Good morning all and happy Sunday. How is it the last Sunday in April already? I am glad May is just around the corner, it’s a pretty month when so much is in bloom after a rainy April and the temps start to warm up more regularly. I hope you are doing well and staying safe. Today marks day 35 of quarantine for myself. I’m still doing my yoga/meditation daily and aerobics a few days per week. It continues to be helpful. Working from home keeps my mind busy a well so that’s been good. My kids are grown but they are also going stir crazy and they miss their friends and just being able to get out and go. I might be back to the office in early to mid-May but I have not heard for sure yet. It will be an adjustment going back as well.

While I’m busy with work during the week, being home gives me more time for things I enjoy like baking. This week I made homemade cornbread. It’s really good warm from the oven with a little butter spread on top.

I finished up Redeeming the Reclusive Earl by Virginia Heath yesterday. I am late with my review on this one as I started reading it before quarantine for a virtual book tour, then I was not able to finish reading it until now so my post will be up this week. It was very good, I always enjoy this author.

I haven’t decided what to read next. I aim to finish one book this upcoming week to round it up to 3 read for April. I pre-ordered my hard copy of If It Bleeds but shipping has been delayed so it should arrive late this week.

I have an Amazon credit so I purchased an e-copy of Slightly Married (Bedwyn Saga Book 1) by Mary Balogh.

watching:
We finished watching Little Fires Everywhere which was fantastic. I am looking for a new series to watch. Any recommendations?

Also still watching, 90 Day Fiancee which never fails to entertain.

  6. The cornbread looks so good! My husband’s work at home order is extended until the middle of July now. I don’t have a date for when I’ll be back in the office full-time, but for now I’m grateful I only have to go in one day a week. Although no days would be better. Haha

    Great job on the cornbread – looks delicious.
    We haven’t been told when we are going back to the office but I’ll be honest, I hope we can put it off quite a bit more. My office tends to be grand central station as everyone always needs to come see me so I would be fine with a bit more home office time. Hope you have a great week ahead!

    • lol Iliana, sigh Mr. Darcy. Thanks, and yes the building I work in has a few hundred people in it and our cubicles are not 6 feet apart so I don’t know what will happen. I’d rather be home another month at the least.

  9. Same here with kids. Mine are high school age and while they seem to be handling things well, I know it’s driving them nuts not being able to see friends.

    Cornbread sounds like comfort food. 🙂

  10. I’ve been baking banana bread – probably as comforting as your delicious looking cornbread. Our shelter order is through May 26. I’m trying to keep calm and continue reading and taking an occasional walk around my neighborhood. I’ve been catching up on Top Chef. I just started season 11. I also started watching Afterlife on Netflix. Very dark comedy written by and starring Ricky Gervais. That’s about all I’ve watched during quarantine.

    • May 26 is good I think. Walking helps also and getting fresh air is good. I sit out in my yard as much as I can when the weather allows.

  11. Hi! Naida,

    Yes! April has been a very strange month and May is set to be more of the same I think, it will almost seem strange to be allowed out again. I don’t think I am ready for all that hustle and bustle of socialising, I have grown quite used to the peace and tranquillity of my garden.

    Some companies are beginning to flout lockdown rules, however our Prime Minister (himself just back from a spell of hospitalisation and recuperation after contracting the virus), is back in charge from today and has already made it clear that it is too soon to begin relaxing the rules just yet, for fear of a second epidemic spike, which would overwhelm our health workers.

    The government has now issued hubbie with a secure PC, so he has begun working from home, which is good for his sanity, although not so good for mine, as I have been used to having someone to chat to during the day.

    Cornbread is a typically US dish and although we have visited different States many times, neither of us have ever tried it, but it looks delicious. I love banana bread though. so was drooling a little reading Mary’s comment.

    So far we have both avoided any daytime television or computer games, so we only use the lounge and diner in the evening, when TV goes on and we eat our meal. As April has been so unseasonably hot, we have been out in the garden almost every day, although it looks as though the April showers will now be arriving in May and the next few days are taking a definite downward trend!

    I have had a good run of very engrossing, page-turning books, however the one I have just started for a Blog Tour review, is not at all what I thought it would be and is much too intense for me. It is more like a work of literary art, than a fiction novel, but stubborn as I am, I am determined to stick with it and meet the review deadline.

    Well! That’s about all from this side of the pond for now. I am also working a jigsaw which I shall feature very soon and I am slowly working my way through an Afghan blanket, ready for a charity donation when things are all back to normal.

    • Hi Yvonne, yes April flew by. It will take adjusting to getting back out there strangely enough.
      Interesting about the cornbread, it is very good and lol about the banana bread comment.

      Baking has been relaxing, I think because it is more for a side dish as opposed to having to cook meals daily and trying to find a variety of dishes to make. We have a good amount of frozen chicken breast in the freezer so baked chicken and potatoes has been the recurring dinner here lately. I don’t mind it though, it’s tasty and filling.

      Lucky you with the warm weather! It’s been cold and rainy mostly here but with May on the way, that changes nicely.

      Ahh meeting those review deadlines can be a challenge, I have a review posting tomorrow for a book tour, and I am late with it because I lost my reading mojo in March and unfortunately I didn’t make the deadline. I finished the book this weekend and it was great though.
