Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 9/19/21: Reading, Crochet etc.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday all. What an absolutely gorgeous weekend we are having here, the weather is perfect…sunny and high 70’s. I was going to get this post up earlier but we ran a few errands this morning and then I was out enjoying the weather afterwards.

This past week flew by so fast. It was a good week, I met my work deadlines, I got a yearly doctor’s visit out of the way on Monday morning and I got my flu shot over with also. After the side effects from the Covid vax over the Spring, the flu shot was a piece of cake lol.

Onto my weekly updates…..

recently on the blog:

I did a Top Ten Tuesday after so long. The topic was Books With Numbers In the Title.

in my mailbox:

I have a great mailbox this week and can’t wait to read these.

I am beyond excited about cuddling up in bed at night with my hot coco while reading Where They Wait by Scott Carson. This came via NetGalley/Atria Books It’s about a haunted sleep meditation app, what a great idea for a scary book.

I also received Simple Tryst of Fate: Some Rules are Meant to be Broken by D.M. Barr via Book Sirens which looks good.
crochet:
Here are a few photos of one of my latest projects. This is Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. This was a fun pattern I found on ETSY from a crochet designer. I don’t usually follow other people’s patterns since I make my own, but this one caught my eye and I’m glad I found it.

The smaller one went to an Aunt who asked me for one.

Well, that wraps up my weekly updates. What are you doing? What are you reading? Enjoy your week! Thank you for stopping in 🙂

Hello and happy weekend. I hope this post finds you well. This week flew right by. It’s because I was off work and enjoying myself. I managed to read and review two books while I was off. I even changed my blog header and profile pic to match with flower photos I took myself.
I also made time to bake homemade chocolate chip cookies for my daughter to bring to her co-workers last week. She got me the Ghost Adventures potholder for Mother’s Day this year. It’s one of our shows we like to watch together. It says “there are things in this kitchen you will never understand”. 🙂

Onto more bookish updates…

Recently on the blog:
Since I was off work for two weeks I had time to actually blog and read two books. Both were NetGalley books so win win with chipping away at my shelf there.

Neon Gods: A Scorchingly Hot Modern Retelling of Hades and Persephone (Dark Olympus Book 1) by Katee Robert

Knit of the Living Dead (A Knit and Nibble Mystery Book 6) by Peggy Ehrhart
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also of note, there’s still time to enter the giveaway of Sarana and the Dark King by Ivy Keating and a $10 Amazon E-Gift Card. Follow the link for details.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In My Mailbox: (both from Amazon Prime reads)

After having read and enjoying Knit of the Living Dead I grabbed a copy of the first book in the series, Murder, She Knit (A Knit and Nibble Mystery Book 1).

The Haunting of Brynn Wilder by Wendy Webb

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Watching:
I think I turned on the tv maybe twice this week since I was off and spent my time reading instead or being outdoors. We did watch the new episode of the new AHS season on Thursday night, which is really good. I like the New England setting.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Crochet:
I’ll post pics next week. Hint: It’s Nightmare Before Christmas related.

I’ll close with a few pics of our day trip to the sunflower maze and antiquing this past week.

We found an old church that has been turned into an antiques shop, both cool and creepy. I just KNOW there’s paranormal activity there at night.

This painting of E.A.P. instantly caught my eye, it’s beautiful.

The sunflower fields. It was a beautiful sunny day for it and the drive out there is scenic. There was plenty of room to maintain social distancing so we felt comfortable.

That’s all for now. Enjoy your week ahead and happy reading. Let me know in the comments what you’re up to.

Happy weekend and happy September, I love this time of year. I’ve been enjoying some time off work these two weeks and taking a few day trips. We had originally booked a few days away in Pennsylvania but Hurricane Ida rolled into our area on Wednesday night so we had to cancel those plans last minute.
We’re grateful all we had was heavy rain and winds by us because some of the surrounding areas got hit pretty bad.

crochet:
I’ve been making shawls these past few weeks. I discovered my daughter’s Damon Salvatore cardboard cutout makes an easy model….lol

I swear at first glance he looks real. Am I right? Our dogs think so, they won’t stop barking at it when we bring it out.

