Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday May 24, 2020: May The Force Be With You etc.

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Good morning, Happy Memorial Day Weekend. I hope you are doing well. May has come and is nearly gone so quickly. We’ve had a stretch of nice weather here which is supposed to continue with this upcoming week. It has been really nice in the 60’s and 70’s.

Today marks day 63 of Quarantine. The governor has eased restrictions here just in time for Memorial Day weekend and I think it’s a little too soon so we are still home. On Friday during my lunch hour we took a drive out and passed by the local state park near home which has been re-opened. Already around noon there were alot of people walking and biking in the park and I only noticed 2 people wearing masks as we drove through. I also noticed with the amount of people walking around that most were not social distancing as they passed by each other closely. We didn’t get out of the car but I was surprised almost no one had masks on when the entrance rules clearly state please wear a mask when visiting. I hope cases don’t spike in upcoming weeks but I find it incredible how some people are very lax about this whole thing.

Well, that’s enough of that…I had a good week and I am grateful. I baked Nutella cookies using a co-worker’s recipe. They are delicious and have a soft cake-like texture. Interestingly enough the recipe calls for ricotta cheese but you don’t taste it. They were a big hit here at home so I am going to make another batch soon.

  1. Those Nutella cookies look unbelievably good.

Final Flight sounds like an interesting book that is worth the read. The synopsis makes me want to read it and learn more.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. I can’t believe those people who ignore the rules for safety, but I’m glad you’re being careful. The mixed messages we get from the White House contribute to these casual attitudes, I am sure.

Stay safe! I just ordered some more masks. I am sure we’ll be on lockdown here (senior residence) for the foreseeable future, but now that I have books coming in regularly and have a grocery app to supplement the less-than-stellar food here, I’m good.

    Love the crocheted Baby Yoda!

Enjoy your week and your books, and here are my

    • It’s shocking how people ignore the safety rules and find excuses to try to validate that behavior.
That’s good your doing well inside.Stay safe also and enjoy your books this week!

  3. Happy Memorial Day weekend! Hope you have a great one. I too am surprised and a little dismayed at how so many people around here are flouting the social distancing and not wearing masks. I feel like it’s a little too soon for all that! Hopefully we don’t pay a price in a resurgence of cases.

Take care and have a nice week. 🙂

  4. We had that perfect weather for about 2.5 months with only about one day a week of rain. Now it’s up to the 80s and about 5 days a week of rain (North Carolina) I also think people aren’t taking the distancing and masks seriously enough and we just continue to stay home. I’m grateful we can.

I love the Baby Yoda! Have a good holiday weekend and happy reading!

    • Thanks, enjoy the warmer temps and happy reading. We had so much rain here in April and early May, it’s nice to see the sun coming out more now.

  5. Your Baby Yoda looks so cute! Ok, I have got to try those Nutella cookies which look delish. I’m really worried about the opening up and people disregarding social distancing and not wearing masks. I fear we may end up with more cases. For us we’ll still be staying in as much as possible.

    • Thanks Iliana. the Nutella cookies are really good.
We are staying home as much as we can and we stay away from people also. With the nicer weather, I finally started going for drives through long quiet stretches of road by us and it’s helped my anxiety.
      Stay safe and happy crafting.

  8. Hi Naida,

The lockdown rules have been relaxed over here too, but given the way that people have been behaving at the tourist areas and beaches, I too, think it is far too soon. I guess the proof of the pudding will show when in two or three weeks time, there is another spike in cases. We have been going out for short walks once a week, but even then we haven’t felt that comfortable with the amount of people out and about! Dave has been told he will be working from home for the foreseeable future and the charity shop where I volunteer probably won’t be opening until July, so I have plenty of time to make a decision.

I love Nutella, so your cookies look amazing and I bet they tasted good too? It was Dave’s birthday yesterday and mine today, so family ordered us an afternoon tea and we had a three way zoom tea party in our gardens yesterday. Dave’s work colleagues ordered cup cakes to be delivered, so all in all we have had more than our fair share of sugar intake, so we need to be good for the rest of the week (once we have finished up the cakes of course 🙂 )

So far, I have avoided watching any daytime TV and to be honest, it has been so hot that we have been sitting out until well into the evening too! I can’t remember the last time we had a downpour and there is no rain forecast for the foreseeable future, it’s more like the middle of summer, nit the end of spring!

The garden centres have reopened to a point, however the queues to get in have been so lengthy, that we have decided to avoid them and have pretty much written off the garden planting this year!

I really like the sound of ‘Final Flight’ and the ‘Catherine Ryan Hyde’ book is already on my list, as I love her writing.

Have a good week and stay safe 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, that’s good your husband is home until further notice and you have until July to decide. Ugh I’m hoping for the nest and that cases don’t spike again.
Happy Birthday to the both of you! How nice that your birthdays are close together like that. The zoom tea party and cupcakes sound great. Enjoy it.
It’s really nice to sit outside, I get out to the yard as much as I can and I’ve been doing for drives now again which has been good for me.
I noticed the garden center near us was mobbed this weekend, their was a line of cars waiting into the street to get into their parking lot. We’ve done some gardening here, mainly cleaning up shrubs. I ordered a flower bush online and had it delivered so we planted that out front this month.
Enjoy your week ahead and happy reading.

  9. Restrictions are easing here too with restaurants being opened for dine-in services and malls re-opening as well. I’ve noticed photos of the local parks being crowded here too with so few taking precautions. That worries me as well. We’re home for the holiday weekend, playing games and just taking it easy. I heard there is going to be a 9th season of Vampire Diaries coming out on Netflix at some point. I don’t know how I feel about that. Baby Yoda is so adorable! You did a great job.

I hope you have a great week, Naida.
