Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday May 3, 2020: Reading, Crochet and Etc.

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday everyone, I hope you are doing well and staying safe. I am happy May is here. I keep wanting time to push forward if that makes sense. Hopefully the covid cases keep going down as the weeks pass. My niece tested positive last week but she’s doing okay and staying home so knock on wood it is on it’s way out of her system. It took her 10 days to get her test results back.

We had more of less the same kind of week, thankfully uneventful, still working from home, still staying inside. My husband had to go to the grocery store finally after almost two weeks for a few things we can’t get from curbside pickup. So while there he picked up a few packs of burgers which we’ve been grilling this weekend and eating al fresco in the backyard. The weather has finally gotten really nice here and after rain pretty much all last week and most of April, we’ve now got a stretch of gorgeous sunny weather in the 60’s and 70’s for the next couple of days.

I’m relishing the sunshine and warm breeze on my face. It’s funny the things you really stop to appreciate now. The parks here in New Jersey have been reopened after being closed for a few weeks and I’m hoping people are social distancing if they go. As of now we are still in lock-down until May 15th.

onto my weekly updates….

recently on the blog:
I’m proud of myself, I reviewed two books this past week.

coming soon:
I’ve set myself a personal goal of reading one book per week to try and get through my TBR mountain. This past week I read and LOVED Mrs. Lincoln’s Sisters by Jennifer Chiaverini. My thoughts will be up soon.

I received an ARC of Crochet Over 130 Techniques and Stitches by DK and I reviewed it already.

watching:
I re-watched Becoming Jane Austen for the umpteenth time and I recommend it, it’s a good one especially for the Austenites.

Also, my daughter and I binged two interesting documentary series on Disney Plus. I can’t think of the names right now, but they were both about ancient Egyptians and the Valley of the Kings and one of them was a 3 episode series on King Tut.

crochet:
rainbow
I finished up the larger rainbow pillow and added two clouds.

That covers my updates this week. How was your week? What are you up to? Stay well.

  1. I am glad to hear that your niece is doing well.

I am working a little less and I finally have a bit of time. My wife and I went for a fairly long walk today in a local park. The weather is perfect.

  2. I’ve enjoyed the Jennifer Chiaverini books. I haven’t read one in a few years though I loved the quilting ones. Our weather has also been nice, this week upper 60s and only one day of rain project so gorgeous. We plan to just stay home, even if lockdown is over. Cases are still increasing so it seems best.

Take care, be kind and sensible!

    • I would like to read more of Jennifer Chiaverini’s books myself. Enjoy the nice weather. Yes, I think it is best to stay home for longer also.
Take care and have a good week ahead!

  3. Sending best wishes and prayers your niece’s way! Hope her experience with it is mild and she does well.

I feel the same way about just being outside in the sun. It’s amazing how much more I appreciate the little things now!

Hope you have a good week and be safe.

  4. I am sorry to hear your niece tested positive, but glad to hear she is okay. I hope that continues to be the case. We have been enjoying nice weather as well. I heard the parks have reopened here–at least some of them. It’s supposed to be in the high nineties later this week. Summer is on it’s way . . .

I think I may aim to read one book a week too. Maybe I will do better if I have a set goal to aim for. I am enjoying my current read quite a bit, so there’s hope for me yet. 🙂

I hope you have a good week, Naida.

    • Thanks Wendy. It’s a scary time.
Enjoy the good weather and sunshine. The warmer weather is uplifting. We had such a cold and rainy April here.
One book a week has been a good goal to set. Stay well!

  5. Sending good wishes for your niece. I still don’t know anyone who has/had Covid-19. I hope it stays that way! Nice job on the pillow. I’m knitting a wrap for my sister, working a jigsaw puzzle, and reading. At night I’m catching up on Top Chef.
I hope you enjoy your reading this week and stay well!

    • Thanks, and yes, I feel anxious about reopening also but we are still doing what we’ve been doing so. I don’t think they should have opened the parks so soon either.

  6. We try to go to the grocery store about every 10 days or so. I can’t believe I used to go every other day practically! We had some nice weather last week but today I think we are going to get close to 100 degrees. Good grief, I’m not ready for summer. Great work on the pillow! And, most importantly wishing your niece a speedy recovery!

    • We’ve been doing the same Iliana, leaving it for as long as we can without going to the grocery store. I was there at least 2x per week before all this too.Wow! 100 degrees! Today the winds picked up and its now closer to 50 degrees.
      Thank you and stay well.

  7. Hi Naida,

I have an acquaintance from working in the charity shop, who unfortunately caught the virus and sadly passed away. However, she had several other underlying health conditions and was a lot older than myself, so technically in the shielded bracket. Touching wood, that is the only personal impact the virus has had in our lives and I sincerely hope it stays that way!

Sending your niece very best wishes for a full recovery, she needs to take plenty of time to rest and recuperate completely 🙂

I like the way the rainbow cushions are getting ever larger and the additional clouds are a nice touch!

I am still finding it very difficult to stick at any one thing, so my reading is suffering even more than normal, as are my jigsaw puzzles and crochet work. I need to muster up some enthusiasm from somewhere, before they announce their easing of restrictions on Thursday and everyone starts trying to find a new sense of normal! That thought is almost as scary as lockdown has been…

We have a holiday weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and so far the weather looks pretty good, so we might be able to get out in the garden again 🙂

    Take care

    • Hi Yvonne, I am sorry to hear about that. It’s very scary to think of.
Thank you, the rainbow pillow and clouds were fun to make.
The thought of easing the restrictions is scary, they announced here yesterday that the lockdown is extended another 30 days so I’m thankful for that.

Hope the weather is good for you to enjoy being out in the garden. The colder temps have creeped back in over here but today the sun is out and it should be warming up. Enjoy your day and maybe you can get some jigsaw puzzle time in.

  8. I hope your niece’s experience isn’t too difficult and that she recovers fully and quickly.
I so enjoy the puppy pic and the rainbow crochet!
The crochet book looks right up your book alley!
    Have a good week.
