Sunday Post/Mailbox Monday 9/6/2020: Spooky Reads, Otis, Etc.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog…
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists….

Good morning and happy Monday. Hmph WordPress editor finally forced the upgrade on me and it sucks. It took me a while to even figure out how to write up this post. Why is everything inside of blocks? I’m sorry if this post looks a little off today until I get the hang of the new editor. I have no idea how to size the images. I know some HTML coding so that helps.
My updates post is a day late, but I’m off today for the 3 day weekend so I figured I’d log on this morning to chat. Another week has come and gone and after a 3rd round of bloodwork I’ve been put on steroid pills for one full month. Yuck! Sorry, I know so far this post is all complaining. Onto the brighter side of things, Fall is coming and I love this time of year. We spent yesterday at the farm upstate NY that we like. We drove up early to be there as soon as they opened and avoided the crowds which was perfect. No apple picking for us this year though, we don’t want to risk being near people like that.

Onto my bookish updates I hope because this new editor thing is no bueno….depending on your browser there should be a link allll the way at the bottom of this post that says Page 2 to continue reading the rest of this post…..it’s all the way down in small print so it’s hard to find (thanks WordPress) underneath the rates, likes, share… etc. or if you’re viewing from your phone it should be easier.

  1. Happy Labor Day.

I cannot believe that summer went so fast.

Changes in blogging interfaces can be a real pain. I had no problem clicking on page 2 but I can see how that might discourage a casual blog reader.

It is good to see that Otis is doing well.

  2. Hi Naida,

I am so jealous! – You won yarn? – It looks amazing, I need to know when you have plans for it, you could make something really pretty with those colours.

WordPress keeps wanting me to update to ‘Gutenberg’, but so far hubbie (my own personal technician – because I am so stupid) has managed to put it off. Mind you, that’s only because he knows that I will need quite a lot of tuition to get to grips with using it!

I haven’t read a Colleen Hoover book for years and I quite like the sound of this one, so adding it to my ‘maybe’ list. Life is all about juggling lists, isn’t it? It makes the figures look better!

Our end of summer long weekend was last week, so now all the children have returned to school for the first time since mid March and we are already seeing new virus spikes and individual schools having to close again!

It looks as though our esteemed leader Boris, has decided that us ‘older’ people should stay cozily locked up indoors throughout the winter, whilst all the young people keep mixing and spreading the virus, so that they build up ‘herd immunity’, so I’ll probably see you all next summer!! 🙂 🙂

Hugs to Otis. Take Care and have a good week 🙂

    Yvonne xx

    • Hi Yvonne, yes I won! I want to write up a pattern for this yarn, I’m thinking for either place-mats or maybe some kind of bag as well. I have 4 skeins so I have a good amount to use. I’ts ribbon yarn so it’s not really for wearables.
Ugh with this upgrade, I kept putting it off until WordPress automatically put it on and now I can’t get the old version back.
I haven’t read colleen Hoover in a while either, she’s good though.

Scary about the virus spiking, the same thing is happening in the Southern States here still. That’s good you can stay home through the winter. I’m not sure about how that herd immunity will work, I’ve looked it up and supposedly it should have happened by now in NYC but didn’t.

      Enjoy your books this week!

  3. I just checked and I can still use the classic editor. Are you sure you can’t? I just can’t wrap my brain around the block format. Not sure what I’ll do if they take the choice away. I guess I’ve reached the point in life where I’m not good with change, lol. I don’t mind the look of the finished product if your post is any indication, so no worries there. Beautiful pic of flowers!
Thanks for mentioning there was a page 2 (first time I’ve noticed that!). I hope you enjoy your reading this week and I hope the steroids help.

    • Hi, I checked a few times and googled how to go back but I don’t see those options anywhere in the editor screens. 😦
Thanks, I’m just irritated with the page 2 link, it’s so tiny.
Enjoy your reading this week too! 🙂

  4. I was thinking i don’t see any difference except I might have missed page 2 if you hadn’t mentioned that. What pretty yarn you won! Can’t wait to see what you make with that. And, looking forward to what you think of the Colleen Hoover book. I finally read one of her books this year and did like it a lot. Hope you have a great week!

    • Ugh the page 2 link is too tiny, I may have to shorten my posts and keep the full thing on the one page from now on then.
Yes, I won that yarn! I think I’ll make table place-mats or some type of bag with it.
Have a great week ahead too 🙂

  5. Sorry to hear about the editor. Seems like both WordPress and Blogger are irritating their users with these new editors or versions! I’ve had issues too. Hope your three day weekend is going well though.

    Beautiful pic!

  6. Yay! yarn. That looks different. It’s looks like fettuccini noodle shape. Have fun with it. Yes, I agree regarding the clarity you mentioned in Snow Leopard. While the focus is on the quest there is a lot of introspection in the in between times. I wouldn’t want to do the trip with children in my life either.

  7. Seems like change is all the rage at the moment, I know I’m suffering the new, emm, improved(??) format that Blogger have foisted upon us.

How many times have I watched The Mist without realising it was based on a Stephen King book? An author I had a love affair with throughout my late teens/early twenties, that I never came across the book is quite impressive.

  8. Blogger is shifting to a new editor also. I tried it a few weeks ago and all it did was run the whole post together! Ugh! I’ve gone back to the old format to use as long as I can. Eventually, I will have to figure it out the new format and why it runs together.

I love your picture with fall colors. And Otis of course.
Congrats on the yarn win. That is pretty cool.
I a putting together my October reading. I might join Fraterfest…I just haven’t decided for sure yet. I didn’t know about RIP but might check that out too.
I hope the medicine brings some relief.
Have a good week and Happy Reading!

    • Hi, I held onto the old format until the upgrade was forced on me. Thank you, the yarn win was a nice surprise!
Fraterfest and RIP are both fun ones. Happy reading this week!

  9. Yay for the yarn win. Don’t worry I’d be complaining too. I’m not looking forward to the editor change and I’m waiting as long as possible. I have a bunch of plugins and I’m not sure how they will be affected either. I had some computer issues so I’m behind on visiting anyway.

I love the new weather. We’ve turned the corner and are into the 80s and even 70s instead of the 90s.
