Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week’s TTT topic is Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books
1. Book Blogging. First on my list, not so outrageous but definitely a labor of love. Running a book blog takes time and effort as you well know if you are reading this.
2. Accepting Books for Review. This goes hand in hand with #1 on my list. I love getting review books and am honored when I receive them from the publishers and authors but it is again, a labor of love. And it’s alot of work especially when you have review deadlines to meet. Just count the hours you take reading a book then add the time spent reviewing and sharing it on social media.
3. I once had my husband drive me from the airport directly to the bookstore so I could pick up my copy of the latest Harry Potter installment which I pre-ordered. I can’t remember if it was the last book in the series, but it was being released the day we flew back in from vacation and I didn’t want to go home without my copy. I needed to know if Snape was good or evil, I remember that because my book came with a free bumper sticker that said “Snape is Good”. Hubs double parked so I could run in and grab my book. He’s a keeper.
4. Collect Books even though I don’t have room for all of them. I’m being kind to myself and using the word “collect” instead of “hoard”.
5. Read all day. I’ve done read-a-thons before and you basically read all day as much as you can.
6. Photographing Books. Not too outrageous, but I enjoy taking pictures of books. Enough so that I tend to bring books along with me if we are going to the park or for a drive just in case I find a nice spot to snap a book picture for my Instagram or Blog posts later.
7. Purchase books that I know I won’t read anytime soon. I do this all the time. This goes hand in hand with #4.
8. Definitely fan-girly, I’ve written to Dean Koontz and mailed him a crocheted stuffed animal that I made for him with a note saying how I loved The Taking. He responded with a personally autographed hard copy of The Taking so that was beyond awesome. The inscription reads: “To Naida, this hopeful little end of the world story!” I tell this story to all who will listen. Also, do you see how crochet is magical?
9. Gone to see book to film adaptations when I should have known better. When Twilight (don’t judge me) was popular, I’d read the books with my girlfriends and as the films came out, we’d go and watch them. Waiting on a long line to get in, then sitting in a crowded theater with a bunch of teeny boppers screaming basically every time Edward or Jacob made an appearance on-screen was definitely annoying.
10. Talk and talk and talk about books and analyze books. I can talk all day with another bookworm. This is not outrageous, but I am so that person who loves recommending books and who when watching any kind of book to film adaptation will always be like “in the book this happens this way actually…”. It causes alot of eye rolling with the non-readers.
Those are a few of the things I’ve done for the love of books. What about you?

The photos in this post are my own and not to be removed from here.
I can’t think of anything I’ve done that’s really outrageous. My husband might disagree, since he’s usually the one that drives me places and keeps me company.

Loved reading 3,4,6,7,&8! I remember when we lived in the apt in SF both my husband and I were reading HP at the same time. You collecting books even though you don’t have room and will read them later on is like us knitters buy yarn where we hoard the “special ones” and store them any way we can. That was a cool story about Dean Koontz. What amigurumi did you hook up for him?

That’s fun that you both read HP at the same time. I also hoard yarn lol. I made him an elephant.
Enjoy your weekend! Happy knitting and reading.

A very cool list. It is good that you cannot included starting and maintaining a book blog. It really does take time and work. The Dean Koontz story is really neat. Analyzing books is one of the great joys of life.

Hi Brian, yes, you know firsthand maintaining a blog is alot of work. I enjoy it though, it’s such a fun way to discuss books etc. Like you say, analyzing books is a wonderful thing. Thanks for stopping in!

Love the signed book from Dean Koontz! Such a fun post! I haven’t done anything really crazy, but I have acquired a “little house” full of books. 🙂

Hi Naida,
I can relate to about half of your list – let’s see! … numbers 1 2 3 4 7 and 10 are all recognizable traits in both myself and this long-suffering ‘hubbie’ character we keep talking about 🙂
I suppose the only thing I might add, is getting up at 4.30am to publish a post if I simply ran out of time the night before, or if I am trying to link with a US administered meme, where the links generally become available at midnight US time, which would make it the early hours of the morning for us Brits!
Hubbie never generally even knows I have got up so early, but I know he knows I do – and he never complains, he just worries about the commitment of running a blog and taking part in Blog Tours or promotions etc.
What a great subject for a post, although I would definitely never go as far as sending gifts to an author, no matter how much I like their books!
Take Care and Happy Reading 🙂

Hi Yvonne, lol I feel like the husbands just go along with it.
I can relate to logging on before work or late at night to make sure I had a post scheduled. I did that often when I participated in alot of blog tours. It takes alot of time and effort to take part in those tours.
When I sent him the crocheted gift I didn’t ever imagine he’d reply so that was an amazing surprise.
Enjoy your week!

I love this subject..and really nothing is outrageous when it comes to books. I’ve owned the hardcover and been away from home and ordered the ebook simply because i needed to begin reading right then!
