Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 12/27/2021: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Updates

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello all. It’s Monday evening after work now instead of Sunday so my updates are a little late this week. I meant to log in yesterday and get this post ready but was just relaxing. I hope you had a Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and hope you are all doing well. We had a nice quiet Christmas at home. Otherwise, it’s been a busy month. My daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago which she is still healing from believe it or not due to a complication on one side with a dry socket. 😦 I’ve crocheted a lot, I’ve been reading and I’m behind on reviews so I have a few reviews I need to share.

I’m back to working fully remote rather than hybrid since mid-December and my job extended working fully remote through the end of January due to the surge in Covid cases. I cannot believe we’re pushing two years of this pandemic. Several of our friends have tested positive lately so it’s pretty scary. Thankfully, all of them have only had mild head cold like symptoms. I had my booster shot last week which went well aside from the arm pain and body aches, it wasn’t as strong as the full vaccine shots I had in the Spring.

Also, Happy Healthy New Year 🙂 Any plans for the New Year? I should have a yearly wrap up post next week. I didn’t read as much as I would have liked to in 2021 but it’s fun looking back on the reading/blogging year.

Onto my updates….

recently on the blog:

I shared my thoughts on Later by Stephen King which was fantastic.

I shared my thoughts on Your Words Your World by Louise Bélanger which was a nice poetry collection.

in my mailbox:
My daughter and I have been sitting down by the Christmas tree these past several weeks and reading in the evenings after work. These are our latest books below. We decided we would both read them so we can discuss. So far we’ve read 1984 which I’ll be reviewing soon and Later by Stephen King (not shown here). She’s ahead of me and read Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom already and she loved it.

Others in our book stack are I Am Legend by Matheson (which I read already so I don’t think I will re-read this one), We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, The Giver by Lois Lowry and The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Have you read any of these?

crochet:
I made these two hooded shawls and this ear warmer head/wrap this month. Both were on commission and they went under someone’s Christmas tree this year which is nice.

That wraps up my updates for now. Happy Holidays from Otis! We’ll be blog hopping tomorrow. Stay well!

  1. I have only ever had one wisdom tooth removed and that was done by the dentist who made a right bodge of it and gave me lockjaw. The military hospital removed all four of Dave’s teeth in one go and he was in agony for quite some time! I hope your daughter feels better in time for the New Year celebrations!

It is so good that your daughter shares your love of reading and is happy to read the same books alongside you. My MIL is about the only other reader on both sides of our family and she is very selective in the genre she reads, so we don’t often have too much to talk about.

Your commission pieces look amazing, so long as you don’t put yourself under too much time pressure to complete them. Your name will be getting known out there and pretty soon it will be similar to Blog Tours, you will end up by having a second job. You really are an expert at what you do and it’s a shame we don’t live a bit closer, or I would be setting you commissions too!

I hope that you enjoyed your Christmas celebrations and it’s good that you now get to work from home for a few more weeks at least 🙂 xx

  2. Hi Yvonne, oh my gosh lockjaw! That sounds horrible. Thank you, she is feeling better finally but is still healing.
I enjoy that we can read together and have been selecting the books together. I finally got her to read King and she enjoyed the book I picked…lol.

About the crochet, thank you. Those were the only commissions I took this month because it was worth it. With working full time I really don’t have the time to crochet for others so I don’t take many commissions, or I’d be spending all my free time doing that. And for these shawls, the buyer bought the yarn herself and dropped it all off at my house…which made it easier on me. You’d be amazed at how many friends and family expect me to crochet for them free of charge, large items also. I used to do it too, but I finally set some boundaries.

Yes, I’m grateful to be working on a hybrid schedule permanently and to be fully remote for the time being. It eases my mind some.
Happy New Year and happy reading! Stay well.

  3. I hope your daughter is all healed up soon! I remember having a dry socket when I had my wisdom teeth out many many years ago. It was no fun. I am glad you are a able to work remotely full-time right now, even if only temporarily. I don’t see any change for us in that direction, even temporarily. At least we have the hybrid schedule still. Fingers crossed it stays that way! We all got colds here and tested for COVID just in case. Luckily the tests came back negative.

Your shawls are beautiful, Naida. I like your model too. LOL

As always, my day is better with a photo of Otis. 🙂 I hope you have a great week and a Happy New Year!

  4. I’m glad you had a nice holiday and are staying safe. We were very quiet here. Otis doesn’t look excited and if you look at my post Lulu looks like Max from the Grinch! Your other crotchet model is very odd. lol I wish you a very happy New Year!

  5. Thank you, Otis didn’t know what to think of his Santa outfit lol. The crochet model is my daughter’s favorite vampire form The Vampire Diaries. I got her that cutout for her birthday and then we realized he’s the perfect crochet model lol.

    Happy New Year!
