The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….
Good morning blogland. How is everyone doing? It has been a very cold week in my neck of the woods and we even had a snow day off work mid-week which was a nice little break. We are expecting snow again tomorrow night.
Book-wise, I am almost finished with The Duchess Deal: Girl Meets Duke 1 by Tessa Dare, which is really entertaining. I’m glad I made it my first read of 2018. It is part of a series but I will have to wait till August to get the second book. Tessa Dare has become one of those authors whose books I just expect will be good.
In my mailbox, I received a copy of Earl Interrupted (The Daring Marriages) through NetGalley/Sourcebooks this week. I like this pretty cover.
Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington, knows finding a bride in London will not be easy—not since he has been notoriously dubbed as the “Pirate Earl”. What he didn’t expect was to get abducted—and to have his escape go horribly awry when an innocent lady gets caught in the crossfire.
Amateur physician Emma St. James is on her way to meet her betrothed when she is rescued by an injured gentleman. Despite her shock after discovering he is the Pirate Earl, Emma feels drawn to the man who saved her life….
Oh, and I found my book cover doppleganger. My Name Is Venus Black arrived via AmazonVine. If you want to know what I look like, this is it. When hubby and my daughter saw this book they both agreed it looks like me…lol. Down to the aviator sunglasses. Oh my gosh too funny. I might have to take a book selfie with this one. I’ll probably read this next.
In this riveting, heartfelt debut, a young woman assumes a new name to escape her dark past and find the redemption she desperately seeks.
Yarn also arrived at home this past week. A favorite craft store has its “yarn-normous” sale going on and it has been so hard to resist. The deals are too good. I have to say I controlled myself only because I went with my daughter and she was the voice of reason. I got six skeins of Red Heart Neon Stripes. I’ll be using these to color pool a blanket once I’m finished with my current project.

As far as TV programs go, I finally jumped on the Amazon Prime bandwagon this past November and now I have Prime Video has been nice. I enjoy reading/watching anything Tudor related, especially anything about Henry VIII and his wives and daughters. So I’ve watched Six Wives of Henry VIII which was very good. I also watched Elizabeth I a 2 part mini-series with Helen Mirren playing the queen, and it was interesting with a great cast. I started up Inside The Tower of London: Crimes, Conspiracies, Confessions but stopped after episode 3, I felt like that is all that was needed, then it just started to get a bit all over the place. This one is mainly about famous tower prisoners and attempts at escaping and torture that went on there in order to get prisoners to “confess”.
Speaking of the Tudors, here is a photo of Henry VIII‘s suit of armor that I saw when I visited the Met last year. The museum has an impressive suit of arms and armor section.
And last but not least, we went to a favorite Japanese Hibachi Steak House on New Years Eve Eve and it was delicious. The food was great and so were the Mai Tai’s.
That’s all for now, what are you reading? Watching? Enjoy your week and stay warm.

disclaimer: The photos in this post are my own and not to be removed from here.
It is also very cold on Long Island. The wind is brutal.
That is an impressive suit of armour! It is amazing that people fought in those things.
The book cover doppelgänger thing is neat!
Have a happy Sunday!

Hi Brian. It is hard to imagine that people wore those armors let alone fought in them. They are heavy too. Enjoy your Sunday and stay warm!

I love the yarn that you bought on sale too. I bet that’s going to be a beautiful blanket.
Hope you have a wonderful week!

