Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 9/4/22 : Hello September

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello all. Happy Sunday and happy 3 day weekend. I hope you’re doing well. Labor Day is tomorrow so yay for a Monday off work. 🙂

It’s been a long week that started off with an allergist appointment on Monday after work, where I had to wait nearly one hour in the waiting room just to be seen. I never understand why doctors overbook. I went to see my allergist because I keep breaking out in hives and can’t figure it out. Neither can the doctor at this time so he sent me for bloodwork which I had done yesterday morning and am waiting for the results but which may provide no answers. He did the skin patch test which didn’t tell us much other than I’m allergic to dust mites and cats and I don’t need a patch test to know that lol. In the meantime I have to take allergy meds daily for the next 2 weeks. On a nicer note, we’ve been having some really nice weather these few days and I can feel Fall around the corner, it’s already been cooler in the mornings and evenings which I love. I wish it was like this year round.

onto my bookish updates….

recently on the blog:

I shared my thoughts on:

The Little House by the Sea (Pennystrand Village Book 1) by Tracy Rees

The Thin Place by C.D. Major

coming soon:

I’m halfway through which is an interesting story about twin brothers with a psychic connection.

in my mailbox:

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth came via St. Martin’s Press.

Shifting and Shenanigans by Elizabeth Pantley came via Partners In Crime Book Tours.

Also in my mailbox, we visited a favorite used record shop/book store last weekend and I found an original hard cover edition of Christine by Stephen King.

This place usually has some good King books for decent prices and I was so happy to find this one for my King collection. I got that hard cover first edition copy of Misery on my shelves for $2 a few years ago at a library book sale. I love a good book find like that 🙂

watching:

I binged Bridgerton Season 2 last weekend. So good. I did think it could have been cut down one episode though, I felt like it started to drag on towards the end, but still so good. Also, all the scary things while crocheting so I’ve been watching my fav Halloween movies like the original Halloween and I’ve been making my way though films based on Stephen King books so I just re-watched The Dead Zone yesterday.

crochet:
I’ve been working on a Halloween blanket for my daughter. We’re designing it together and I’m almost done. I have about 5 more squares to make now and then I have to sew them together and crochet a border.

That covers my updates, for now. Thanks for stopping in. What have you been up to? Enjoy your week!

  1. Loving the crochet work, I am nowhere near organised enough to make an item on demand like that, especially to have it look so awesome with the 3D motifs.

I have been trying to stay away from bookshops and book sales, as I really don’t need anymore additions for my shelves – EVER! 🙂 In fact Dave was going through looking for a couple of specific books for a work activity and he suddenly realised just how bad my book addiction is, to the point where he counted them all, although I am not going to reveal that four digit number here – we have had a discussion about it! 🙂

After over 2 years and many vaccinations, we thought we had got away without catching COVID – but no! One of hubby’s kind clients had a face to face meeting with him, then text him the following day to say she had tested positive. He is now at the end of his 5 day isolation period, but I think I am a bit further behind. Not too aggressive thankfully, but not good either. I hope you get to the bottom of your allergy problems soon, this has been going on for some time now off and on, hasn’t it?

I have added the Sally Hepworth book to my ‘wish list’, it sounds really good and I hope you enjoy it.

    Happy Sunday 🙂

    • Thanks Yvonne. I’m trying to get the Halloween blanket finished within the next week or two, the end is in sight finally lol. If I work on the same project for too long, I get the crochet equivalent of a book slump and I lose crochet motivation.

I can imagine your library! He counted them lol! Well, books are enjoyable beautiful items to collect so it’s a good thing. 🙂

I’m sorry about the Covid thing and hope you’re both feeling better soon, glad to hear you’re towards the end of it. Yes, my allergies have been going on for a while so it’s nothing new unfortunately 😦
Have a nice week and enjoy your books!

  2. I hope you are able to get some answers from the doctor. It’s so frustrating when tests don’t point to a cause–but you know it’s something! That’s a ridiculous amount of time to wait. Hopefully you had a book with you to keep you company. Shifting and Shenanigans looks right up my alley. I am glad you enjoyed the second season of Bridgerton. It’s such a fun show. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reading!

  3. I’m sorry about the allergies. I have taken Allegra daily for 20 years now. It’s worth almost never having problems. Dust, mold, pollens and cats are my worst. I hope you feel better. The Halloween blanket looks fun. My daughter and I have talked about seasonal quilts in a similar vein. I’m glad to hear it is getting cooler. I want that.

  4. The crochet pieces are all so neat! Love the puppy peeking from behind that table too. I have some original hardcovers from VC Andrews, and maybe one from Stephen King. They are always so neat to find! I always seem to wait a long time for my doctor too. With my new doctor, I know it is partly because she takes the time to listen. So I try to be a little more patient about that. Anyway, hope you have a good week!

  5. That’s going to be one terrific crocheted blanket! I just picked it up this year and having fun with it, but keep getting distracted by other projects! I have the Hepworth book too and hope to get to it in the next few weeks. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  6. I hope you can figure out what is going on with your allergies soon. Sorry to hear you had to wait and do more tests to hopefully get an answer.

The Soulmate sounds interesting to me.

And that crochet blanket will be amazing! Loving all the different squares and colors, I would love to see a picture of the finished project.

    Have a great week!

    • Thank you 🙂 I really shouldn’t be complaining about the wait at the doctors office.
I can’t wait to read The Soulmate. I’ll be posting pics of the finished blanket soon.
      Happy reading this week!

  7. I hope you enjoy the Hepworth book. I’m looking forward to reading it as well. I also hope the allergy mystery is solved soon (and easily). Seems allergies are worse in my area this year. A good freeze will help but we’re a ways off from that.

  8. Hope you are enjoying the day off! I can’t wait to see the end result of the blanket – I’m sure it’s going to look awesome! And, hope you hear good news from your doctor on what’s causing the hives! Hope it’s a great week ahead and lots of good books.

  9. Oh, hives are annoying and distressing. I hope you get relief.
