Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 3/27/22: Library Book Sale, Crochet, etc.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello everyone and happy weekend. Thanks for stopping in, I hope this post finds you well. The past week flew right by. Work and life were busy as usual but I managed to get in a salon visit for a hair dye and trim, I finished up my crocheted Mickey Mouse which made me miss our Disney trip even more and we went to a library book sale this weekend.

On top of that poor Otis had to have a dental cleaning procedure done at the vet this past Friday and they pulled 2 of his teeth. I get nervous with that because he goes under anesthesia for it but he did well and he’s recovering nicely. Poor Otis has to pretty much spend the day at the vet for this procedure too. I dropped him off early before work at 8:30am and he was ready to be picked up at 4:00pm. He was definitely mad at me when we got back home from the vet, he didn’t want to look at me when I was speaking to him. I’m just glad we got that done and over with for his sake.

onto my updates…..

recently on the blog:

I shared my thoughts on the dust of hope: rune poems by Judy Croome.

in my mailbox:
We went to a library book sale this weekend and I found some great books all for $10.00.

I found The Silkworm first and I told myself I would only get it if I could find The Cukoo’s Calling as well. I found it on the other side of the room so I got both.

Bonfire was the first book I saw when we walked in so I grabbed it right away. I’ve heard good things about it. Have you read any of these?

watching these few weeks:

I watched The Weekend Away which was very good and had alot of twists and turns. I also watched Deep Water which I thought was good, you do have to suspend disbelief for it. And I finished up Pam and Tommy which I somehow got sucked into watching and ended up enjoying this one. I’m not sure how much of it was actually true but it’s definitely entertaining. It also shines a light on what Pam Anderson must have gone through when that sex tape was stolen and published without her consent.

crochet:
I finished my Mickey Mouse and I really like the way he turned out. I may have to make another one for my parents, they really like this one.

  1. Oh my goodness, you are so talented with crocheting! That Mickey is awesome!
I love a good book sale. I take forever poring over the titles so I don’t bring anyone along with me who would get impatient. I’ve heard of Bonfire; hope you enjoy it.

  3. yes we are doing what we can for Lulu and hope she won’t have to have any teeth pulled. I love your Mickey Mouse! I love those library sales but I’m trying to avoid print books these days. I already have many, many.

    • Thank you, I know I have so many books at home I shouldn’t bring in any new ones either. I have a stack on the side I’m going to donate to the library. Happy reading this week.

  4. Otis is so cute. It is hard to leave our pups for vet work. Our Bear dog (mini dachshund) is suffering these last two days – we aren’t sure what happened. We plan to get him to the vet this week.
I love to get good picks at sales and library sales tend to be a good price.
Your Mickey looks great — Well done!
Have a good week and Happy Reading!

  5. I had to take my cat to the vet as well but thankfully it was just a routine check-in and we were in and out of there in 30 mins. He still wasn’t happy with me though xD I miss library sales, I’m going to see if there’s one around my city soon! I’ll have to show your crochet Micky to my housemate, she’s looking for a new crochet project! Have a lovely week 🙂

  6. It always amuses me when a pet dog refuses to acknowledge its owner when it is displeased about something. Dave needed dental work this last month and I am so pleased that he didn’t treat me like that afterwards, even though he was definitely expecting plenty of TLC 🙂

Seeing your Mickey, makes me miss our trips to Disney World even more, he is so amazing!

Our libraries tend to put a couple of sale trolleys outside once a week or so, although they never have quite as many books as this. Public funds are so short right now, that libraries are having to hold onto their books until they are practically falling to pieces from overuse. I am always amazed that they are then so picky over any offered donations of books, they really are so offhand about it that I have stopped bothering now and donate any books that I can’t give away to fellow reading friends and family, to either charity shops or the many roadside ‘telephone box libraries’ which have sprung up!

I have both those Robert Galbraith books on my shelves, but have yet to read either of them, in the same way that I haven’t watched either ‘The Weekend Away’ or ‘Deep Water’, which sounds really good!

The days fly by so quickly that I don’t seem to get anything done! 🙂

    • Ugh dental work is not fun for anybody lol
Thank you, I had fun making that Mickey. I may need to make a second one for my parents.
The library book sales I’ve gone to have had a lot to select from and through the years I’ve found some wonderful additions for my shelves. I found a beautiful 1960’s hardcover vintage edition of Gone With the Wind at the particular library sale years ago. This photos I shared here are from just one section of a roomful of books.
The libraries by me will have a sign up when they are taking book donations so that’s when I get a box full to drop off.
I can’t wait to read those Robert Galbraith books. And there’s never enough hours in the day. It’s hard to pick between reading or crocheting.
Enjoy your week and happy reading!

    • Thank you, Otis did bounce back thankfully.
Lol about his startled face. I had a hard time with getting his facial features just right. He’s such an iconic character.
      Happy reading this week.

  7. Poor Otis! Though thing to get through for sure, I’m glad he recovered well.

Bonfire has been on my list for a while but never got around to it. I read The Luckiest Girl Alive a while ago and I remember having a good time with it.

Have a great week and happy reading 🙂