Hi Naida,
I never really know how much to chat away in reponse to your lovely posts, as once I start, it is quite difficult to stop – You’ll just have to let me know if I am going on too much, I won’t be offended 🙂
The weather here has been nowhere near as bad as your own, although the winds are bitingly cold and keeping the temperatures near to freezing. Not so our cricket team however, who are sweltering in the Sydney, Australia record temperatures of 47.3 C (117F) and will no doubt use that as an excuse as to why they have been thrashed so decisively in the Ashes Test Series! Mind you, I know darn well where I would rather be right now, so I am not going to complain any more about needing to turn the heating up.
We spent New Year’s Eve with family, although we were back home and putting the key in the front door just as Big Ben struck 12 midnight. We don’t have too many Japanese restaurants near to us, although hubbie does enjoy a good steak if we eat out and so do I for that matter. We only tend to go for Fillet steak because it is generally the most tender and it comes in smaller sizes than many of the other cuts. We received several meal vouchers as Christmas gifts, so we will be eating out Italian for quite some time, which is fine by me, as I do enjoy a good penne pasta dish.
We have watched very little TV over the past month or so and to be honest I haven’t missed it at all. We generally have to watch the mandatory Disney film when we visit my brother and his family at Christmas and this year was no exception. We ended up by choosing the 2017 film version of Beauty and the Beast and despite the many uncomplimentary comments about it on IMDb, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We have see the stage show several times in this country and of course the Disney stage show version in the Florida theme parks, and this was every bit as enjoyable.
Your knitting wool looks so good and I look forward to seeing you work with it. I went through to the web link and to be honest the price isn’t too bad either. We have some very expensive wool and craft shops over here, but there is one budget chain called ‘Shaws’, where you can buy a double knitting wool for £1 for 100gms, which is about half of the quoted price for the wool you bought. They don’t do such quite amazing colours however, although their choice isn’t bad and there are a few random mix selections thrown in as well. As I generally knit for charity these days, I tend to steer well clear of the ‘designer’ wools and Shaw’s quality is very good for the price.
I am every bit as addicted to knitting wool and jigsaw puzzles as I am to books, but I have been told that 2018 has to be my year of change and using up what I have stored in cupboards all over the place!
I also noticed your amazing nails. How do you keep them from breaking, mine wouldn’t last 2 minutes. We have a couple of nail bars near to where I work, but I just know that it would be a complete waste of money, unless I put a stop to doing any of the household chores and I can’t see that happening!!
Have a great reading week. I am busy reading an excellent psychological thriller called ‘Falling’ by Emma Kavanagh, which is really good and which I shall be featuring in this week’s “Teaser Tuesday” post.
Stay Warm 🙂 🙂

Hi Yvonne, lol I like your thoughtful and interesting comments! Oh wow, it is at the other end of the spectrum then in Australia weather-wise. I would rather the heat, the cold leaves me feeling like I don’t want to leave my bed. Especially early mornings.
I like the Hibachi steakhouse and get the filet mignon when we go, it is nice and soft. Enjoy those meals! I like Italian food too.
I watched the latest Beauty and the Beast and thought it was good as well. It is a nice story, one of my favorite Disney ones. The shows at the Florida theme parks are wonderful to see, they always make it so nice.
I like the yarn I bought too, the link I listed isn’t the sale price since I linked the actual brand site instead of the yarn store where I got it, it’s about 2 skeins for the price of one now with the sale. That’s good when you can get a good sale for nice yarn. Your Shaws shop sounds good.
I am really going to try and organize my craft closet and use up what I have before buying more. It’s like with books, I need tor read what I already have before buying more. I am going to try and organize my shelves as well and donate a bunch to the library. My library only takes donations at certain times of the year so I need to check out the site and see when.
Thank you, those nails are my daughters, she was holding the yarn. They are acrylic tips and she goes every two weeks to get them touched up and refilled. I used to go too, but I don’t bother anymore. And like you mention, with housework you have to make sure you wear rubber gloves so they don’t get ruined. Sometimes I am tempted to get mine done again, but also with typing at the computer at work all day, they’d get in the way too. I just grow my natural nails and paint them myself these days.
I looked up Falling on Goodreads and it looks good. Enjoy it and have a good week 🙂

A snow day sounds nice. We’re expecting rain the next couple days, but we’ll see if the predictions are right. I won’t be able to stay home inside though–those are always the best rain days . . . I hope you stay safe and warm! I can’t imagine being in such cold temperatures.
Your new books sound really good and I’m glad you are enjoying your first read of the year! Have a great week, Naida!

I love anything Tudor related too!! I’m going to have to check out those shows you mentioned. I thought I had seen the Six Wives one, but it must have been something else. Pretty cool that you saw Henry VIII’s armor!!

Got to love the Tudors! That time period fascinates me and it was really cool to see Henry VIIIs armor, and it looked large and so heavy. It was made for him after he gained the weight, into this later years. Enjoy your week!
