Really Random Tuesday: Tudor Obsessed, Otis and Crochet

Here’s my randomness…

Several weeks ago I became somewhat Tudor obsessed as I binge watched the whole series on NetFlix during semester break. The show which follows King Henry VIII’s life from his first wife until his death, was very good. Although they did take some liberties with the timeline as far as deaths and whatnot I really enjoyed it. I snapped the picture above, and if you take a look, you might agree with me that Henry VIII did not look like the actor who plays him Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I didn’t mind and I think Rhys Meyers did a great job portraying the famous monarch. There is nothing wrong in making the king good looking for the show’s sake right?
There is just something fascinating about that era and the way these people lived. There was so much drama and so many hidden agendas at court it really is interesting to think about.

As usual with anything having to do with history, I Googled as I watched and I found Henry VIII’s letters to Anne Boleyn online. Follow this link if you’d like to take a peek: The Project Gutenberg EBook of The Love Letters of Henry VIII to Anne

I was surprised at the tone of the letters and at how at times the king was so sweet and romantic considering the fact that he had Anne charged with treason and incest and eventually had her beheaded.

Reading-wise, one of my favorite authors is Philippa Gregory and I have really enjoyed reading her Tudor books. I know some don’t enjoy her books because she strays from historical facts, but I always find her very entertaining, especially The Other Boleyn Girl.

On another note, while I watched The Tudors I crocheted a blanket. When I posted this on Instagram, I called it my Tudor blanket and I think it will always remind me of the show. I wanted to use up my scrap yarn and thought this would be a great way to do that. I used a pattern for a granny stitch ripple from 100 Colorful Ripple Stitches to Crochet by Leonie Morgan, which is a fantastic pattern book.

As usual, Otis is never far off, especially when I am crocheting. He loves to throw himself on my projects. I think he finds them cozy.
