although without the Gothic history context of course!

    I quite like the sound of Serena’s poetry challenge and whist I definitely won’t be taking part myself, I hope to stop by and visit often.

    • Hi Yvonne, I am sorry that you are still sick over there. Maybe it is the mild weather. I liked What Lies Beneath and I am looking forward to reading Daughters Of The Lake. the poetry challenge so far is fun, I’ve been reading one per day and will share my thoughts here.

  9. January- March drag sometimes, I agree. Especially in the north where it’s dreary for 3 months lol. you’re right- good binging weather (reading or TV- or both). And I love Chinese food on NYE! Anytime really haha!

  10. The drag between January and March is part of why I leave my decorations up a while. It also takes me forever to put them up, so I hate to take them down too early after all that effort. I bought a new tree for next year, so I just added to my time. 🙂

    Then She Was Gone sound good. I missed First Book this year, but I needed to take a break from reading for a few weeks. I just wanted to enjoy the holidays this year.

  11. I am thankful I don’t live where it’s so cold in winter. But I like the idea of binging on reading especially.
    We saw the Chinese New Year celebration (our d-i-l is Chinese) but didn’t stay up for our own. 🙂
    The poem exercise sounds lovely and I hope you enjoy it. I plan to read a bit more poetry this year too.
