Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 8/21: Bookish Updates

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hi all, happy weekend. Thanks for your input last week on the annoying blog ads, I’m ad free now. Ahhhh much better. I had a nice relaxing week off and it’s the first time in years I’ve had a staycation for a week. I read 2 books this week and posted 3 reviews and it was nice getting back into the swing of blogging. I worked on my crochet projects and I took Otis to the groomer. It’s amazing what you can get accomplished when you’re not on any set work schedule. We wanted to drive out for the day to a favorite state park/mountain but it’s actually been closed since early August due to danger of brush fire from the dry heat we’ve been having most of this month. Hopefully we can make it out there in a few weeks.

onto my bookish updates…

recently on the blog:

I shared my thoughts on My Dearest Julia: The Wartime Letters of Ulysses S. Grant to His Wife.

I also reviewed:

Modern Crochet Style by Lindsey Newns

Anyone Can Crochet Amigurumi Animals by Kristi Simpson

coming soon:

I read The Thin Place by C D Major this week so my review will be up Tuesday.

And I read The Little House by the Sea (Pennystrand Village Book 1) this week so my review will be up soon also.

in my mailbox:

Not that I needed this but I treated my self to Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover. I’ve read a few of her books and always enjoy them.

watching:
I watched Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey and it turned my stomach so I had to fast forward some of it. I find cults fascinating though. Also, American Horror Stories which has been okay so far. A few of the episodes were a little meh. What have you been watching?

crochet:
Being off this past week meant more crochet time. I finished up these pumpkin stacks, one was on commission then I made a second one for my parents. The funny thing is I had all the materials I needed in my stash already so that was perfect lol. I had the idea in my head of how I wanted these to look and took it from there, I’m happy with the results. My SIL gifted me a bunch of cute handmade tags for my projects, I used some on these.

That wraps it up for now, thanks for stopping in. What are you up to? What are you reading? Enjoy your week!

  1. I love the photo of Otis, such a sweetie! Reminders of Him is wonderful, it’s so emotional and well written. It’s one of my favorite books of 2022. I hope you love it as much as I did.

  2. I love your pumpkins! They’re so cute! I also love that you review crochet books. I should do that. I need to get back in the habit of working on something, even if it’s only for 30 minutes, every day. 😀 Have a great week!

    • Thank you 🙂 I started reviewing crochet books once publishers started sending them to me. There’s rarely a day that goes by that I don’t crochet a little bit.
      Happy reading this week!

  3. Ahhh – staycations can be just the best! I’m looking forward to retirement in the next couple years and eager to have more time to do all the things I love! I added The Thin Place to my TBR – it looks totally intriguing. Thanks for the visit.

    • Staycationing was nice this past week 🙂 I’m sure you’re looking forward to retirement! My thoughts on The Thin Place will be up this Tuesday, it’s one of those books I had mixed feelings about.
      Happy reading this week!

  4. I love your pumpkin stacks! We were out and about doing our weekend job today and there were quite a few reminders of Halloween events around and about – I can’t believe that time has come around again already! — I love those cute labels too 🙂

Looking forward to reading your thoughts about ‘The Little House By The Sea’ my review goes live on Thursday 25th August as part of the Blog Tour.

I have a big stack of blankets to donate to the Linus Project and I am hoping to get started on some larger Afghan blankets I keep here for the winter months!!

Linus is a really worthwhile cause, although seeing what some of the ladies can achieve, I really wish I could quilt!

    Have a good week 🙂

    • Thank you, the pumpkins were fun to make. I feel like the summer is flying by so fast again as usual.
I enjoyed The Little House By The Sea, I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on it.
I’ve heard of the Linus project, it’s great when crafters donate to charity. I’m sure your blankets are cozy and appreciated. I used to crochet for charity but haven’t in a while. I’d make hats, blankets and booties for preemies at the hospital.
      Happy reading this week!

  5. I’m glad you had an enjoyable staycation. Sometimes that is what is really needed to relax and get to some things that require a little more time to start. Sometimes traveling I feel like we spend all our time finding places to eat, traveling, and setting up our place to stay and then packing up to go again. Yes you have to be careful about the heat for dogs, and also their paws if the road is too hot. Happy reading!

    • Yes, I love going away on vacation too but then I need a vacation after my vacation lol
I’ve been mainly taking Otis on car rides with me lately which he likes. Happy reading this week!

  6. Love the fall decor pics! And Otis is a cutie. I’ve been knitting baby blankets (gifts), listening to books and podcasts at the same time. We went to the local Irish Festival this weekend. Lots of fun and family there. I got too much sun for the first time in many years. Will be coping with that for a few days.
    Happy reading!

  7. I recently read Reminders of Him, and it was so good. Hope you enjoy it! The pumpkin stacks are sooo super cute. My daughter is obsessed with pumpkins. She has a nice sized pumpkin patch planted outside, and she’s already started stashing decorative pumpkins around our house for the fall. She says they should be year round decorations. LOL!

  8. So good to see your blog posts again. I have been a bit out of the loop on blogging most of the year so it’s nice to come back isn’t it? Otis is adorable as usual! The pumpkins you made are so pretty. Love seeing your projects. Ack, I really want to read the Colleen Hoover book but am on a goal to only read books in translation this month. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

    • Thanks Iliana, it is nice being back. I miss blog land but there’s never enough hours in the day.
Enjoy your books this month! I get more reading done also when I set personal goals like that.
