The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….
Happy Sunday everyone. I hope this post finds you well. How is October flying by so fast? Fall is definitely in the air, it’s 55 degrees here today. I’m enjoying my Starbucks hot chocolate and toasted croissant as I type this.
It’s been a very busy last couple of weeks. I wanted to blog last week but just could not make any time for it and last Sunday I was bedridden with a migraine from the morning into the late evening. I think that was my body’s way of telling me I needed a break. I also put in 5 hours of community service at a church this past week packing bags of food for those in need then helping distribute them. It feels nice helping out and I do this once a year. Although it’s a drop in the bucket compared to those who volunteer on a regular basis or those who run these charities…they do so much. We packaged and handed out a little over 100 bags of food to people last Tuesday.
And to top if off, my step-father surgery last week so it’s been a week of hospital visits since he was admitted for 7 days. He’s okay, recovering at home now from a complicated gall bladder surgery and we’ve been helping my mom with things while he gets better. Needless to say I’ve been physically and mentally exhausted these few weeks and my reading time has been put on the back-burner unfortunately. I hope this upcoming week will be easier and less stressful.

On another note, Otis’ Halloween costume arrived a few weeks ago so I’ll be sharing pics next updates post 🙂 Can you guess what he will be? Hint: the first film came out in 1977.
onto my bookish updates…..
in my mailbox:

A copy of Our Trespasses: A Paranormal Thriller by Michael Cordell came via the author for a November review. This sounds like a good one, I like the paranormal twist.
coming soon:

I’m behind on my reviews but I’m aiming to get my thoughts on Simple Tryst of Fate: Some Rules are Meant to be Broken by D.M. Barr up this week.
watching:

We’ve been watching the new season of You on Netflix which is really good. Also, I re-watched Alias Grace on Netflix which was worth the re-watch. And we watched the very popular Squid Game. What are you watching?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
crochet:
I recently crocheted two sets of these, one for myself in grey and one for my daughter in blue. These are scarves with a matching ear warmer.

That wraps up my updates, thank you for stopping in. I’ll be blog hopping this week and catching up. Enjoy your weekend!

The scarves are lovely! And, looks like they are perfect for your temps right now! We are currently at 84 and supposed to reach 91 tomorrow. Goodness. Good wishes for your step-dad so he recovers fully. It’s so difficult to see our loved ones sick. I can’t wait to see pictures of Otis in his Halloween costume! Hope you have a great week!

Yes, I like the cooler Fall temps but I wish it could stay this way though and not get colder.

Spring is finally coming to say hi a bit more here in SA at the moment. Yea! I’m not a wintery person.
I love that scarf and ear warmers you’ve crochet! How gorgeous!
I couldn’t get into the book You, but maybe I must watch the series on Netflix. It sure seems to be very popular.
Have a good week ahead!

Thanks. I can’t do both at once unless I’m listening to an audio book.

I hope that life slows down for you a little over the coming weeks and at least gives you the opportunity to recharge your batteries a little!
I hope that your step-father is now well on the road to recovery and that your mum is able to cope with his day to day needs without too much help. Over here we are still not able to visit hospital patients and if you have a scheduled appointment, or are taken into A & E, you can only accompany the patient if they have mobility or communication issues and need extra help.
I very rarely watch television these days, although Dave will watch a film to help him relax at the end of a long shift at work. I have tried to sit with him a few times, whilst working on my crochet blankets and Afghans, but there is generally so much posting or reading to get through for the blog, that nothing really goes to plan. I had thought that Blogland had become a little less stressy for me, but that just isn’t the case, so another more radical rethink is probably on the cards soon!
I have been making blankets of varying sizes, both crocheted and knitted, for a charity called The Linus Project. They distribute them to neo-natal units, women’s refuges, the homeless charities and as comfort blankets for hospices and funeral directors. At least it feels as though I am doing something worthwhile.
It has been great to catch up with you and I hope that this coming weekend is peaceful and relaxing for you 🙂
