Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday: Books, chatting and crocheting

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Man, it has been a hectic week. And a cold one. We had a snow/ice storm on Tuesday which had us leaving work 2 hours early that afternoon due to the bad weather conditions. When I got to the parking lot to clean my car off, it was covered in a thick  sheet of ice that kind of just slid off. It has been raining pretty heavily all weekend and I am craving some sun and warmth. I’ve also been watching the Winter Olympics with my daughter which is always fun. Last night the snowboarding events and the figure skating were especially exciting.

In Louisiana Catch, a grieving daughter and abuse survivor must summon the courage to run a feminist conference, trust a man she meets over the internet, and escape a catfishing stalker to find her power.

Louisiana Catch by Sweta Srivastava Vikram arrived via Poetic Book Tours. I’ll be posting my thoughts on it on March 22nd as part of the blog tour. It looks good!

I am currently reading Idyll Fears: A Thomas Lynch Novel by Stephanie Gayle which is intriguing so far. It involves a small town disappearance case and a cop who in the midst of everything is being harassed by some of the townspeople for being gay.

I posted my thoughts on Survive the Night (Rocky Mountain K9 Unit #3) by Katie Ruggle this past week. It was good overall but I did have a few qualms.

Crocheting:

Hearts and a few other things. I think I’ll make a garland or some type of wall hanging with these.

Please stop by this upcoming week when I list my favorite complicated love stories like Wuthering Heights and Gone With the Wind for Top Ten Tuesday.

I will be reviewing:

Crochet Kaleidoscope: Shifting Shapes and Shades Across 100 Motifs by Sandra Eng this week as well.

That about covers it for now, what are you up to this week?

  1. ‘Idyll Fears’ is definitely on my ‘Want To Read’ shelf, whilst I am going to reserve judgement on ‘Louisiana Catch’ for a while, although it does sound quite intense and intriguing and is definitely an ‘on trend’ topic right now!

Hubbie isn’t very much of a sporty viewer, so I will probably only be able to snatch the odd moment or two to watch anything, although I do enjoy all the winter sports. I guess that ice hockey would probably be my least favourite and ice skating my first choice.

I love the crochet motif book and the hearts you have made, although I tend to steer well clear of them myself, be they crocheted or knitted, as joining them together has to be the most soul destroying task ever. I always make my Afghan throws in one large piece, so that at least when they are large enough, I know they are also finished and I can move on!

Thanks for sharing your week and enjoy the rest of your Sunday 🙂

    • Idyll Fears is a good one and I’m glad I chose it through AmazonVine. Louisiana Catch sounds good as well and yes, that topic is relevant today.
The figure skaters are so graceful, I enjoy watching. The crochet motif book is really a good one, I like it.
I worked on those hearts here and there for a few weeks while watching tv. I like sewing them together and stuffing them up too, I enjoy crocheting toys though so I am used to doing it. I know what you mean, weaving in ends is so bleh, I try to weave them in as I crochet so I don’t have to do it all later. Enjoy your weekend too 🙂

  2. I was at a birthday party last night so I only caught snippets of the Olympics since it was playing at the brewery we were at. Figure skating is my favorite of the Winter Olympic sports.

  3. The snowboarding WAS great last night, so fun to watch. The skating too. And I’m very ready for winter to be over.

    Idyll Fear sounds great!

  4. The last few months have been crazy weather here, what with hurricanes, ice storms, and snow days. This is not typical weather along the Texas gulf coast!

Hope you love your reading this week.

  5. It has also been raining here on Long Island. I am just happy that it is not snow. I was at work during all of the ice storm, but I also had to chisel off my car.

You are reading some interesting looking books. Lousisna Catch sounds different.

  6. I’ve been watching the Olympics as well. The ice skating is usually my favorite, but I enjoyed the snowboarding too. The skill of the athletes is always so amazing.

Oooh, I love when you share photos of what you have been crocheting. Those hearts are just lovely!

  7. Happy Sunday, Naida! Your crocheted hearts are too cute for words! The best thing about a cold winter is being inside where it’s warm and cozy. I look forward to reading your thoughts about Louisiana Catch. Have a terrific week!

  8. The Olympics is not my thing, I am loving the snow although it was only light smattering here. I have bought a few wee balls of wools and need to watch some tutorals, not sure I want to try knitting or crochet? What do you think is easier?

Hope you are getting use of your wee bookmark? Did I get the right house for you? xxx

  9. I love your crochet hearts! So cute. We have not been watching any of the olympics and I’m kind of bummed out I’ve missed the ice skating part in particular. I used to never miss those. Enjoy your new reads!

  10. The hearts are fun. Crocheting amigurumi is the most fun for me. One time I asked a designer to create an eel pattern so I could make it for my nephew. I used Knit Picks Chroma Worsted and Cascade 220 Superwash with a G/4.0 mm hook.
