Sunday Post 9/23/18: Happy Fall, Crochet and the Dreaded Book Slump

sunday (249x249)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Happy Sunday everyone and Happy Fall. With the first day of Fall arriving here yesterday this weekend definitely has that sweater weather vibe to it. A big change from the upper 80’s from last weekend. I took the photo above one October a few years back. There is something to be said about the beautiful colors the Autumn season brings with it.

It has been a nice weekend at home watching movies and crocheting for the most part. I’ve been very lazy since Friday evening and I make zero apologies for it. I am feeling much better and kicked that head cold finally, it lingered for a little while there.

Also, thank you all for always stopping in and reading my posts and leaving thoughtful comments even when I am slow as ever returning visits and comments. I appreciate it.

Onto books….(No mailbox to share this week. I even had to double check, but yea, no book haul. I am slacking.)

But….

The last week of September is Banned Books Week. Will you be reading a banned book this week?

On blogland….

2018
I’m slowly accepting that Fall is here and I signed up for Fraterfest 2018 and I will be reading Rebecca next month. This is a nice time of year for atmospheric and thrilling reads. Are you reading along?

I do have to mention I am in a reading slump right now. I don’t know what it is. I think I’m just mentally tired with work being so busy plus I’ve been watching more tv lately, just to kind of zone out and relax on my free time. I’m hoping to get out of the reading rut soon, especially since cooler weather will have me inside more. I am working on my reviews of Message in a Bottle and Needful Things so those are almost ready but I haven’t picked up anything else since.

Watching:
I’ve still been watching episodes of scary stuff based on real events like A Haunting and Paranormal Survivor . I’ve also started watching the new season of American Horror Story which is good so far. It’s about the apocalypse this season. Yesterday I watched Mother! A.K.A. one of the most confusing and frustrating films I’ve ever seen. I don’t like it when I am confused and lost pretty much the entire duration of a film. When the film was over I still had to google it and I’m still confused. Has anyone seen it? I thought they were all in purgatory at one point.

I re-watched The Possession recently as well which is a favorite scary film, and I feel like it’s one of those movies that isn’t too well known but is very good. It is based on a true story.

Crochet:
Here is my finished poncho that I mentioned last week. I love it. This is chunky yarn from Loops and Threads in Lapiz Lazuli and is really soft and almost squishy. I need to get more of this yarn, I might want to make a blanket with it and wrap myself up in it it’s that cozy.

I worked up two rectangles in HDC and alternated front loop, back loop for texture. Then I sewed the rectangles together to form the poncho itself.

That covers my updates for now. Enjoy your week and tell me what you are doing, reading and watching.  xo

  1. I love the crocheted pieces!

Reading banned books is fun. I’ve realized through this process how, strangely enough, some favorite books have been banned at one time or another.

Enjoy your weekend, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  2. I am so glad fall is finally here and especially glad you are feeling better. I love the fall photo you shared. Our evenings are nice and cool now, but we still need the air conditioner during the day. My allergies have been bothering me some. I keep thinking I’m getting a cold, but fortunately I haven’t yet. Something is going around the office though. I hope you are able to get back into reading. I was slumping a bit for awhile there, but seem to be managing okay now. Have a great week, Naida!

  3. I am really sorry to see summer go. However I am looking forward to some of the good things about fall.

I have not been in a reading slump in a while. I used to get into them commonly. I guess the best thing to do is go with the flow and get back into reading when it feels right.

  4. Glad you’re having a nice relaxing weekend! Those are the best kind sometimes. And yay for FraterFest. I joined too and I’m looking forward to some spooky reading! 🙂

  5. I am so pleased that you are feeling better in yourself and it does no harm at all to spend a few days zoning out completely and getting yourself back to full strength. There are some very strange and nasty bugs going around over here right now and working in retail it is very difficult to avoid them, it’s just a case of keeping my fingers crossed – and so far, so good!

I love the colour and texture of the poncho and in the same way as you are suffering with something of a reading slump, in my case just about all of my other hobbies other than reading, are taking something of a hit right now, especialy my jigsaw puzzling and crocheting.

As the things we do outside work are meant to give us pleasure and enjoyment, we shouldn’t be beating ourselves up when we choose to do one thing at the expense of others!

I love ‘Rebecca’ and could read the book over and over. I have also watched just about every television and film adaptation of the story, so I hope that you enjoy the read, especially if it helps you to get your reading mojo back 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, thank you. Yes, zoning out a little bit can be a good thing to recharge. Enjoy your jigsaw puzzling and crocheting too. I’m still in a reading slump, but I think I will read a light romance to try and get out of it.
Rebecca is one I’ve wanted to read for a while. I’ve heard only good things about it. I haven’t watched any film versions because I want to read the book first.

Enjoy your weekend and thanks for stopping in 🙂

    • Thanks lady. Yes, AHS can get a little bit too much as the season goes on, but hopefully this one will be really good. My fav was the first season and the one with the hotel.

  6. Never seen The Possession but is that JDM? Been a fan since his season (season 1) as the father on Supernatural (though I’d be happy to be done with his character on The Walking Dead). I haven’t seen Mother but I’ve seen some reviews and breakdowns of it and…I’ll wait.

  7. Happy Fall! Thank you for the great post and photos! I adore your crochet work. I have been so busy that my own reading has been quite limited. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and the week ahead!
