Mailbox Monday 1/18/16

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Happy Monday everyone. It is nice to be home enjoying the three day holiday weekend. I’ll be curled up most of the day watching Netflix in my pajamas, hopefully crocheting as well. I have gotten good and hooked onto the series Narcos. I always enjoy good crime drama based on true events.

As far as books go, I have gotten two new books in my mailbox recently….

After having read Wolfsangel by Liza Perrat and really enjoying it, I was thrilled when the author offered me a copy of Blood Rose Angel .

1348. A bone-sculpted angel and the woman who wears it––heretic, Devil’s servant, saint.

Midwife Héloïse has always known that her bastard status threatens her standing in the French village of Lucie-sur-Vionne. Yet her midwifery and healing skills have gained the people’s respect, and she has won the heart of the handsome Raoul Stonemason. The future looks hopeful. Until the Black Death sweeps into France.

Terrified that Héloïse will bring the pestilence into their cottage, Raoul forbids her to treat its victims. Amidst the grief and hysteria, the villagers searching for a scapegoat, Héloïse must choose: preserve her marriage, or honour the oath she swore on her dead mother’s soul?

Like It’s the First Time by Ava Stone arrived via Netgalley and looks like sweet contemporary romance.

Good guy Jason Cole always tries to do the right thing for everyone – his cancer-ridden mother, his best friend, even his neighbors. But when his first love – Emery Reid returns home for Christmas with a giant ring on her finger, Jason is determined to do the right thing for him. Emery left Wheston to pursue her dreams on the New York stage. A cramped apartment and barely scraping by, her luck changes once she starts dating an up and coming director. But when she returns home for the holidays and sees Jason after all these years, she can’t remember why she ever left home in the first place. Will she take another chance with her fist love or keep her eye on the dreams she’s worked so hard to obtain?

Freefall into Us by Tess Rosa Ruiz came via Netgalley as well and sounds very good. I enjoy reading poetry.

Tess Rosa Ruiz is a powerful new voice on the American literary scene, redolent of Kerouac and Rollins in a battle of words. Freefall into Us is a compelling collection of unique poetry and prose that provides an emotional mosaic of the path of relationships. This is a raw and visceral insight into how women and men desire, need, want and ultimately love each other in the most beautiful, passionate and honest ways. The carefully structured flow of poetry and short stories provides the reader with a constantly challenging and engaging snapshot of humanity, leading them through different stages of desire, sex, lust, obsession and passion in adult relationships.

This Too Shall Pass by Milena Busquets is a LibraryThing Early Reviewers book.

Blanca is forty years old and motherless. Shaken by the unexpected death of the most important person in her life, she suddenly realizes that she has no idea what her future will look like.

To ease her dizzying grief and confusion, Blanca turns to her dearest friends, her closest family, and a change of scenery.

What books have arrived at your doorstep recently? Enjoy your week xo

  2. Hi Naida,

It has been so bitterly cold here today and is forecast to be so for the next couple of days, that staying in curled up in my PJ’s sounds like a brilliant idea …. Ahh, if only!

I love your MM header picture and todays quote by MLK. Unfortunately hubbie is in the lounge watching a documentary filmed in Carolina USA, which focuses on the rise of the KKK in that state and the hatred it engenders. He is totally speechless right now!

I too, have received a copy of ‘Blood Rose Angel’ from the lovely Liza Perrat. Although the three books in the trilogy can be read as stand alones, Liza did suggest that it might be better to read them in sequence, as ‘Blood Rose Angel’ really does wrap up the series quite nicely, so I need to set aside some time to read the three books back to back!

Best cover art this week has to go to ‘This Too Shall Pass’, it is really eye-catching.

I hope that you enjoy all of your new finds this week 🙂

    Yvonne.

    • Hi Yvonne,
Carolina USA sounds intense, scary and sad, it’s incredible to see events unfold like that. Makes you really wonder about some people and their beliefs.
I enjoy Liza Perrat’s work so I do look forward to this one too.
Enjoy your week and stay warm!
