Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 8/2/2020 Hello August

sunday (249x249)mm
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello August and day 127ish of working from home. Summer is flying right by quarantine and all. I’ve been on stay-cation this past week which was nice. I just lounged around the house and went for walks and was brave and went to outdoor dining for lunch on Friday. I keep seeing outdoor dining and it looks too crowded but we were able to find a quiet spot and went as soon as they opened so we were the only ones there.  What does outdoor dining look like in your neck of the woods at the moment?

onto my updates…

recently on the blog:

I shared a poem this past week called If You Should Go by Countee Cullen as part of Serena’s Poetry Reading Challenge 2020.

I posted an interview with Mary Keliikoa. This was a pre-written interview post set up by Meryl Moss Media  and the author was very gracious and reached out to thank me, which is always nice. I look forward to reading this book.

Speaking of author’s reaching out, Lisa Jewell tweeted @ me after I shared my review of  The House We Grew Up In and she said this, which totally made my day:

Coming soon:
My thoughts on Final Flight by Eric Anderson will be up this week!

in my mailbox:
Stay by Catherine Ryan Hyde was available on Amazon Prime Reads and I could not resist because I enjoy this author’s writing very much.

on my hook:
I’ve been crocheting a few things lately, one is a summer cardigan for myself. I finished it up but need to take photos then I will share. The other thing is a cat couch on commission. I don’t usually crochet on commission anymore due to time constraints plus it can be stressful taking on a paid project because I want to finish it in a timely manner and some days I don’t even have the time to crochet. I have to say the cat couch is a fun pattern and pretty simple so far and I am thinking of making one of these for Otis as well sometime down the line. If you Google “cat couch crochet” or click here to read this article you can see a a crocheted cat couch looks like.

That wraps it up for now. I’ll close with pics of our outdoor dining this past week. We enjoyed Sangria with our meal and were seated near a small creek.
Enjoy your week, what are you reading? Watching? Doing?

  1. July did seem to go by fast surprisingly. And now school is starting up here in another week. It’s hard to believe. I am glad you got some time off from work. We didn’t take a vacation this summer like we normally would. I’ve been in a “save up all my time in case we get sick” mode. Paranoid, I know. I haven’t braved outdoor dining anywhere yet. We’re still isolating for the most part. Our area is a hotspot with still rising cases.

Yay for author recognition! That is awesome that Lisa Jewell commented on your review (via tweet). I hope you enjoy your current read and have a great week, Naida.

    • Hi Wendy, July flew by.
Wow, school is back so soon. I know, I have been very paranoid also and the outdoor dining was a big step for me.
Stay well and enjoy your books this week!

  2. July went too fast. I love the summer and I hate to see the end getting Evan a little close. Though I have been not going out much other then to beaches and parks I went out for outdoor dining last night. Though it was a Saturday night at a restaurant that is fairly crowded during normal times. This place was fairly empty, both inside and outside.

    • I agree, summer goes by so fast. I love the warm weather and sunshine. That’s good the outdoor dining was pretty empty for you.
Enjoy your Sunday and your books this week.

  3. It alternates between feeling like we are caught in endless slow motion and like time is just flying. I’ll like it better after this month and the hottest time of the year. I want to do projects but don’t feel very motivated, either it’s the heat or the crazy world. I have no idea about the dining as we don’t go out for weeks at a time.

I love the look of your reads. Derailed looks like something I want to read.

    • Time does seem to go by both fast and slow lately. I prefer the warmer months since it feels less like a quarantine since we can be outdoors more often still with social distancing.
Have a good week ahead and I am looking forward to reading Derailed.

  4. Happy August, Naida! It sounds like you’re enjoying the summer, although it is certainly a different kind of summer. We went out to eat outdoors last week, with family, which was a lot fun. It almost seemed like “old times”. Love the look of the crochet and the idea of summer cardigan! I’m sure it will be gorgeous.
I’m glad you are enjoying your reading–I need to “hit the books” soon. Have a great week ahead!

  5. We’ve been to outdoor dining a few times lately although I’m a little nervous every time. You just never know! Glad you were able to get out and enjoy some though! It does help to get out once in a while.

And yay for the Lisa Jewell tweet!

  6. I can’t believe it is August already, its like the whole middle of the year just vanished! I’ve avoided outdoor dining here in Scotland, it just doesn’t look far enough apart for me and a lot of the places serve alcohol and in my opinion drunk people are not the best at being socially distant!

    • I can’t believe it’s August either, it arrived so fast. I was hesitant with the outdoor dining for the same reason, too many people so I was glad to find a quiet spot.
      Happy reading this week!

  7. This year is flying by. With any luck, 2020 will take all its cooties with it and we will be able to enjoy some sense of normal life again soon.

Outdoor dining here can be crowded. It depends on where you go. But, restaurants are being very careful and providing a good amount of distance between tables. We also have indoor dining now, which is even more spaced out.

The thing I don’t get is large gatherings. Even outdoors they don’t make sense right now.

Derailed and Stay both look great. Love the color of that sweater. It would look good with warm or cool colors.

Hope you have a nice week.

    • ugh yes 2020 needs to go!
Outdoor dining looks crowded in some places and some people think large gatherings are fine right now. We don’t have indoor dining here yet and the governor is rolling back a bit on the amount of people allowed indoors now.

Have a good week too and happy reading.

  8. OMG that cat couch is so cute and funny! I had not heard about those but that’s just too fun. I think Otis definitely deserves his own little couch. Look forward to seeing your summer cardigan too. I’m still working from home too (thank goodness) and have not ventured out to outdoor dining. Texas is not doing well with our numbers so just trying to do my part to stay home. And, way to go on that tweet from Lisa Jewell. Love it! Hope you have a great week ahead!

  9. I have found time confusing this year — too fast and not fast enough.
Oh, I love the couch! Our rat terrier, Princess, likes to sit in the Elmo child seat. I bet Otis would love the couch.
Derailed sounds really good. Happy Reading!
