Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 2/4/18: Gameday and Book Updates

sunday (249x249)mm

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Happy Sunday everyone. First off, I am glad January has come and gone, it always feels like such a long, cold month. We still have February through April though and I am already longing for Spring. It is a chilly, dreary day here, one perfect for lounging in my pj’s and getting caught up on blog-land.

It’s game day. We usually host a get-together at our house, but this year my sister-in-law is hosting it so *yay*. All we have to do is show up, eat, enjoy and go home…lol. Everyone brings something to eat, mostly finger foods, hors d’oeuvres and chips, etc. and we all stuff our faces.

I mainly watch for the commercials and it is tradition for us to do a get-together so it’s always fun. This is the first time in about seven years that we aren’t hosting the party ourselves, but the people who would come to our place will just go to her place instead so it’s the same group of friends and family.

Bookwise, I managed to read 3 full books in January and just about finished a 4th, but I finished that one yesterday. I’m doing good with my reading flow so I hope to continue that and reach my 50 books goal for 2018.

In my mailbox and my next read:

Idyll Fears: A Thomas Lynch Novel by Stephanie Gayle arrived this week via AmazonVine. I’m going to dive right into this one, it sounds thrilling.

Also in the mail was this nice surprise from my blogging friend from across the pond Lainy.  I crocheted her a butterfly bookmark and she sent me a package of goodies. The little journal says “Never Let Anyone Dull Your Sparkle” . Perfectly said. And a Slytherin bookmark (my official HP house) and how did you know I needed a nail file Lainy? Thank you! xo

Spinster: Making a Life of One’s Own by Kate Bolick was pretty fantastic. I posted my thoughts on it yesterday.

Recently finished reading/review to come soon:

I finished reading Survive the Night (Rocky Mountain K9 Unit) by Katie Ruggle. I enjoyed this one but did have a few issues with it. I’ll post my thoughts on it soon.

Upcoming post this week:

Top Ten Tuesday February 6: Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest and I Still Haven’t Read. I’ll be listing a few books that have been on Mt. TBR for years like Jane Eyre and Revolutionary Road.

Watching:
I watched Dave Chappelle on Netflix this weekend and he is hilarious while speaking on some important current issues. It’s nice to see him back again. I especially liked “Equanimity”.

That covers my updates this week. What are you reading/watching? Enjoy your Sunday! Are you watching the big game?

  1. I think I’ve only watched a football game once… and that was a couple years ago. My husband’s friend came over and he had some sort of score card that depending on how the game went at certain times, you may or may not win money based on what you predicted. I had no clue what was going on though. LoL

  2. I haven’t watched Superbowl in years…my favorite parts were the snacks. LOL

Today I’ll have my eye on the game, because my favorite show is coming afterwards…This Is Us.

Enjoy your week…I like the look of Spinster.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  4. I’m glad to hear that your reading year is off to such a great start! We just made snacks here and honestly I’ll probably fall asleep before the game is over but I’m still looking forward to it anyways. LOL! I love your puppy in his jersey – that is just so adorable. Have a great week and happy reading Naida!

  5. I hate to wish my life away, but I am also glad that January is almost over and we are closer to winter’s end. I only finished two books this month but I have been reading some long books. Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

  6. Looks like Otis is ready for the game! So cute. We don’t watch the game and will probably take advantage of everyone tuned to their tvs while we go do some grocery shopping. Haha… What a sweet gift from your friend. and, what are you knitting with that pretty blue yarn?

    • That’s good to get some shopping in while mostly everyone is watching the game…lol. I’m in the middle of projects actually, I figured I’d pose the book with random blue yarn though. Enjoy your week!

  8. We are usually invited to one of our friend’s house for the Superbowl. I don’t watch the game but I do like to see the half time show and the commercials and to get together with friends. It’s cold, snowy and deep winter here too! Enjoy your reading week!

  9. Hope you enjoyed the game – even if it looks like your fav team wasn’t in it. Puppy is so cute.
Glad your reading is going well. Idyll Fears sounds interesting and how nice to get a package from a friend.

  10. We didn’t go to a party this year. Hubby watched on one tv and I was in another room with the game muted while I read, haha. Sounds like it was an exciting game. You’ll meet your reading goal, no problem. So many good book out lately.

  11. We didn’t do a Super Bowl party this year. None our friends was interested enough in the game, so it was just the three of us. We still had football food though.

  12. We did up in the city at my mum’s. I watched the game from halftime to the end while oinkin’ out. Our crew got back late last night so we’re sluggish today. You did some great reading this week. I’ll try to work on my book post later.

  13. In our family, it is my brother and his family who are into American Footlball and who generally stay up for most of the night to watch the Superbowl live, so long as they all have a holiday from work on the Monday! I haven’t spoken to them since the game, but I am certain they will have all got together to watch it.

‘Idyll Fears’ sounds really good and I loved your review of ‘Spinster’, even though it probably isn’t one for me.

Swapping gifts with fellow bloggers is also a neat thing to do, it is just like having a penfriend online.

Thanks for sharing your lovely week 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne, thanks for stopping in and catching up. It’s fun watching the game, and Monday off is a plus! We were home late Sunday night and it was pouring rain, and on Monday morning I was dragging myself into work. It was funny because alot of us at work were talking about the game and what we all did etc, and everyone was tired and waiting till the workday was over.
Idyll Fears is very good so far and I am enjoying it. Have a great weekend!

  14. I hope you are able to enjoy some warm weather soon. It has been very spring like here. I am looking forward to cooler temperatures and possibly rain this coming week. We definitely need it. There’s hardly any snow on the mountains near here. It sounds like you had a good weekend. We have no interest in the Super Bowl at our house, and so it was a typical Sunday for us. I hope you have had a good reading week! Looks like you got some great mail! Enjoy your weekend and have a great week!

    • Thanks Wendy, it’s been freezing and we had an icy storm hit this week. I cannot wait for the summer and have already envisioned myself at the beach enjoying the sun and soaking it all in. Enjoy your weekend too!
