Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 3/14/2021: Long time no see.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hi everybody. It’s me. 🙂
How are you? Hope you are doing well.
So, I have not blogged since last November. If you are reading this thank you for stopping in. I have missed blog land but took an unexpected break. This past week was my one year anniversary of working from home since quarantine began in 2020. Surreal. It has been a crazy year but I am very grateful and feel blessed. As hard as some of the past year has been it has also been a time to stop and appreciate your blessings and remember what is most important, your family and loved ones and your health.

My reason for being away is #1. Work. I work 50+ hours a week from home, usually 10 hour days and sitting at a computer like that for so long leaves ZERO time or energy for blogging. It has been a year of working this way. So when I’m not working I do not want to be anywhere near the computer. #2. I went into a book slump and had no bookish updates to share. The last book I read was in October 2020. Then I got book mail from a publisher last month and I took that as a sign. I finally read my first book of 2021 last weekend and I read the whole thing in pretty much one sitting. My review is ready to post for April closer to the publication date. The book is called Her Three Lives by Cate Holahan and I am happy to share my thoughts on it next month.

Also, THANK YOU to my blog friends who reached out to me either by commenting here at my blog or through DM’s, Twitter, email. I appreciate your checking on me since I went MIA around here. I’ll be blog hopping today.

More updates below…..

In my mailbox:

My Dear Miss Dupré (American Royalty) by Grace Hitchcock arrived via Bethany House. I ordered a copy of Later by Stephen King. And Her Three Lives by Cate Holahan came via Meryl Moss Media. I read this one already and my review will go live early April.

coming soon:

I’m finally reading Stillhouse Lake by by Rachel Caine and it’s very good so far. I will be sharing my thoughts once I’m finished.

watching:
So many things. I recommend Bridgerton, Jodi Arias: An American Murder Mystery and the Night Stalker: The hunt for a serial killer. What have you been watching that you recommend?

crochet:
I have been crocheting alot. Here are a few of the things I’ve made these past few months, I will share a few more next week:

That covers my updates. Thank you for stopping in. I will start blog hopping this morning to catch up a little. I feel like I’m out of the loop book-wise. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone is doing/reading and I know I will be adding to my TBR as soon as I start blog hopping. Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Hi Naida,

It is great to have you back in Blogland and I hope that all is well with you and yours.

DG has also been working from home for a full 12 months now and like yourself he is finding that he is working many more hours than when he was in the office, although he is so much more relaxed being able to catch up on paperwork at the end of the day when everyone else has logged off, so he doesn’t mind the additional hours. No sign of him being called back into the office in the foreseeable future and I think that given a choice, he will probably opt for working at home permanently if at all possible.

I haven’t so much as picked up a crochet hook since lockdown began last March, so I shall be polling friends and family to see if anyone would like some of the mountain of wool I have around the place. I actually haven’t missed it much, although I do aim to try and cut back on my blogging, so I might have a bit more incentive to start again. I really like your Afghan throw, the colours are just so cozy looking.

I also like the sound of both your thrillers, with Rachel Caine and Cate Holahan being new to me authors. I am trying to add only books to my list, which I know I can schedule for review, but the odd few hundred are sneaking their way on board, and that might just have to include both of these 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you are enjoying getting back into your reading.

    Take care, Yvonne 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne. Yes, working from home you out so many more hours in but I’d rather be home anyway.
Crochet has been a great creative outlet and helps me focus especially now. I’ve completed so many projects lately.
I’m happy to have found a few good thrillers now and my book slump is over. There’s not enough time in one lifetime to read all the books you want to.
Thank you and stay well. 🙂

  2. Your crafts are adorable. I so understand the working from home- away from computer thing. Not much changed for me as I have worked for myself at home for over six years, but my husband is working from home too and has been for over a year.

Glad you are reading again. Audiobooks saved me. Hope this week is amazing!

  3. Welcome back! I was in a slump for most of last year too- I hardly read anything even though I was home so much more! I’m glad you’re coming out of yours though. And wow- that IS a lot of hours!

I like the look of stillhouse Lake and Later. Hope your reading is going great! 🙂

    • lol I can’t imagine anyone enjoying 10 hour workdays. I like my job, it’s being home that makes me work such long hours since work is right here always.
      Happy reading this week.

      • I could literally do my job all day, every day. 10 hours, 12 hours, 14 hours. But alas, I’m an hourly employee so that would not be allowed.

  4. OOh the ‘Night Stalker’ was such a gripping but terrifying documentary! The blanket you crocheted looks beautiful and the pupper looks very comfy in his little sweater 😀 I hope you enjoy all your new reads! I hope you have a lovely week and do drop by my Mailbox Monday if you have the time! – Juli @ A Universe in Words

    • Oh my gosh, the Night Stalker freaked me out! Wasn’t it so shocking? I had heard of him but didn’t know the whole story or how he was finally caught.
Thanks, I will stop by your blog! Happy reading this week 🙂

  7. I am so glad to see you posting again! I understand what you mean about not wanting to be on the computer after being on it for work all day long. I’ve found that to be true for me too many days than not. I am glad to hear you are reading again. I look forward to your review of Her Three Lives. Bridgerton was so much fun, wasn’t it? I look forward to the second season.

I hope you are having a great week, Naida.

  8. So glad to see an update from you and glad it was just work keeping you away. Well, sorry your work has been crazy but you know what I mean 🙂
I think with all of us who’ve gone remote the lines between work and life have really blurred. I know I’ve felt like I have to be “on” all the time and it is tiring. Hopefully we are closer to the end of this pandemic but we’ll see. Somedays I’m hopeful but others not so much. And, love all of your crocheted creations – the mask wearing bear is adorable!

  9. Naida, I thought I had commented on this post previously, even though I haven’t been visiting blogs much. I especially love the pic of Otis in his new purple sweater. Have a great week!