Hello and happy weekend. I hope you are doing well. I haven’t been on blog-land as much as I would like to. I like to use up most of my vacation time during the Summer and Fall months so I end up taking 5 day extended weekends which has been nice. We’ve taken a few day trips here and there including a recent trip into NYC. It was our first time in the city since the pandemic began. I’ll include a few photos at the end of the post.
I also have some exciting bookish news to share. Author Ivy Keating has generously offered to do a giveaway here on my blog. The giveaway post will be up on Monday September 6th. Please come back for that you won’t want to miss out. There will be 2 winners. If you are a regular here at my blog you might remember I reviewed Ivy’s book Sarana and the Dark King this past June.

onto more updates….

coming soon:
I finally finished reading The Bookshop Murder by Merryn Allingham so my thoughts will be up this week.

in my mailbox:
Ivy Keating kindly sent me hard copies of both her books Camouflauge and Sarana and the Dark King, as well as bookmarks and pens. How nice is that 🙂 I’ve happily added these two to my book collection. As I mentioned, please stop in on September 6th for the upcoming giveaway details.

crochet:
I have several projects I want to share and here is one I finished up this summer, a tank top for my daughter.

That wraps up my updates for now. What have you been up to? How is your summer going? Thanks for stopping in, I’ll close with a few NYC pics.

We recently went to the new Harry Potter store in New York. There’s a virtual que you wait on and the wait was a little over 3 hours to get in but it gave us plenty of time to walk around NYC and have a nice lunch outdoors. They text you when it’s your turn to enter the store.

The empire State Building in the pic above.

This is inside the store.

Here I am. It’s me. I love this cool archway of books in the store.

My house is Slytherin, here are a few of the souvenirs I came home with. Among my souvenirs is Snape’s wand. I couldn’t help myself. Then I was inspired to crochet Otis a little blanket in Slytherin house colors.
Otis says enjoy your week and tell us what you’ve been up to.

Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 7/11/2021: Summertime Updates

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Hello all and happy weekend. I haven’t posted an updates post since May and time is flying as usual. I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer. Summer tends to get busy for us because both my kids and my husband have birthdays back to back, and it seems like each weekend we have plans, then we try to fit in a vacation trip as well. I can’t complain, I love the summer months and enjoying the sunshine as much as I can.

Maybe TMI but in the midst of being busy with work and family these past few months, I had to have a root canal. A painful complicated one that involved two one and a half hour long visits to a specialist who gave me THREE shots of Novocain per visit, a round of antibiotics and prescription painkillers which after taking just one pill I decided to stick to Advil forever. I’m glad it’s over and done with and I hope to never have to go through that again in this lifetime or the next.

Anyway, on a good note, work announced the hybrid schedule is permanent so I am happy about that. It’s great working from home a few days a week then driving into the office a few days. I’m finding it a nice balance.

And I was finally away on vacation recently doing alot of this which was very relaxing:

Onto my bookish updates…..

recently on the blog:

I shared my thoughts on Sarana and the Dark King by Ivy Keating.

I reviewed The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah.

In my mailbox:

After loving The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah I ordered The Great Alone by the same author.

I received The Bookshop Murder by Merryn Allingham via Bookouture, The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews via St. Martin’s Press and Neon Gods by Katee Robert via Sourcebooks Casablanca.

I purchased The Power by by Naomi Alderman and this fun bookish tote at the coziest little Indie bookstore I found while on vacation. It was a little book cabin and the owner was very nice.

crochet
I crocheted a coffee cup coaster and cozie for my cubicle.

I finished up my son’s blanket. I made this for him as one of his birthday gifts in May.

watching:
We watched all 3 Thor movies and are watching the Avengers films next so we can watch the new Loki series. Have you watched any of these?

That wraps up my updates, what are you up to? What are you reading? Otis says enjoy your weekend and stay safe 🙂
