Mailbox Monday: Book Acquisitions and Summertime Vibes

mm

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Hello all and happy Monday. I hope you are all doing well. I have been missing from blogland for about a month and I definitely missed it. Blogging took a backseat as the warm weather rolled in and although I haven’t been visiting blogland too much, I have gotten a few good books read. I figured a MM post would be a nice way to jump back in and post a few updates.

I’ve slowly been visiting my blog friends this past week and it has been nice catching up but I can’t go back and see all the missed posts for everyone. So if there is a must see review or announcement at your blog, please leave me the link in the comments here. I don’t want to miss it.

If you noticed the Michael Phelps pic up there, it is because I have been watching and enjoying the Rio Olympic Games. I’m not much of a sports fan, but when the Olympic games roll around, I am all in. My favorites are the swimmers and the gymnasts. Watching the games has also given me plenty of crochet time as well.
I’ve been working on this baby blanket for a friend.

As far as books go, these are my most recent additions….

Being a big HP fan, I had to grab a copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1 & 2, Special Rehearsal Edition Script.
The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

uda
Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta arrived via AmazonVine. I requested it in order to diversify my reading a bit.
Inspired by Nigeria’s folktales and its war, Under the Udala Trees is a deeply searching, powerful debut about the dangers of living and loving openly.

listen
Listen to Me by Hannah Pittard is another AmazonVine arrival. I’m hoping this one scares me.
A modern gothic about a marriage and road trip gone hauntingly awry…

That is all as far as books go. I do have a few reviews I am working on now as well.

While I was away from blogland, I went on vacation. I’ll leave you with a few photos.

These are my legs, not two hotdogs…lol. I spent alot of time doing this. Laying out in the sun by the lake.

At nights we’d hang out by the fire pit roasting marshmallows and just enjoying the conversation. My photo does not do the moon justice.

I brought my crochet project along with me and would work on it here and there. I took this pic on our cabin porch. Being so close to the water is a real treat. There’s a kitchen in the cabin and being able to whip up meals is very convenient.  It is our little home away from home.

This is the sun setting on the Adirondacks. There is a quiet beauty to this place. This was our fifth year vacationing at the same spot and we have many nice memories there. The week flew right on by.

That’s all for now. Thanks for stopping in. How is your summer going? What new books arrived at your doorstep?

  1. It is good to see you back again, Naida. 🙂 I am glad you have been reading. Summer weather here always wants me to stay inside. I imagine as the weather starts getting cooler, I’ll rather spend time outside. The blanket you are working on looks beautiful! That will be one lucky baby. 🙂

We’ve been watching the Olympic Games here too. Probably too much. My reading has definitely suffered.

I hope you enjoy Under the Udala Trees. I have a copy of that one to read too.

I love the photos you shared from your vacation. Sounds like you had a nice time. 🙂 We didn’t get away this summer, what with my husband’s new job, but we’ve gone on a few fun day trips.

I hope you have a great week, Naida!

  2. Sounds like a fantastic vacation! I love the views. And you got some great books in the mail. I hope you have a great rest of the summer. We’ve been very busy, but we managed to take a vacation this year.

  3. Naida, your photos are wonderful! I’m glad a chance to rest and relax. I have been reading but haven’t posted about a book since June. I do have a poetry collection on tap though, soon. Enjoy your week!

  4. Welcome back.

I have been spending a lot of time at the beach this year also.

I also need to diversify my reading a bit. Under the Udala Trees looks so very good. I think that I would like to read it.

  5. Reading lots about The Cursed Child and especially the debate that seems to be raging over whether or not two of its characters are ‘more than just food friends’.

I’d love to say I’ll be reading the books but alas not written in a format I enjoy I’ll be giving them a miss.

  6. Welcome back to blogland! So good to see you and hear that you had a great time. I can imagine just how peaceful your vacation must have been. It looks lovely – I’ve never been in that part of the country but hopefully one day! Enjoy your new books.

  7. Hi Naida,

Your cabin by the lake looks amazing and I love the sunset picture you captured. I also love marshmallows anyway, but toasted sounds so good! – Relaxing is what some holidays are all about 🙂

Neither of us are huge sports fans, however we did catch a few odd moments of the Olympics, especially the tennis with Andy Murray and the athletics with Mo Farah. Michael Phelps is of course, a legend and will be a very hard act for anyone else to follow!

I like the diversity of the latest additions to your MM finds, although the ratings for ‘Listen To Me’ haven’t been all that good, so I shall be interested to know what your own view of it is.

Welcome back to normal, whatever that is!!, it is good to catch up with you 🙂

  8. Hi Yvonne. I do love the cabin by the lake and there’s a comfort in revisiting it in the summer. The Olympics were fun to watch this year, although they do come along with some controversy. I enjoy watching the athletes compete and hearing their stories.
Happy reading and happy Monday 🙂
