Hello and happy Tuesday. This past weekend was booked with my father in law’s 80th birthday party on Saturday then the yearly company picnic on Sunday so I didn’t get a chance to type up my Sunday updates post but I did manage to sneak in this teaser today.

needful

I took a break from re-reading Needful Things recently because I wanted to get to Meltdown and post my thoughts on it which I did. Now I am back to reading King and here is a snippet:

“At least she had not kept the baby out of spite or defiance; no one could hang that on her. She found herself surprised by love, that simplest, strongest, and most unforgiving of all emotions.

She had moved on. No-they had moved on. She had worked a number of menial jobs, and they had ended up in San Francisco, where she had probably intended to go all along. In that early summer of 1971 it had been a kind of hippie Xanadu, a hilly headshop full of freaks and folkies and yippies and bands with names like Moby Grape and the Thirteenth Floor Elevators.”

p.230, Needful Things

I googled headshop since I hadn’t heard that term before.

Enjoy your week. what are you reading? Share a snippet in the comments if you’d like. xo

This week’s teaser is from Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances by Neil Gaiman which is really good so far.  This teaser is a actually a snippet from the introduction by the author.

And I think of us, all the people, and the masks we wear, the masks we hide behind and the masks that reveal. I imagine people pretending to be what they truly are, and discovering that other people are so much more and so much less than they imagined themselves to be or present themselves as. And then, I think about the need to help others, and how we mask ourselves to do it, and how unmasking makes us vulnerable…

We are all wearing masks. That is what makes us interesting.

-Neil Gaiman

He’s right about us all wearing masks and how letting down those walls and taking off those masks makes us vulnerable. What do you think?

Speaking of Neil Gaiman, I found this site via his, All Hallow’s Read and I really like the idea of giving someone a scary book on Halloween. And on another note I had no idea Gaiman was from the U.K. I was surprised to hear the accent on the clip on the Hallow’s Read site. I like it!

Enjoy your week!

Really Random Tuesday Photography, Vacation, etc. and a Teaser

ReallyRandomTuesday

Appearing on random Tuesdays, Really Random Tuesday is a way to post odds and ends–announcements, musings, quotes, photos–any blogging and book-related things you can think of. I often announce my book giveaway winners in these posts….The lovely Suko hosts RRT.

I know I always say this, but where does the time go? August is here so soon it seems. That means that September is just around the corner, and along with that all the back to school run around that comes along with that time of the year.

I was on vacation for a few weeks which has been really nice. There is something to be said about not really sticking to the clock or to any schedule.
While at the lake a few weeks ago, I could not get enough of the sky and clouds and took my Canon with me pretty much everywhere I went. The images below are all unedited, you can click on them to get a larger view if you’d like.

Hubby is a good sport and woke up at 5:30am with me to take photos of the sun rising on the lake. I would tan and read sitting in those Adirondack chairs.
