Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 7/1/18: Hello July, Yarn, Margaritas, Etc.

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

July is my favorite summer month because summer is in full swing. I have more energy during this time of the year and with the longer days I feel like I still have time after work to enjoy the day. I am so NOT a winter person, the cold and dreary weather is just ugh and zaps me of my energy and the pretty snowfalls get old real quick. We are in the middle of a heat wave here these few days with the temps expected to hit 100 today and I am keeping cool inside with the air conditioning. And with July 4th this Wednesday it makes it a shorter four-day work week so it will be nice to have a mid-week break.

Reading-wise, I swear reviews are coming soon. I aimed to finish up Eight Goodbyes by Christine Brae earlier this past week but it didn’t happen. I did finish reading it yesterday though so I will have my thoughts up this week.

Up next will be The Haunting of Mount Cod: A Laura Boxford Mystery by Nicky Stratton for a July post as well.

In My Mailbox:

An ARC of Love, Faith and a Pair of Pants by Herb Freed arrived via Meryl Moss Media. It is a collection of five short stories and looks interesting.

Also to arrive this week was yarn. I started my weekend of with a trip to the yarn store Friday evening. I was good, I controlled myself and just bought two skeins that were on sale.

I grabbed two balls of Super Saver Ombré in Spearmint which is delicious to look at and touch. I went to the store looking for the new RedHeart yarn that is made especially for color pooling  but they don’t carry it yet. Between the yarn and the free patterns, RedHeart is definitely a favorite. I have already been thinking about what crochet project and which book to bring along on vacation with me. My Aunt’s star blanket is finished and will be in the mail this week.

Watching:
We rented Get Out this past week. It was good and definitely a film you can discuss afterwards since there is a crazy plot twist.

Last but not least, we had Mexican food and margaritas last night with my SIL and her husband and it was a great evening. Hmmm the frozen margaritas at this place are my favorite and having good company and conversation is wonderful. I like to order the sizzling steak fajitas and they don’t disappoint.

  1. I must admit that I am very much a spring, autumn, winter person. It is not that I don’t enjoy a bit of sunshine, but I only enjoy it for a few minutes, unless the temperatures are quite modest. Anything which is intense enough to have me reaching for the sun screen just isn’t good, and I am not really a fan of extra daylight hours in the evenings, although the lighter mornings are good!

I wouldn’t have been able to resist buying more yarn than you did, you were really very restrained and what you did choose to buy was lovely and will make something nice I’m sure. Our wool over here generally comes in 100gms balls rather than skeins, so how much yarn typically is in one of your skeins?

I tend to avoid craft and hobby shops in much the same way as I do book shops, unless I know I have some cash to spend, as window shopping is just too tempting and not very fulfilling.

We haven’t watched any television this week, apart from England’s World Cup game on Thursday evening, so I have quite a few programmes recorded to catch up on and I know that Dave has filled up most of the available data space with films he just can’t live without watching!

Enjoy your week and Happy Reading and Blogging 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, lighter mornings are nice too. During the winter I feel like I leave to work in the dark and come home from work in the dark also.

Oh, the yarn is so tempting. I love the ones I bought and want more. That all depends on how much is in a skein, some have one pound of yarn, some smaller amounts. It depends on the brand and the yarn type. The ombre ones I bought are 10 ounces, or 482 yards.

My DVR is usually full of things I want to watch for later too lol or with ones I like to watch again.
      Enjoy your week too!

  2. Oh that food looks so good. Yum! I don’t particularly like the winter, but these hot and humid temps are killing me.

Hope you have a great week. My Sunday post is here.

  4. Ooh steak fajitas are the BEST. I love Mexican! And yes July is awesome, love the long days and sunshine- although not a huge fan of 90’s. Wish it would stay in the 70’s or even low 80’s and I’d be good! 🙂

    Have a great 4th!!

  5. Happy Sunday, Naida! Thanks for this fun Suanday. Monday post. I’m getting to my blogging late as we were away in Las Vegas for a few days for a Kiwanis conference. It was hot in Vegas but we were indoors most of the time, so it didn’t even matter. Like you, July means summer, and I enjoy it. I’m also a fan of Mexican food. We’re lucky to have many good Mexican restaurants nearby!

The spearmint yarn looks cool and gorgeous. I hope you’ll enjoy your newest ARC.
Have a terrific week, Naida! 🙂

  6. I do love the longer days because it it still light out when I leave the office late. I am glad I am not out in the heat as it wears me down.
The spearmint yarn does look lovely.
I am interested in your upcoming review.
Ole’ to Mexican food – yum!
    Meanwhile Happy Reading!

  7. I prefer the heat to the cold as well, although I much prefer to be indoors where it’s cool during the summer. Seems a bit of a contradiction, I suppose. 🙂 I think you’ve put me in the mood for Mexican food. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Mmm! I have to find a good, Mexican place around here. I love the fall and winter as you can imagine with me being a knitter. The second to last time I went to Michael’s I bought several skeins of Lionbrand Thick & Quick b/c I plan to knit a unicorn hat/scarf for my niece for her December birthday. I used a 30% off regular price coupon.

    • Hmmm Mexican food is very good. Fall is a nice time of year. That sounds like a great deal at Michael’s for the yarn, that thick and quick is so nice and soft. Happy knitting!
