Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 3/28/2021: Updates and Spring is in The Air

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday, hope you are well. It’s been a beautiful week here in Jersey with Spring officially making its appearance. We’ve been taking our daily walks and enjoying the nice weather in the mid- 60’s and high 70’s some days with it still brisk in the mornings and evenings. That’s Otis in the photo enjoying the view on one of our walks by the lake last weekend.

A few things have changed since my last Sunday update. I got notice we are not back due to the office now until May so more employees can hopefully get vaccinated in the meantime. SIGH OF RELIEF. I am so grateful. And I finally was able to book my vaccine appointments! My first dose is this upcoming Wednesday. Wish me luck. This means I will be fully vaccinated by the time I go back to the office building in May. How do you feel about the vaccine? Are you getting it or passing on it?

Onto more updates below
….
In my mailbox:

Red Deception by Gary Grossman arrived via BookTrib/MeryMoss Media.

Author Ivy Keating sent me a copy of her latest Sarana and the Dark King

Currently reading:

I’m finishing up Puppy Kisses by Lucy Gilmore which was provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca. I tried to finish this one and review it last week but my thoughts will be up this week.

Watching: I watched Into the Wild which was sad but also inspiring. I teared up more than once and I ended up ordering the book Into the Wild based on Chris McCandless’ story. Have you seen the film or read this one?

Crochet: Here is an “Inauguration Bernie” I crocheted a few months back. Bernie and his mittens went viral and so did this crochet pattern. I ordered pliable crafting wire for his glasses and my daughter shaped them for me.

That covers this week’s updates. What are you up to lately? Stay well and enjoy your reading this week.

  1. Otis & Crochet Bernie ♥♥ Love!

It’s so great that you’ll be vaccinated before heading back to the office. My first shot is scheduled for early May. Appointments just opened up for everyone here, and that’s the earliest I could get. I’ll take it!

  2. Hi Naida,

Hubbie too, had notice that he will be due back in the office soon, at least part hybrid working! They originally said during April, although he wasn’t at all happy about that and we have since discovered legislation which sites May/June and possibly even July, as the recommended return dates, so he is going to hold out for as long as possible. This was all even more ironic because he actually works for a government department, who obviously haven’t read their own employer guidance! We should both be fully vaccinated by the end of May, although they are now planning for a winter booster jab for the elderly and vulnerable.

The weather had begun to ring the bells of spring, however today is very cold, wet & windy and we are bundled up indoors with the heating on. We are due a couple of very warm days midweek, although the temperatures dip down again for Easter weekend – Do you have any plans for the Easter break? We are allowed up to 6 people from 2 households outdoors, but I don’t think it is going to be warm enough for that!

‘Red Deception’ sounds like a really good book and whilst I couldn’t read political thrillers on too regular a basis, they are good every once in a while. The authors are new names to me, but I am going to check out some of their other titles too, so thanks for sharing and I hope that you enjoy.

The ‘Bernie’ crochet looks amazing, we did notice the mittens during the televised inauguration and couldn’t help comparing Bernie to one of our own politicians, Michael Foot, who was around a few years ago and was leader of the Labour (Democratic) Party for a very short time. He always looked rather like an unmade bed and made an excellent ‘Spitting Image’ caricature!!

Lovely post and I hope that you have some nice things planned for the coming week 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, July would be much better. That’s great you’ll both be fully vaccinated by May. A booster shot for the Winter is a good idea also.

Today it’s cool and very rainy so it’s nice for staying inside and reading. They’ve eased up restrictions here but many people don’t follow the rules anyway and still gather as much as they want. The state of Texas has gone back to pre-covid times and you can go maskless there and back to business as usual.
I’ll be cooking Easter dinner and we’ll be home just us this year again.

Red Deception looks interesting so I’m curious to read it. I had from crocheting the Inauguration Bernie. I looked up Michael Foot! I hadn’t heard of him before.
Thanks for stopping in and enjoy your week!

  3. Oh my goodness your Bernie is adorable! That is great news that you’ll be able to get your vaccine before going back to the office. It is a big relief. I just got my first does yesterday. Sore arm but just glad to be making progress. I just hope that these vaccines not only become more widely available here but also around the world so we can end this pandemic. Hope you have a great week ahead!

  4. Good that nice warm weather has come your way. Great about the vaccine for you, we won’t get it to much later in NZ until later in the year but I will certainly get it for sure when it is available. My word that crochet Bernie sure is fun and adorable, no wonder it was so popular. Cute dog book, I am about to start a doggie book too.

  5. Good luck with the vaccine! I’m so heartened to see that more and more people are able to get it even though I know there are still distribution issues. And I’m glad too your workplace is doing that. Kudos to all the workplaces trying to do the right thing like that.

It’s been feeling like spring around here too, which has been nice. Hope your nice weather continues. 🙂

  6. It looks like Otis enjoyed his lake-side walk! And yay for being able to work from home a bit longer. Although vaccinations are slow here, I’m definitely getting it as soon as I can! I miss seeing my family 😦 I love the crocheted Bernie and the cover of Puppy Kisses is just.too.much! I hope you have a lovely week and do drop by my Monday post if you have the time! – Juli @ A Universe in Words

  7. I’m scheduled for the vaccine this Thursday. Not sure which one as they don’t say on the website in my area. Bernie made me LOL! Enjoy your reading and have a lovely Easter week.

  9. Congrats on the vaccine appointments. We have another few weeks before we’re eligible here, so I have to wait but my parents and disabled brother are all set. Thank goodness.

Into the Wild was tough to watch without crying. It was a good movie though.

I absolutely love that crocheted Bernie.

    • Thanks Serena and that’s great your parents and brother got their vaccines. I got my first dose last week and my husband is getting his this upcoming week.
Oh my gosh Into the Wild had me in tears. I’m looking forward to reading the book.
Happy Easter to you and your family!
